Chapter 561 - 463: No One Was Injured

Chapter 561: Chapter 463: No One Was Injured

As the attack began, Shen Xin had already instructed Plane and Wufu to move away from the scene and circle high above.

In an instant, a blinding flash of light erupted below.

The camera feed shook violently.

Even from dozens of meters above the ground, Plane and Wufu were still startled.

And this was with them having already grown accustomed to the city’s endless traffic, which gave them some tolerance for chaos.

The sound of explosions came through the audio feed, loud and clear.

Shen Xin couldn’t help but clench his fists, his body tense with anxiety.

There were no gunshots at first.

Smoke billowed everywhere, obscuring all vision. Firing would have been pointless.

Besides, the goal was to capture Min Juekan alive if possible.

Faintly, he could hear people shouting.

There were the screams of the drug traffickers and the panicked braying of the mules.

And then there were the voices of Qian Feng and his team.

"You’re surrounded! Give up!"

The words echoed through the forest.

Everyone stayed behind cover, not daring to rush forward rashly.

The smoke hadn’t completely cleared. Charging in would be blind. If they fired recklessly, they might not even hit the traffickers, but they could easily hit their own men.

Moreover, in a surprise attack, people’s first instinct is to shoot.

Spraying and praying... who knew where the bullets would go? If someone got unlucky, they’d be dead.

Sure enough, amidst the agonized screams, a gunshot rang out.

It turned out that when the stun grenade detonated, one of the traffickers had doubled over in pain.

His gun was slung at his waist. He was a seasoned fighter; he managed to keep a firm grip on his weapon with one hand while instinctively covering his ears with the other.

In the chaos, he was bumped by something. His vision went black, and relying on pure instinct, he wildly pulled the trigger.

Another pained cry. A few steps away, a mule leaped as if electrocuted and stumbled to the ground.

A trafficker next to him also screamed and collapsed.

The wild spray of bullets had hit him in the ass.

Only then did the shooter realize what had happened. He stopped firing and dropped to the ground.

The world was spinning around him.

He tried to breathe but couldn’t catch his breath. His chest felt as if it had been run over by a car.

Anyone who has experienced the power of a stun grenade once would never want to experience it a second time.

Not far away, the quick-reacting Min Juekan had hit the deck the instant the grenades were thrown.

’I was afraid some idiot would instinctively start firing wildly and hit our own people.’

But at such a close range, even lying flat wasn’t enough. Min Juekan was still dizzy, his ears were ringing, and he was so nauseous he felt like he could die.

「At the same time.」

Behind the cover of trees at least twenty meters away, Qian Feng gave a hand signal, ordering another volley.

Charging was out of the question.

This was an ambush. The encirclement was complete. It was like shooting fish in a barrel.

They would maintain their distance and keep them trapped in the middle. If anyone rushed them, they’d shoot. If they didn’t surrender, they’d just keep throwing grenades.

Throwing grenades was the safest option, after all.

The next moment, a dozen more stun grenades went whistling through the air.

A series of explosions mixed with the traffickers’ screams.

When the smoke cleared, one trafficker, scrambling in a panic, crawled behind a large tree. He fumbled around his body, found a hand grenade, and pulled the pin with trembling hands. Not knowing where his target was, he just threw it behind him.

His hand had just stretched out when a gunshot echoed from a distance.

His arm was pierced by a precise shot. His grip loosened, and the grenade fell a few meters away.

A few seconds later, BOOM! An explosion.

Shrapnel and dirt flew everywhere. A piece of shrapnel hit his exposed foot, making him scream in pain.

One of the traffickers couldn’t take it anymore. He staggered to his feet, turned, and ran.

He had only taken two steps when another BANG from a gunshot sent him tumbling. His legs gave out, and he fell face-first in front of Min Juekan.

Min Juekan remained glued to the ground, ignoring the man. He rolled over and over, trying to find cover.

Just then, a rhythmic burst of gunfire erupted.

It was the machine gun up front, laying down suppressing fire on Qian Feng’s order.

RAT-A-TAT-TAT. The bullets tore into the tree trunks near the group, sending wood chips flying. That was the sound of justice.

"Don’t shoot! We surrender!"

Someone yelled at the top of their lungs, curled up with their head in their hands.

One of the officers responded, ordering them to drop their weapons, stand up, and put their hands on their heads.

Min Juekan cowered by the roots of a tree, frantically pounding his head to try and fight off the vertigo.

It was useless.

The effects of a stun grenade don’t wear off quickly.

He pulled out his pistol and fired a few wild shots in the direction the gunfire had come from.

Ignoring everyone else, he scrambled on all fours toward some tall grass in the distance.

Just as he was about to press forward, a shot rang out. A bullet kicked up dirt and grass right in front of him.

He flinched and immediately dropped flat.

Rolling onto his back, Min Juekan tried to find his target, but he couldn’t see a thing.

The shouts kept echoing in his ears.

"Surrender now or be killed without mercy!"

He felt like they were surrounded, with enemies on all sides.

Some of his men stood up to surrender.

’Death is death, but there’s a difference between dying now and dying later.’

Min Juekan gripped his pistol, clenched his jaw, and rolled away again.

He hadn’t rolled more than a few meters before a voice from ahead shouted for him to stop, threatening to shoot if he didn’t.

His vision still blurry, Min Juekan couldn’t see where the person was. He instinctively fired a wild shot and dropped down again.

After a moment of silence, another stun grenade was thrown in his direction, rolling to a stop right beside him.

’Fuck!’

The thought had barely formed in Min Juekan’s mind when a blinding flash of light went off in front of him.

He howled in agony.

Dazed and disoriented, he didn’t know how much time had passed before he suddenly felt a vicious kick to his head.

The pistol flew from his hand. The next moment, he was pinned firmly to the ground, the sharp ringing in his ears the only thing he could hear.

Qian Feng rushed out with his men.

He was at the very front, rifle at the ready, his eyes warily scanning every target.

If anyone made a suspicious move, he wouldn’t hesitate to shoot them dead.

At a time like this, taking them alive was not the priority.

No one was foolish enough to resist. Everyone was quickly brought under control.

Min Juekan was hauled over.

After being searched, he collapsed to the ground like a boneless heap.

Nine men. Not one escaped.

Four were wounded by gunfire.

Of the five mules, two were shot and injured, while two others were spooked and had run off.

Not a big problem. They could be found.

Qian Feng strode forward and grabbed Min Juekan’s head to get a look at him.

He was panting heavily, his face dirty and scraped.

Tossing him back on the ground, Qian Feng immediately reported the situation to headquarters.

The traffickers were all under control. The target was alive.

All drugs had been seized.

No operational personnel were injured!

「Back with Shen Xin.」

Plane and Wufu were flying high in the air. The audio feed picked up the sounds of gunfire and explosions.

But through the thick canopy of trees, it was impossible to see what was happening on the ground.

In that moment, Shen Xin was burning with anxiety.

Finally, the gunfire subsided.

A short while later, Qian Feng’s voice came over the comms channel.

Upon hearing that the scene was under control, Guo Zhao Yue beside him burst into an ecstatic celebration.

Shen Xin let out a sharp breath of relief, but his fists clenched even tighter as he held his breath.

Only when he heard Qian Feng report that no personnel were injured did he finally unclench his fists and let out an excited roar, releasing all his pent-up tension.

"Fucking awesome!"

Shen Xin shouted excitedly.

More than success or failure, what Shen Xin wanted to hear most was that last sentence: no one was injured.

It wasn’t worth getting hurt for a bunch of filthy rats like these drug traffickers.

He could hear cheers from the headquarters over the comms channel. They must be celebrating the victory.

After a word of praise, headquarters immediately issued new instructions.

The mission wasn’t over yet.

The group on their side of the border still hadn’t been caught.

Headquarters first asked about the condition of the wounded traffickers. After confirming they weren’t in immediate danger of dying, they ordered the team to proceed as planned: one part would stay behind to guard the traffickers and secure the scene.

At the same time, they were to begin interrogating Min Juekan immediately.

The other part of the team, guided by Shen Xin, would rendezvous with support units to arrest the group on their side of the border.

"Shen Xin, good work. That was beautifully done."

In the end, they even praised Shen Xin over the radio.

Shen Xin quickly directed Plane and Wufu to return.

The mission wasn’t over. They couldn’t celebrate prematurely.

However, the group on their side of the border was clearly smaller and had less firepower than Min Juekan’s crew.

It shouldn’t be much of a problem.

「At the ambush site.」

Qian Feng left a detachment to stand guard and immediately set off with the rest of his men.

Huang Delin arrived with his men. After confirming that no one was injured, he breathed a long sigh of relief and immediately arranged for people to find the runaway mules and process the scene.

They opened the packages. Brick after brick of heroin.

Huang Delin silently clenched his fist, then walked over to Min Juekan to begin the interrogation.

"Do you speak Chinese?" Huang Delin stared coldly at Min Juekan.

By now, he had recovered a little.

He stared right back at Huang Delin, a sinister grin on his face.

’It’d be weirder if he just confessed everything obediently.’

Just as he was about to speak again, Huang Delin whipped his head around.

He had caught a movement in his peripheral vision—a trafficker a few steps away had turned his head, as if to avoid his gaze.

Huang Delin stood up and walked over.

"Look up,"

he commanded in a low voice.

The man didn’t react.

A soldier standing nearby immediately stepped forward and forced his head up.

In the light, Huang Delin finally got a clear look at the man’s face.

It was an ordinary face, nothing memorable at first glance.

Huang Delin nodded to the soldier, signaling him to let go, and turned to go back to interrogating Min Juekan.

But just as he was about to crouch down, Huang Delin froze.

He rushed back, grabbed the man’s chin, and lifted his head again.

The man’s gaze was calm, his face devoid of any expression.

"You..."

Huang Delin stared intently at the face. He opened his mouth to speak but stopped.

’That’s not right.’

’I remember that guy being dead.’

"What’s your name?" Huang Delin asked gravely.

The man didn’t speak.

Huang Delin asked another trafficker next to him.

"His name is Dan Wen," the trafficker answered after a moment’s hesitation.

Min Juekan suddenly lunged at him, cursing loudly.

The two were immediately pulled apart.

"Dan Wen?"

Huang Delin stared at the man, his brows furrowed deeply.

’People can look alike,’

’but those eyes...’

Huang Delin felt they were very familiar.
