Naomi laughed a bright, happy laugh. "You are completely ridiculous, Ken. But your weird luck always works. I will trust your intuition."

Far away from the buggy streets, the Imperial Prison stood tall and silent. It was a massive fortress made of solid gray stone. High walls surrounded the building. Iron bars covered the small windows. It looked like an impenetrable stronghold.

But the security was severely compromised. Most of the royal guards had left their posts. They ran into the city to fight the mutant bugs. Only a few basic guards remained at the prison gates. They looked nervously at the sky. They watched the giant wasps flying in the distance. They were completely distracted.

A group of figures moved silently through the shadows outside the prison walls.

There were six of them. They wore long, ragged black robes. They wore pale white masks over their faces. Their eyes glowed with a toxic, sickly purple light. They were Black Magicians.

The corrupt politicians had hired them. The politicians wanted Dr. Raven back. They needed his silence. They needed his knowledge. They ordered the Black Magicians to break into the prison and extract the valuable asset.

The infiltrators crept toward the back wall of the prison. The area was totally deserted. There were no guards on this side of the fortress.

The lead magician raised his pale hand. He placed his palm flat against the thick, solid stone wall. He channeled dark purple magic into his fingers. The toxic magic hissed loudly. The solid stone began to melt. It bubbled and dissolved like wet sugar. A large, circular hole formed in the thick wall.

The magicians stepped through the melted hole. They entered the outer courtyard of the prison. They moved with absolute, terrifying silence. They were highly trained infiltrators. They thought their mission was going perfectly. They thought the bug invasion provided the ultimate smokescreen.

They walked across the courtyard. They headed straight toward the main cell block.

Suddenly, the temperature in the courtyard plummeted. The air turned incredibly cold. The shadows on the ground began to swirl and twist.

The Black Magicians stopped walking. They raised their glowing purple hands. They looked around the empty courtyard. They sensed a massive, overwhelming magical presence.

A tall, flawlessly handsome man stepped out of the shadows. He wore a sleek black tactical jacket. His silver eyes locked onto the dark mages. He stood perfectly straight. He placed his hands politely behind his back.

A second figure dropped from the top of the prison wall. He landed on the cobblestones with a massive, booming thud. He was a giant, muscular man. He wore dark armor. Thick, jagged red dragon scales covered his arms. His golden eyes burned with pure rage.

Karna and Ryu had arrived. The shadow defense was officially active. The jailbreak was about to encounter an impossible, insurmountable obstacle.

---

The outer courtyard of the Imperial Prison was very dark. The moon hid behind thick gray clouds. The six Black Magicians stood perfectly still. They stared at the two men blocking their path.

The lead magician raised his hand. Toxic purple energy crackled around his fingers. He pointed at Karna.

"Step aside," the lead magician hissed. His voice sounded like grinding stones. "You do not belong here. We are taking the prisoner. We will kill anyone who stands in our way."

Karna did not move. The spymaster stood with his hands clasped neatly behind his back. He offered a crisp, polite bow. He looked completely relaxed.

"Good evening," Karna greeted smoothly. His voice was calm and professional. "You are trespassing on restricted imperial grounds. My employer has ordered a total lockdown of this facility. You will not proceed any further. I highly suggest you surrender immediately. It is the most logical choice."

Ryu cracked his massive knuckles. The sound echoed loudly across the courtyard. The giant dragon-man grinned a fierce, terrifying grin. Small bursts of crimson fire popped from his fists.

"Do not ask them to surrender, Karna!" Ryu roared deeply. His golden eyes burned with anticipation. "I want to crush them! I want to turn these pathetic insects into gray ash! The Master ordered us to defend this building! I will smash them into the dirt!"

The Black Magicians did not listen. They did not care about the warnings. They wanted to complete their mission. They wanted to rescue Dr. Raven.

The six mages attacked at the exact same time.

They thrust their hands forward. A massive, coordinated barrage of dark purple magic shot across the courtyard. Toxic energy blasts zipped through the air. Jagged spears made of solid shadow magic flew directly toward Karna and Ryu. The attack was swift and incredibly lethal.

Karna did not panic. He did not even take his hands from behind his back. He simply shifted his weight.

He moved with blistering, impossible speed. He blurred out of existence. The dark purple blasts sailed right through the empty space where he just stood. The toxic magic hit the stone wall behind him. The stone melted instantly with a loud hiss.

Karna reappeared five feet to the left. He stood perfectly straight. He did not break a single sweat.

Ryu did not dodge. The giant dragon-man wanted to show off his pure strength. He planted his armored boots firmly on the cobblestones. He crossed his massive, scaly arms over his chest.

The shadow spears slammed directly into Ryu's body.

BAM! BAM! BAM!

The impact created a loud, booming sound. Dark smoke flew into the air. But Ryu did not flinch. He did not take a single step backward. The dark magic shattered completely against his thick, dark red dragon scales. The attack did absolutely zero damage.

Ryu laughed a booming, cruel laugh. "Is that all you have?! Your magic is completely pathetic! It feels like a gentle breeze!"

The Black Magicians stared in pure shock. Their most powerful spells did not leave a single scratch on the giant man. They realized they were fighting absolute monsters.

Karna raised his right hand. A brilliant, blinding golden light erupted from his palm. He summoned his legendary weapon. The Divine Vijaya Bow materialized in his grip. The bow glowed with immense, radiant power. Ancient magical runes shined along the elegant curve of the weapon.

"You rely entirely on dark tricks," Karna stated coldly. He pulled the glowing string back. An arrow of pure, concentrated white light formed instantly. "You possess zero actual combat discipline."

Karna released the string.

The golden arrow shot forward. It moved faster than a shooting star. It was completely silent. It hit the first Black Magician directly in the chest.

The dark mage did not scream. The pure light pierced right through his dark robes. The golden energy consumed his toxic purple magic entirely. The magician dissolved instantly into harmless, sparkling white dust. The dust floated away into the night sky. One enemy was completely erased in a fraction of a second.

"One neutralized," Karna reported calmly. He nocked another arrow of light.
