Lancelot stood in the middle of the ruined plaza. The massive battle was finally over. The Black Magicians had been completely defeated. The toxic purple fog was fading away. The sky above the Bluemoon Kingdom finally cleared. The morning sun shined down on the wet cobblestones.
Inside his terrifying black mask, Ken Eliot let out a massive, exhausted sigh.
"This mission took way too long," Ken thought to himself. "I am completely out of snacks. I used my ultimate moves. I broke the dimension. I just want to log out and save my game. But I still have to finish the final quest objective."
Ken remembered his last required task. He had to find the King of Bluemoon. He also had to find the Crown Prince. He needed to restore them to their positions.
"This is a classic escort mission," Ken complained internally. He slouched his shoulders under his dark cloak. "I absolutely despise escort missions. The non-playable characters always walk too slow. They always get stuck behind walls. I just want a fast-travel point. Walking is a massive waste of my energy."
Lancelot turned around. His black cloak flowed elegantly behind him. The brilliant gold embroidery shined in the sunlight. He hovered a few inches off the ground. He refused to walk on the dirty cobblestones. The mud and ash would ruin his nice shoes. He glided smoothly through the ruined streets of the capital city.
The surviving citizens slowly came out of hiding. They peeked out of their broken windows. They stepped out of their wooden doors. The dark mind control was completely broken. They rubbed their eyes. They looked around in pure shock.
They saw the dark figure floating down the street. They saw the single glowing purple eye on his mask.
The citizens dropped to their knees instantly. They bowed their heads. They pressed their faces against the dirt. They shook with absolute fear and pure reverence. They knew this masked entity had saved them. He had destroyed the Black Magicians.
Ken looked down at the bowing people.
"This is very awkward," Ken analyzed lazily in his mind. "They are bowing in the mud. Their clothes are going to get completely stained. Laundry day is going to be a total nightmare for them. They should just stand up and go make some lunch. I really wish someone would make me lunch right now."
Ken thought about his team back at the estate. He thought about Naomi. She was much nicer to him lately. She smiled at him warmly. She did not scold him. She made fantastic grilled cheese sandwiches. He really missed her. He missed his comfortable sofa. He wanted to go home.
Lancelot did not speak to the citizens. He ignored them completely. He glided past the ruined market stalls. He headed straight toward the royal palace.

The palace doors were completely shattered. The grand marble columns were cracked. Lancelot floated right through the entrance. He moved down the long, empty corridors. His glowing purple eye scanned the area. He used his immense magical senses. He tracked the magical signatures of the royal bloodline.
He found them deep underground. They were hiding inside a highly secure bunker.
Lancelot reached a massive steel door. The door was locked with ancient magical seals. Ken did not search for a key. He did not ask for a password. He simply placed his dark-gloved hand against the solid metal.
"Open," Lancelot commanded coldly.
The ancient magical seals instantly shattered. The spell broke like fragile glass. The massive steel doors slid apart with a loud screeching sound.
Lancelot floated into the bunker.
King Justin and the Crown Prince stood in the center of the dark room. They held silver swords. They looked totally terrified. They expected to see a Black Magician. They expected to die.
Instead, they saw the shadow god.
King Justin dropped his sword. The metal blade clattered loudly against the stone floor. The King fell to his knees. The Crown Prince quickly followed his father. The young prince bowed his head deeply. They recognized the legendary cloak. They recognized the glowing purple eye.
"Great Lancelot," King Justin whispered. His voice shook with profound awe. "You came to our kingdom. You saved us."
Ken looked at the kneeling King. He saw a man who looked entirely defeated. The King's face was pale. His royal robes were covered in dust.
"He looks exactly like an exhausted quest giver," Ken thought to himself. "He just needs a bright yellow exclamation mark floating over his head. I am ready to turn in the quest. Please just give me my experience points and let me leave."
Lancelot lowered himself to the floor. His boots touched the stone gently. He stood perfectly straight. He projected an aura of absolute, crushing authority. The air in the bunker turned freezing cold.
"The dark forces are entirely eradicated," Lancelot stated. His deep, echoing voice filled the bunker. It lacked any human emotion. "The Black Magicians are gone. The monsters are destroyed. The city is clear."
The Crown Prince looked up. Tears of pure relief filled his eyes. "You defeated their entire army? All by yourself?"
"I am never by myself," Lancelot corrected smoothly. "My spirits handled the garbage disposal. I simply finished the main threat. The battle is officially over."
King Justin let out a massive, shaking breath. He closed his eyes. "We thought our kingdom was lost forever. We thought the dark magic would consume the entire continent. We owe you our absolute gratitude, Great Hero. We are in your debt."
"I do not need your gratitude," Lancelot replied coldly. "I need you to stand up. A King does not kneel in the dirt. You must return to your throne room. Your citizens need to see their leader. They need to know the kingdom still stands."
King Justin opened his eyes. He nodded slowly. He welcomed the strength in Lancelot's voice. He pushed himself off the floor. He helped his son stand up. They dusted off their royal robes.
"You are correct, Lancelot," King Justin said firmly. "We must show strength. We must rebuild."
"Follow me," Lancelot ordered.
Lancelot turned around. He walked out of the bunker. He did not float this time. He walked slowly so the normal humans could keep up with him.
Ken dragged his feet inside his boots. He slouched his shoulders just a tiny fraction under the dark cloak.
"This is the worst part of the game," Ken complained in his mind. "The walking speed of these non-playable characters is incredibly slow. I could literally crawl faster than this. I am burning too many calories just waiting for them. I really hope Naomi saved me a large slice of cake. I definitely earned a whole cake today."
They walked up the long stone staircases. They navigated the ruined hallways of the palace. The walls were scorched by dark magic. The beautiful paintings were torn. The glass windows were shattered.
The Crown Prince looked at the destruction. He looked very sad. "Our beautiful home is completely ruined. It will take years to fix this."
