Chapter 569 - 471: Still Able to Track

Chapter 569: Chapter 471: Still Able to Track

The police station was in shambles.

There were bullet holes and bodies everywhere.

Some were Mianguang police officers, others were civilians who had come to the station on business.

"Be reasonable. Don’t struggle. It’s better for both of us," Fan Liping warned as he saw Ding Yuwei trying to break free.

Ding Yuwei’s voice was heavy. "Fan Liping, what are you trying to do? Why do you want Shen Xin to contact you?"

"If Shen Xin is your target, I’m telling you right now: dream on. I would die before I let you do anything to him."

Fan Liping dragged Ding Yuwei downstairs, saying as they went, "Exactly. This is why."

"I can tell you like him, and you must be very important to him. That’s why I’m sure he’ll contact me."

He didn’t explain further, just dragged Ding Yuwei into a car.

Ding Yuwei’s heart was pounding, but with so many of them, there was nothing she could do. She could only let them drag her into the vehicle.

The car had just started moving when Ding Yuwei saw Wang Feng and the others burst out of the building.

But there was no way they could catch up.

A lump was already forming on Wang Feng’s head, and he stomped his foot in frustration.

The three of them were still handcuffed. Li Niu, desperate, started running after the car on foot.

Wang Feng wanted to chase them too, but his rational mind told him it was useless. He quickly called Li Niu back to find the handcuff key, then they could chase them by car.

Once they found the key, unlocked the cuffs, and located a phone, Wang Feng called Guan Baofeng as he ran.

The phone had been ringing earlier, but he hadn’t been able to answer.

The three men jumped into their car. Li Niu slammed on the gas, and the vehicle shot forward.

Wang Feng finally got through and explained the situation to Guan Baofeng.

Fan Liping’s men had attacked the police station and broken him out.

Most importantly, Fan Liping had taken Ding Yuwei with him.

"What does he mean, ’Have Shen Xin contact him’? What the hell is he playing at!" Guan Baofeng yelled, his voice laced with urgency.

The moment Guan Baofeng’s expression changed, Shen Xin’s heart dropped. He knew something was wrong. The others quickly gathered around.

Guan Baofeng didn’t have time to explain. He just urgently asked if they could catch up to them.

Meanwhile, Li Niu slammed on the brakes. They were at an intersection, and he didn’t know which way to go.

Wang Feng immediately jumped out of the car, grabbed a man standing outside a shop at the intersection, and asked if he’d seen a convoy pass by.

The man, terrified by Wang Feng’s fierce demeanor, quickly shook his head, saying he didn’t know.

After asking a few more people, they finally got a direction.

There wasn’t much traffic, so Li Niu pushed the car to its top speed. But by the time they left the city limits, there was no sign of Fan Liping’s group.

"It’s the only road. Keep going!" Wang Feng’s face was ashen.

He then continued to report everything that was happening to Guan Baofeng.

The call was on speakerphone on Guan Baofeng’s end.

Hearing that Ding Yuwei had been taken by Fan Liping, Shen Xin felt his limbs go numb and his mind went blank with a deafening buzz.

’That girl was always so worried something would happen to me, insisting on staying by my side no matter what.’

’Who would’ve thought? Nothing happened to me, but she’s the one who ended up in trouble.’

"Fuck!"

Shen Xin roared and spun around, sprinting toward a car.

Jiang Wengang rushed over and grabbed Shen Xin in a bear hug, telling him to calm down.

He was from the Tingyang Branch and had worked with Shen Xin for a long time, so he understood the situation.

They had gossiped among themselves that Ding Yuwei definitely had a crush on Shen Xin.

And as for Shen Xin, they figured he probably had feelings for Ding Yuwei, too.

And just as they thought, the moment he heard she was in trouble, his eyes turned red.

"Shen Xin, you won’t make it in time! Calm down!" Jiang Wengang didn’t let go.

It was a three-to-four-hour drive to Luopei Town from here. There was no way he could get back in time.

Shen Xin let out a frustrated roar and told Jiang Wengang to let him go.

"Captain Jiang, I’m calm now."

’Anger won’t solve anything. I have to be calm. I have to.’

When Jiang Wengang let go, Shen Xin quickly ran back and asked Wang Feng over the phone, "Captain Wang, which direction are you heading?"

He then turned to Song Zhi and asked if they could contact nearby police stations to set up roadblocks and intercept Fan Liping’s group.

This sudden development had clearly caught Song Zhi by surprise as well; he was completely shocked.

Guan Baofeng immediately asked for a map.

They had learned from bystanders that Fan Liping’s group was headed north.

Once out of the city, there was only one main highway going north.

Of course, there were forks in the road along the way, leading to different districts and towns.

But since the general direction was north, they could contact the police stations in the northern districts and towns to set up blockades on major routes.

At this point, Song Zhi snapped out of his shock, his expression grim.

He knew there were some areas under his jurisdiction where their control was weak and the situations were complex.

But something this brazen was rare.

While contacting people in the two northern districts, he also called the police headquarters to report the situation and request manpower.

If this were back home, the Skynet system might have already locked onto them.

But here in Mianguang, there were few surveillance cameras even in the urban areas, let alone the suburbs.

Just then, Shen Xin urgently asked about Fan Liping specifically demanding he be the one to make contact, and asked Wang Feng if he had the number.

Wang Feng did.

"And the mole," Shen Xin suddenly said.

At that moment, his mind was a tangled mess and his hands were trembling with worry, yet his thoughts were unusually clear as one idea after another surfaced.

He was thinking of the police officer who’d been their inside man.

"Captain Guan, we can start by confirming his identity. He did something this major; Fan Liping must have promised him a huge reward."

"What about his family? If we find them, we might be able to use him to track Fan Liping."

"Also, he’s one of their men. He must have a phone on him. See if we can reverse-triangulate his phone’s location."

"And then there’s the number Fan Liping left. Captain Guan, I want to call it."

’The bastard specifically told me to contact him, didn’t he? Fine, let’s do it.’

’If he has a problem, he should come after me. Why drag an outsider into this?’

Guan Baofeng shot Shen Xin a surprised glance.

At a moment like this, his own mind was in disarray, and he hadn’t had time to think things through.

He was surprised that Shen Xin’s mind was still working so quickly under the circumstances.

His own thoughts raced.

Guan Baofeng’s first instinct was to trace their location through the phone call.

But then he remembered they weren’t back home. The police here in Mianguang didn’t have that kind of technology.

So tracing Fan Liping through a phone call was likely impossible.

But after a moment of rapid thought, he nodded. "You can call. The sooner we figure out his intentions, the better for us."

As he spoke, he asked Wang Feng if he remembered whether Ding Yuwei had her phone on her.

After entering the country, the team had all switched to local SIM cards.

If she did, they could try contacting the local carrier in Mianguang to locate the phone.

But he felt it was a long shot.

Fan Liping was smart; he would have thought to get rid of the phone.

Over the phone, Wang Feng also suggested an idea: they could check the police station’s surveillance footage for the license plates to investigate the gang.

Not to investigate Fan Liping himself, but his men.

He meant that while Luopei Town didn’t have many cameras, there were some, and they should have captured the license plates.

The attack was so sudden that the gang only had time to take their own men’s bodies with them. They probably didn’t have time to deal with the surveillance footage.

They could have the officers on patrol or on missions outside Luopei Town return to check the footage and canvas the area.

He recalled that Fan Liping had glanced at the time just before the mustached cop made his move.

That must have been the prearranged time to act.

His men must have been lying in wait outside beforehand. Someone must have seen them.

Then he read out the number Fan Liping had left.

It was a satellite phone number.

Shen Xin misdialed twice before getting the number right.

But the line was busy. He couldn’t get through.

He tried again, but it was still busy. "Let’s try Yuwei’s number," Shen Xin said.

So they dialed Ding Yuwei’s cell phone number.

It went straight to a "powered off" message.

Obviously, Fan Liping had gotten rid of Ding Yuwei’s phone.

Now, the only hope was that Wang Feng’s team could catch them, or that the police in the two northern districts could intercept them.

Just as he was thinking this, Wang Feng on the other end of the line came to another fork in the road.

Shen Xin could hear Wang Feng ordering someone to get out of the car and ask for directions.

But they didn’t get any useful information.

He could only gamble on one direction and continue the pursuit.

Shen Xin’s heart sank a little. Logic told him that in this situation, the chances of Wang Feng catching Fan Liping were minuscule.

He hugged his arms tightly, trying to force his mind to calm down.

Shen Xin began to think.

’Two key questions.’

’First, Fan Liping’s objective was clear: he orchestrated this attack because he didn’t want to go to jail.’

’He didn’t harm Wang Feng or the others, which suggests two things. One, he understands the consequences of harming them. Two, he might genuinely not want to harm them.’

’He himself said he still wanted to send them information in the future, that he was still the same person.’

’So, under these circumstances, why did he insist on taking Ding Yuwei?’

’And why did he specifically demand that I contact him?’

’I just met the guy, and we barely exchanged a few words.’

’I need to figure this out. Maybe I’ll have a better idea after the phone call.’

’The second question is how to hunt them down.’

’Fan Liping has lived in Mianguang for many years. He’s trafficked drugs himself, has his own crew—and not a small one—which means he’s very well-established here.’

’He has enough power and his connections are deep and tangled.’

’He had an acquaintance willing to help him escape even after being taken to the police station.’

’So, he definitely has the ability to hide himself now.’

’Therefore, regardless of his demands, pinpointing his location is the absolute priority.’

’I wonder if Angdu would be any help.’

’He might know something about Fan Liping.’

’Also, Fan Liping has cooperated with our side before. Maybe we can find some clues from those past collaborations.’

’But that’s all for later. This just happened, so there’s still a chance to track them.’

’The K-9 unit!’

’Those guys killed people. They’re covered in the scent of blood. Even in a car, with Celestial Skill’s abilities, he can still track them.’

’And the police bird.’

’If we let Teddy and the others loose to search a wide area, there’s no way we won’t find them.’

With this in mind, Shen Xin immediately shared his idea with Guan Baofeng, suggesting that Pan Wenhai bring Celestial Skill and Teddy over.

"Captain Guan, I’m heading back to Luopei now. Have Captain Pan bring Celestial Skill back, get him through an emergency border crossing, and have him meet me directly in Luopei. We can start tracking immediately."

"I think it’ll work. Celestial Skill has that ability."

Guan Baofeng thought for a moment, then nodded. "I’ll contact Director Wan."

He told Wang Feng to continue the pursuit, then hung up and quickly stepped aside to report the situation to Wan Xiaoyang.

Shen Xin also immediately ordered Er Long and the others to return.

He couldn’t worry about what was happening here anymore.

They had already figured out the situation here, and the targets had gone into the mountains. Whether they succeeded or not would depend on the combat effectiveness of those two hundred men.

There was no help he could provide by staying.
