Javier continued his grand speech. He uncrossed his arms. He spread his hands wide. He wanted to look like a visionary leader.
"You think you have won," Javier mocked loudly. "You think destroying a few puppets changes anything. But you are entirely wrong. My grand design is already complete. The Neitherworld Devil Flower is blooming in the center of the city. It is absorbing the despair of the citizens. The dark energy is growing. The entire kingdom belongs to me now."
Ken reached into his pocket. He ignored the evil speech completely. He felt around for a snack. He found a small, wrapped piece of strawberry candy. He pulled it out. He unwrapped it very slowly. The plastic wrapper made a soft, crinkling sound.
Javier frowned. He stopped his speech. He stared at the masked boy.
"Are you listening to me?" Javier demanded. His toxic purple eyes narrowed into sharp slits. "I am explaining the absolute end of this kingdom! I am telling you about the new world order! Pay attention to me!"
Ken popped the candy into his mouth. He chewed it slowly. The sweet strawberry flavor spread across his tongue. He did not look at Javier. He looked at the dark sky. He watched a cloud drift past the moon.
"The pacing of this scene is terrible," Ken analyzed casually in his mind. "The villain talks way too much. He just dumps all his plot exposition at once. It is lazy writing. He should just attack. A real boss fight starts with an instant strike. I am going to give this encounter a very low rating on the internet."
Javier felt a massive surge of pure anger. His pale face turned red. He absolutely hated being ignored. He was a high-level dark mage. People usually trembled in fear when he spoke. They begged for mercy. This masked person was treating him like an annoying fly.
"You dare ignore me?!" Javier screamed at the top of his lungs. His voice cracked with intense fury. "I am Javier! I command the shadows! I will rip that stupid mask right off your face!"
Javier raised both of his hands. He chanted a rapid, forbidden spell. The air around him turned freezing cold. The toxic purple fog swirled violently. He channeled an immense amount of dark mana into the ground.
"Living Black Chains!" Javier roared fiercely.
The cobblestone street violently cracked open. Massive, thick chains erupted from the dirt. The chains were made of pure, highly concentrated dark magic. They were pitch black. They pulsed with a sickly purple glow.
But these were not normal metal chains. They were completely alive.
The chains slithered across the street like giant, metallic snakes. They moved with terrifying, fluid speed. At the end of each chain, a jagged, shadowy mouth formed. The mouths had rows of razor-sharp, glowing purple teeth. The chains hissed and snapped. They bit the ground. The stone melted instantly where the dark teeth touched it.

"Kill him!" Javier commanded. He pointed a shaking finger at Ken. "Tear him into pieces! Drink his magic!"
Dozens of Living Black Chains shot across the plaza. They moved like lightning. They aimed directly for Ken’s arms, legs, and neck. They wanted to bind him. They wanted to bite into his skin and drain his power.
Ken watched the chains coming. He did not panic. He did not pull out his dark sword. He just slouched his shoulders under his elegant cloak.
"This is exactly like that one anime with the binding spells," Ken thought to himself. "The villain uses living shadows to trap the hero. It is a very cool visual effect. But dealing with it is incredibly annoying. I do not want those dark teeth biting my nice clothes. They look very dirty."
Ken took a single, casual step to the right.
He moved with absolute, reality-bending speed. He used a basic Flash Step technique. He simply vanished from his spot. The first wave of chains crashed into the empty air. The shadow mouths bit nothing but dust. They smashed into the cobblestones. A large crater opened up in the street.
Ken reappeared ten feet away. He stood perfectly still. He chewed his strawberry candy.
"Stand still!" Javier shrieked. He waved his hands wildly.
The chains ripped out of the ground again. They turned around and chased Ken. They moved even faster this time. They formed a massive, inescapable net of dark teeth and black metal. They tried to surround him from every possible angle.
Ken sighed internally. He started to walk. He did not run. He just walked at a normal, relaxed pace.
He stepped to the left. A chain zoomed past his ear. He paused for a fraction of a second. Two chains crashed into each other right in front of him. He ducked his head slightly. A chain flew over his back. He moved like a leaf floating gently on a calm river. Every single movement was flawless. Every single dodge required the absolute minimum amount of physical effort.
"Dodging is so tiring," Ken complained in his mind. "I am doing way too much cardio today. My calves are going to ache tomorrow. I need to stretch more often."
Karna stood on a nearby rooftop. The silver-eyed spymaster watched the battle. He saw his master dodging the relentless attacks. Karna placed his hand on his weapon. He opened a telepathic link.
"Boss," Karna thought respectfully. "The enemy is using a parasitic spell. The chains absorb ambient mana. Shall I intervene? I can sever the magical connection with a light arrow."
"No, Karna," Ken replied lazily in his mind. "Do not attack. The chains are very dirty. They drip toxic sludge. If you attack them, the sludge will splash everywhere. You will ruin your nice black jacket. Dry cleaning is very expensive. I will handle this. I am just trying to find a clean spot to stand."
"Understood, Boss," Karna replied. He lowered his hand. He trusted his master completely.
Javier watched his ultimate spell fail. He breathed very fast. Sweat poured down his pale face. He pushed more and more dark mana into the attack. The chains grew thicker. They multiplied. Soon, there were hundreds of Living Black Chains swirling in the plaza. The entire street turned into a massive, writhing pit of black snakes.
The chains finally cornered Ken. They blocked all his escape routes. They formed a giant dome of snapping teeth and dark metal right above his head. They prepared to crash down on him all at once.
Javier grinned a wild, victorious grin. His purple eyes burned brightly.
"I have you now!" Javier laughed cruelly. "You cannot dodge anymore! You are totally trapped! My chains will consume you entirely!"
Ken stopped walking. He stood in the center of the dark dome. The shadow mouths snapped at him from every direction. The toxic purple light shined on his dark mask.
Ken looked around. He felt a deep sense of total boredom.
