"We must close our borders immediately!" a tall minister shouted. He slammed his fist on the marble desk. "The Black Magicians will target us next! We cannot risk our own safety! We must protect our cities!"

"You are acting like a coward!" another politician yelled back. He pointed a finger across the room. "Bluemoon is our closest ally! We signed trade agreements. We share resources. We cannot just abandon them to the darkness!"

The tall minister shook his head vigorously. "Their capital is completely lost. Sending our troops there is pure suicide. The dark mages use forbidden spells. We need to protect the Belmontia Empire. We must focus entirely on our own defenses."

An older council member stood up slowly. He wore a crisp white suit. He looked very stern and incredibly serious. He adjusted his glasses.

"We are the Belmontia Empire," the older member stated firmly. His voice echoed across the vast chamber. "We are a Great Empire. We possess massive military strength. We have a profound moral duty to intervene in this crisis. If we turn our backs on an allied nation, the world will see us as weak. We will lose all international respect."

The room erupted into more loud shouting. The politicians argued about morality and military budgets. They argued about the massive risks of fighting Black Magicians. The dark mages were incredibly dangerous. They corrupted the land itself.

The Emperor rested his chin on his hand. He listened to the arguments. He knew the situation was extremely critical. The Black Magicians wanted to awaken a world-ending entity. He knew they could not just sit and wait. The Empire had to make a choice.

Meanwhile, the 13th Unit estate was completely peaceful.

The living room was warm and cozy. Sunlight shined through the glass windows. Ken Eliot lay flat on the large, soft sofa. He wore his wrinkled navy blue suit pants. His white shirt hung completely untucked. He did not wear a tie. His black hair stuck out in messy spikes.

He stared at the magical television screen. The screen showed a popular animated show. A spiky-haired protagonist was currently yelling a very long, dramatic speech.

Ken let out a loud yawn. He reached his hand into a large bowl of potato chips. He grabbed a handful. He shoved the chips into his mouth. He chewed happily. Crunch. Crunch. Crunch.

"This pacing is terrible," Ken complained casually. He pointed a lazy finger at the television. "The main character has been charging that energy blast for three entire episodes. It is a complete waste of time. He should just use a shadow clone. Or maybe a substitution jutsu. It is basic combat logic. Why do heroes always drag out the fights?"

Naomi walked into the living room. She carried a tray of cold fruit juice. She wore comfortable gray pants and a simple black shirt. Her red hair was tied back in a neat ponytail. She walked over to the sofa. She smiled a very warm, bright smile.

The story has been taken without consent; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

She set the tray on the coffee table. She handed a glass to Ken.

"Here you go, Ken," Naomi offered gently. She playfully nudged his foot. "Drink some juice. You need vitamins. You cannot just survive on salty snacks all day."

Ken took the glass. He gave her a big, goofy grin. "Thank you, Naomi. You are the best boss lady ever. You totally understand my nutritional needs. But potato chips are very important for my brain function. They fuel my tactical genius."

Naomi chuckled softly. She sat down on the armchair across from him. She crossed her legs. "You are just watching cartoons. You are not using tactical genius."

"I am analyzing different fighting styles," Ken argued lazily. He took a sip of his juice. "I am learning how to avoid fighting altogether. The best way to win a tournament arc is to just sleep through the preliminary rounds. Let the other guys tire themselves out. Then you just grab the trophy and go home."

Laxmi sat on the floor. She tossed a tiny orange spark of fire between her hands. She grinned a wild, excited grin.

"I disagree completely," Laxmi cheered. "The tournament arc is the best part! The hero gets to show off his new fire attacks! I want to learn that ultimate flame breathing technique! I would totally roast all the bad guys in one shot! I would burn the entire arena down!"

Sayma sat at the dining table. She pushed her thick glasses up the bridge of her nose. She held a neat notebook. She looked at Laxmi.

"The flame breathing technique is physically impossible," Sayma stated politely. "I analyzed the show. The lung capacity required to expel fire of that magnitude would incinerate the user's vocal cords. It completely defies basic biology. The show has zero scientific accuracy."

Ken slouched deeper into the sofa. "Sayma, you are applying real-world math to anime logic. You cannot do that. Anime logic operates on the power of friendship and very loud screaming. The louder you scream, the stronger your magic becomes. It is a proven fact."

Ira stood perfectly still near the wall. Her pale face showed zero emotion. "Statistically speaking, screaming during a combat scenario alerts enemies to your exact location. It decreases your survival rate by seventy-five percent. Stealth is a far superior tactic."

Luna slept peacefully on a wooden bench. Risa sat on the rug. She colored a picture with bright pencils. She giggled at Ken's jokes. The atmosphere was incredibly relaxed. They had no idea a massive political crisis was happening in the capital.

Ken popped another chip into his mouth. He felt a sudden, familiar sensation in his mind. It was a telepathic ping. The message came directly from his spymaster, Karna.

Ken closed his eyes for a split second. He received the intelligence report. He learned about the Black Magicians securing the forbidden seed.

Ken opened his eyes. He kept his goofy, lazy expression perfectly intact. He did not show an ounce of panic.

"Well, that is very annoying," Ken thought to himself casually. "The bad guys are making a massive mess again. I really do not want to deal with this right now. But if they awaken a giant world-ending monster, my potato farm dreams are officially ruined. I need to make a phone call."

Ken sat up slowly. He set his juice glass on the table. He grabbed his stomach with both hands. He bent over slightly. He put on a highly exaggerated face of pure discomfort.

"Oh man," Ken groaned loudly. He waved his hand in the air. "I think I ate too many spicy chips. My stomach is doing backflips right now. It feels like a massive rasengan is spinning inside my belly."

Naomi looked at him. She looked slightly worried. "Are you okay, Ken? Do you need Risa to use some healing magic?"

"No, no, I just need a bathroom break," Ken lied smoothly. He stood up and hunched his shoulders. "I will be right back. Do not change the channel. I want to see if the guy finally throws the energy blast. It might happen in the next filler episode."
