Chapter 93: Chapter 93: Credit Union Loan
The three brothers followed Jiang Dahai to the town’s credit union.
The moment they walked in, they saw Jiang Moli standing at the counter, looking as if she had been waiting for them for some time.
Ruan Fuguo hurried over. "Moli, your dad said the money is all ready?"
"Not so fast. You brought your household registration books, right?"
Ruan Fuguo nodded, handing his own, Ruan Fuqiang’s, and Ruan Fushun’s household registration books to Jiang Moli.
"What do you need the household registration books for?"
"They’re for something."
After checking the household registration books and confirming they belonged to the three brothers, Jiang Moli handed them to the clerk behind the counter.
"Manager Song, could you please help my three uncles with the paperwork?"
"Alright."
Manager Song nodded, opened the household registration books, and began filling out the paperwork.
The three brothers were completely baffled. "Moli, what is all this for?"
"Weren’t you in urgent need of money? I’ve arranged loans for you at the credit union. As soon as Manager Song finishes the paperwork, you can collect the cash."
As the three brothers stared in stunned silence, Jiang Moli briskly handed them three pieces of paper.
"In addition to arranging the loans, I’ve also drawn up a repayment plan. You’ll pay back five yuan each month, including principal and interest, and you should be clear in about two or three years. Of course, if you’re able, you can pay it all off early. You’ll save on some of the interest that way."
Looking at the repayment plans, the expressions on the faces of Ruan Fuguo and his brothers were as foul as if they had just eaten shit.
Since they were agricultural loans, the interest wasn’t high. The combined monthly interest for all three loans was less than one yuan.
The problem was that a loan from the credit union had to be repaid.
But if they owed money to the Jiang family, they could take three or five years to pay it back—or never pay it back at all.
In the meantime, Manager Song had already completed the loan paperwork for Ruan Fuguo.
"Here you go, Eldest Uncle. Just sign your name and put down your thumbprint, and the credit union can release the funds to you!"
Staring at the pen and ink pad thrust before him, Ruan Fuguo finally exploded.
"Loan my ass! Jiang Dahai, is this the fine daughter you raised? She’s playing her uncles for fools again and again! Have you forgotten the promise you made to the factory leaders yesterday? Believe it or not, we’ll go to the factory and find them right now!"
Jiang Dahai was at a loss for words.
He himself had only found out that his daughter was arranging loans for the three brothers after he’d arrived in town and been led into the credit union.
Jiang Moli smirked. "No need to go to all that trouble, Eldest Uncle. Factory Director Yang’s secretary is right here. He’s in town today to act as a witness on the Factory Director’s behalf."
Ruan Fuguo glared at Xiao Jun, who was standing beside Jiang Dahai.
Xiao Jun’s scalp prickled with anxiety. He wasn’t the factory director’s secretary, just a clerk from the main office.
However, Yang Zhigang had indeed sent him over to be a witness.
"Eldest Uncle, I promised I would lend you the money yesterday. And look, haven’t I fulfilled that promise? Just sign, and you can get the money right away."
Ruan Fuguo’s face was red and the veins on his neck bulged with anger. "You were the one who promised to lend us money, so it should be your money! Why are you involving the credit union?"
"It’s all borrowed money. What difference does it make who you borrow it from? As long as you get it, that’s all that matters, right?"
’Of course there’s a difference.’
’A huge one, at that!’
’Money from the credit union has to be paid back—with interest.’
Jiang Moli didn’t waste any more words. "Uncles, I’ve secured the money for you. If you want it, sign the papers. Whether you take it or not is up to you. Either way, I’ve fulfilled my promise. I have other business to attend to, so I’ll be on my way."
With that, Jiang Moli motioned to Jiang Dahai and Xiao Jun, and they left the credit union.
"So are you taking the loan or not? There are other people waiting in line behind you."
Urged on by the loan officer, Ruan Fuguo had no choice but to grimly sign his name and press his thumbprint onto the loan application.
’If they don’t bring the money back today, the village gossip will drown them!’
’That bitch Jiang Moli played them again!’
...
Outside the credit union, Jiang Moli noticed Jiang Dahai’s wooden expression and sidled up to him. "I’d better stand closer to you. It’s cooler over here."
Seeing the baffled looks on both Jiang Dahai and Xiao Jun’s faces, Jiang Moli pointed to her father. "Look at my dad’s face. It’s colder than a block of ice."
Jiang Dahai huffed. "It is pretty cool, because that joke of yours was ice-cold."
Jiang Moli cackled. "I never realized you had a sense of humor."
Jiang Dahai shot her a look, then glanced back at the credit union’s sign. "You’re really something else," he said. "Arranging loans for your uncles."
Jiang Moli replied, "They needed money urgently, and I helped them solve their problem. They should be thanking me."
Credit unions don’t just hand out loans to anyone.
They consider your background and assets, and the loan amount for an ordinary farming household typically doesn’t exceed 100 yuan.
Jiang Moli had deposited the money that her relatives repaid into a three-year fixed-term account at the credit union, which earned her 1.6 yuan in interest each month.
She then used that certificate of deposit as collateral for her three uncles, which was the only reason the credit union agreed to give them the loans.
She wasn’t worried about her uncles defaulting, either.
’If they don’t have the money to pay it back, they can use their grain to cover the debt.’
...
At the entrance to the town bus station, Jiang Dashan had been waiting for ages, his dark, weathered face glistening in the sun.
When he saw Jiang Moli and Jiang Dahai heading his way, he hurried forward to meet them.
"Dahai, Moli."
"Big Brother, what are you doing here? Did you need to see me about something?"
Jiang Dashan glanced at Xiao Jun, hesitating to speak.
Xiao Jun took the hint, making the excuse that he needed to buy a bus ticket and heading into the station.
With the outsider gone, Jiang Dashan no longer had any reservations and told Jiang Dahai about the troubles surrounding their second brother’s wedding.
Jiang Moli summoned her system. ’Help me check what Jiang Dashan and Jiang Dachuan did after Jiang Dahai got injured and lost his job.’
After the sound of rustling pages, the system reported: Jiang Dashan had an affair with a woman from his village. He was caught in the act, and her husband beat him, blinding him in his left eye...
Jiang Moli was stunned.
’No matter how you look at him, Jiang Dashan seems as honest as the day is long. To think he was secretly so wild.’
Jiang Dachuan burned down the granary while smoking and was sentenced to reform through labor on a farm.
’No wonder Jiang Dahai ended up dying alone from his illness. So after he fell on hard times, his two older brothers suffered terrible fates as well.’
’They couldn’t even clean up their own messes, so of course they had no time to worry about their brother, Jiang Dahai.’
’Still, she felt that the incidents involving Jiang Dashan and Jiang Dachuan were a bit suspicious.’
’It looked like they had all been taken down in one fell swoop.’
Jiang Dashan was caught because Zhang Sanmei tipped off the husband. Before Jiang Dachuan burned down the granary, he had been drinking with Zhang Tiesheng.
After hearing the system’s clarification, it all clicked for Jiang Moli.
’Zhang Sanmei and Zhang Tiesheng... one is Jiang Qing’s sister-in-law, the other is her father-in-law.’
’It seemed Jiang Qing really did hate the Jiang family to the bone.’
’To completely ruin Jiang Dahai, she had even plotted against his brothers, Jiang Dashan and Jiang Dachuan.’
’This also served as indirect proof that Jiang Dashan and Jiang Dachuan were genuinely good to their brother, Jiang Dahai.’
’If the two of them had been as cruel and heartless as the Ruan Family, Jiang Qing wouldn’t have bothered targeting them.’
Therefore, when Jiang Dashan bashfully mentioned that he needed to borrow money, Jiang Moli led him directly to the credit union.
Just as they reached the entrance, they ran right into Ruan Fuguo on his way out.
"Did you get the money, Eldest Uncle?"
Ruan Fuguo shot her a cold glare and stalked off with a sullen look on his face.
Ruan Fuqiang and Ruan Fushun, emerging right behind him, didn’t give Jiang Moli a pleasant look, either.
Seeing the attitude of the three Ruan brothers, Jiang Dashan couldn’t help but feel indignant on his own brother’s behalf. "Those three bastards, they’re really shameless. They get their money and suddenly pretend they don’t know you?"
Jiang Dahai said nothing.
Jiang Moli agreed. "Exactly. They’re a perfect example of someone who burns the bridge after crossing it. I was kind enough to help them get loans, and not only will they not treat me to a meal, they won’t even offer a simple thank you."
Jiang Dashan froze. "Loans?"
"You all come to my door asking for money. If I refuse, you call me heartless. But if I agree—well, I’m not a mint. I don’t have that much cash to just lend out. So, I bring you here to the credit union for a loan. You can borrow as much as you need."
As she spoke, Jiang Moli carefully observed Jiang Dashan’s expression.
