Chapter 576 - 478: Surprise Attack, Rescued

Chapter 576: Chapter 478: Surprise Attack, Rescued

The yard was in utter chaos, all thanks to Nan Ji’s sudden appearance.

Fan Liping instinctively reached for his gun, then saw the elephant charge past a log loader.

The multi-ton log loader was violently shoved aside.

This display of power instantly extinguished any thought Fan Liping had of shooting the elephant dead.

A man who gets shot can still run around for a while, high on adrenaline.

But this was a multi-ton elephant. Unless a bullet struck a vital organ, it would keep rampaging for some time—long enough to go berserk and send him flying like that poor bastard just now.

Besides, with his small handgun and its 9mm bullets, Fan Liping seriously doubted he could kill an elephant.

After all, an elephant’s skin was three centimeters thick, and to support such a massive body, its bones were terrifyingly dense.

In short, when a rampaging elephant is charging at you and all you have is a small handgun, the best choice is to turn tail and run.

Fan Liping scrambled away.

Fortunately, Nan Ji’s attention wasn’t on him. She was heading straight for the warehouse.

With a tremendous CRASH, the warehouse’s metal door was brutally smashed open as if it were made of paper.

With a single glance, Nan Ji saw the white elephant lying on the ground.

And then, she went completely berserk.

There were three men inside the warehouse. Seeing the elephant charge in, they were all scared stiff.

One man fumbled for his gun. Just as he pulled it out, Nan Ji charged at him with a furious roar.

He pulled the trigger, firing blindly, and was immediately sent flying by Nan Ji’s brutal charge.

The impact was no less than being hit by a speeding car.

He was slammed against the wall and left hanging there.

The two remaining men fled in terror, but there was no escape.

Her child lay on the ground, its breathing faint. Only one thought filled Nan Ji’s mind: ’Destroy every living thing in sight.’

She quickly caught up to one of them.

Though elephants look clumsy, a rampaging one is incredibly fast.

The man was knocked to the ground, and Nan Ji trampled him without hesitation.

An elephant can be trained to give people massages, but when it uses its full strength, its feet are as hard as concrete.

The man’s chest cavity seemed to collapse, literally crushed flat.

Only his head remained, still screaming madly.

The last man was petrified, but he grabbed a nearby long hook and tried to throw it at Nan Ji.

Nan Ji roared and charged at him.

A deafening CRASH resounded.

A huge hole was smashed through the wooden warehouse. Amidst flying planks, the man was sent flying who knows how far.

’Still not enough.’

Nan Ji backed away, roaring with grief and fury, then turned and charged out of the warehouse.

She curled her trunk, grabbed a nearby log as thick as a water bucket, and hurled it through the air with a WHOOSH.

Several men rushed out of the two-story building.

They were met with a devastating blow.

Seeing the log flying toward them, they all pissed themselves in terror.

At that moment, Fan Liping was hiding in a first-floor room, watching with his scalp tingling in fear. He yelled to his men outside to get inside the building.

He didn’t even need to warn them; his men were already scattering in all directions.

Some fired their guns, but in their panic, they were just shooting blind.

When they saw Nan Ji charging at them, only one thought was in their minds: ’Run as far away as possible.’

It takes real courage for a human to confront an elephant, the largest land animal on Earth.

Nan Ji turned and chased an employee in the lumber stacking area. Her running was a thunderous RUMBLE, making the very Earth seem to tremble.

Just then, Fan Liping suddenly looked up.

He noticed the drone above the yard, and his heart skipped a beat.

’Where did that drone come from!?’

As he wondered, a glimpse from the corner of his eye caught a team of people in tactical formation, appearing from the direction the elephant had come.

For an instant, Fan Liping’s heart nearly stopped. A thousand thoughts flashed through his mind.

’Where did these people come from?’

’How did they find this place?’

Their steps were steady. One of his men, hiding behind a machine, had already spotted them. He turned and fled in panic, firing wildly behind him as he ran.

Decisive gunfire erupted.

A long burst sent the man pitching to the ground.

The sound of gunfire shocked Fan Liping back to his senses.

His first thought was the hostage.

Gritting his teeth, he gripped his gun and charged out of the room, heading straight for the stairs to the second floor a few meters away.

He did the same thing his man had, turning to fire wildly behind him.

Gunfire erupted from the other side in sync. Something bit hard into his arm, and something else zipped past his body, making his hair stand on end.

Luckily, the stairs were close, and his charge was sudden. Fan Liping rushed up the stairs and disappeared from the sight of Fu River and the others.

Fan Liping ignored the gunshot wound in his arm—he didn’t even feel the pain, thanks to the adrenaline. He yelled for his men upstairs to guard the staircase as he ran straight for his office.

’If I can get control of Ding Yuwei, there’s still hope.’

But when he reached his office, the door was shut tight. He yanked the handle, but it wouldn’t open.

"Fuck!"

Frantic, Fan Liping raised his leg and kicked the door.

In the movies, doors fly open with one kick. In reality, they aren’t so easy to break down.

He kicked it several times. The doorframe warped, but the door remained shut.

Fan Liping was going crazy with anxiety. ’I’m sure I left someone on guard!’

He had indeed left someone, but only one man.

And he had been overconfident, figuring Ding Yuwei couldn’t escape, so he had never handcuffed her.

When he had gone to check on the white elephant, the subordinate he’d left behind paid no attention to Ding Yuwei at all. He just put his gun on the desk and started scrolling through his phone.

They were several meters apart; he wasn’t worried about Ding Yuwei trying anything.

Ding Yuwei hadn’t made a move, either. She knew the outside was crawling with Fan Liping’s men and that she couldn’t escape.

When Nan Ji charged in, causing a huge commotion, the subordinate was startled and immediately grabbed his pistol.

He told Ding Yuwei not to move while peering down through the window to see what was happening.

Seeing an elephant burst in, he was scared witless too.

’Good thing we’re on the second floor. It shouldn’t be a problem.’

The people upstairs were alerted, and this guy even opened the door to go out and ask what was going on.

No one knew. They were all dumbfounded.

They just told him to go back and keep an eye on Ding Yuwei.

He turned to go back and saw Ding Yuwei getting up and walking to the window. He quickly barked at her, gesturing with his gun, telling her to sit back down and behave.

While aiming the gun at Ding Yuwei, he couldn’t resist looking down to see what was happening.

’An elephant, and I get to see it send people flying! What a rare sight!’

The next time he turned his head and leaned out to look, a sharp pain shot through his gun arm.

The pistol fell.

The next moment, Ding Yuwei had grabbed an ashtray and was bringing it down hard on his head from behind.

He instinctively tilted his head, and the ashtray smashed into his shoulder.

The pain was so intense it felt like his bone had broken.

Her first strike having missed its mark, Ding Yuwei ignored the fallen pistol and brought the ashtray crashing down again in the same motion.

This time, she aimed true, smashing it viciously against the man’s forehead.

The glass ashtray shattered on impact.

The man instinctively pitched toward the floor, but Ding Yuwei didn’t stop. She gripped a shard from the broken ashtray and viciously stabbed at his head.

In a life-or-death struggle, there’s no technique, only a desperate fight to survive.

That stab missed, so Ding Yuwei pressed forward, ignoring the size of the glass shard in her hand as she frantically attacked the man’s head with it.

Her opponent still had the strength to resist. He tried to roll over, flailing his elbows backward.

Ding Yuwei grabbed his head with one hand and slammed it brutally against the floor.

She kept on until the man was motionless, his head covered in blood.

Ding Yuwei dropped the shard. It had pierced her opponent, but it had also pierced her own hand.

Ignoring the pain, she took a few ragged breaths and quickly picked up the pistol.

She had recognized Nan Ji at a glance, and her first thought was that Shen Xin had come for her.

’I can’t charge out,’ she thought. ’The yard is full of Fan Liping’s men. Rushing out means death.’

’If I can defend this room, I can survive.’

Ding Yuwei looked around, then hurriedly started pushing a sofa to block the door.

Just as she finished barricading the door, she heard Fan Liping kicking it from the other side.

Without hesitation, Ding Yuwei fired several shots through the door.

A pained cry came from outside.

Fan Liping clutched his stomach and fell to the ground in panic. He scrambled away on all fours, then raised his gun and emptied it wildly at the door.

Behind the door, Ding Yuwei had also thrown herself to the ground. Huddled under the window, she peeked out.

She saw Fu River’s team in formation, and behind them, Shen Xin, gripping a pistol.

A surprised, joyful look on her face, she scanned the area. There was no sign of Fan Liping’s men.

’Fan Liping’s men must be trapped on the second floor,’ she realized.

In a flash of inspiration, Ding Yuwei fired a shot at the glass, then grabbed a nearby chair and smashed the window to pieces.

The chair fell to the ground below.

Fu River instinctively looked up and immediately saw Ding Yuwei flash past the window on the second floor.

"Don’t shoot! She’s one of ours!"

Fu River was quick on his feet; he saw it was a woman, otherwise he would have fired on instinct.

"Can I jump down?" Ding Yuwei shouted.

Shen Xin, who was following behind, heard Ding Yuwei’s voice, and his heart began to pound wildly.

Fu River remained calm. He glanced around and quickly shouted, "Jump!"

Then he gave a hand signal. "Cover!"

The next moment, Ding Yuwei didn’t hesitate. She grabbed the window frame and jumped from the second floor.

She stumbled and fell to the ground.

"Go!"

Fu River yelled, and two team members rushed out under covering fire, dragged Ding Yuwei up, and ran back.

Shen Xin would have charged out himself if Jiang Wengang hadn’t been holding him back tightly.

Seeing Ding Yuwei being dragged back to safety, Fu River gave another order: "Fall back."

The hostage was rescued; there was no need to risk charging up to the second floor. It was better to retreat first and form a perimeter.

The team immediately fell back behind a stack of lumber.

Shen Xin finally broke free from Jiang Wengang’s grasp, rushed forward, and threw his arms around Ding Yuwei.

He held her tightly, as if he would never let go.
