Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 220: A 50/50 SplitAfter the name change, it would also be reviewed within one business day.
This planetary survey was much faster than the one for Cloudsea Planet. After all, there wasn’t as much work to do.
Back in her room, Moira checked the time. It was already three in the morning.
’Everyone should be asleep by now.’
Moira plopped down on the bed, a mischievous expression on her face.
She opened the game panel and went to her private messages.
Amidst a long list of unread messages, Moira pinpointed Redlight.
Ever since the incident with The Crimson Dominion ended, Moira could clearly feel a change. The people who used to get in her face over every little thing had become scarce, and everyone’s tone toward her had grown much more polite.
At the same time, more people were trying to win her over. However, Moira ignored them all. If anyone asked, the answer was always that she was too busy—and it was true, she was.
[SoySauceDrunkard: Planet data. Want it?]
At that moment, Moira felt like a boss calling an employee in the middle of the night to work overtime.
Meanwhile, Redlight was jolted awake mid-sleep by a full bladder. He was just about to use the restroom and go back to bed.
He hadn’t slept well for days, busy resolving the lingering issues with The Crimson Dominion.
Of course, a big part of that was because SoySauceDrunkard hadn’t replied to any of the messages he’d sent over the past few days.
Just as he was groggily making his way to the bathroom, he suddenly heard a notification sound.
It was a special alert tone he had specifically requested funding from his superiors to buy from the System Mall.
Whenever SoySauceDrunkard replied to his messages, this sound would go off immediately.
So, upon hearing that long-awaited sound, the once-drowsy Redlight was instantly wide awake.
He opened his chat with SoySauceDrunkard, and his eyes fell on the message: "Planet data. Want it?"
Without a moment’s hesitation, Redlight started replying while shaking Chase Shepard, who was sleeping on the top bunk, awake.
[Redlight: Yes yes yes yes!!!]
Shaken from a deep sleep, Chase Shepard was about to lose his temper when he heard Redlight shout, "Boss, wake up! SoySauceDrunkard sent over the planet data!"
"What!"
Chase Shepard’s eyes flew wide open, and he jolted upright in bed.
"Quick, notify everyone! We’re having a meeting!"
As he spoke, Chase Shepard threw on some clothes, grabbed his phone, and hurried out the door.
Meanwhile, Moira was oblivious to the chaos erupting on the other end. Because the files were so large, it took a full ten minutes for Patience to transmit all the relevant data on Veridian Prime.
「Ten minutes later.」
[Redlight: Mr. Lynch, is this the planet for next month’s auction? What would you like us to do?]
After sending the message, Redlight glanced back at Chase Shepard.
The data had only just finished transferring, but thousands of scientists had already begun analyzing it.
Although only ten minutes had passed, they had already gleaned a great deal of valuable information because the files were so detailed.
The most important finding was that the planet was extremely suitable for human habitation. Its environment was comparable to that of Caelus—in fact, it was even superior to present-day Caelus, and it was larger as well.
However, they also faced a problem: a planet this large was more than they could handle on their own. They would likely need to cooperate with other nations.
Before that, however, they had Redlight probe SoySauceDrunkard’s intentions first.
Redlight had become the designated liaison for SoySauceDrunkard. There was no other choice; SoySauceDrunkard simply ignored anyone else who tried to make contact.
Moira saw the message and quickly replied:
[SoySauceDrunkard: What nonsense are you talking about? Why would I ever auction off a planet like this?]
Redlight froze. Everyone who saw the reply froze.
’What does that mean?’
One of the quicker-witted people present guessed the meaning behind SoySauceDrunkard’s words. His face instantly flushed, and his hands began to tremble with excitement.
[Redlight: Um, Mr. Lynch... does your message mean what I think it means?]
[SoySauceDrunkard: If you haven’t gotten the wrong idea, then yes, that’s what it means.]
[SoySauceDrunkard: But don’t celebrate too early. I have conditions.]
"Quick, quick, ask what the conditions are! We’ll agree to anything," said an older man with salt-and-pepper hair.
If they could truly secure the development rights to this planet, all the difficulties Cathaya currently faced would be resolved. Even if a natural disaster struck Caelus, even if the planet itself were destroyed, they would at least have an escape route, a way to preserve the flame of their civilization.
[SoySauceDrunkard: You’ve seen the data I sent. That’s a Veridia, and an excellent Colony Planet. It has already formed a complete internal ecosystem. My condition is that you cannot destroy this ecosystem.]
The implication was that they could develop it reasonably, but not exploit it without restraint. After all, humanity’s destructive capabilities were plain to see.
[SoySauceDrunkard: As for the rest, I will give you a copy of the interstellar code, and you must abide by its laws. In addition, aside from rent, I will take a fifty percent cut of all resources you extract from the planet.]
[SoySauceDrunkard: And don’t think I’m asking for too much. By interstellar standards, my rates are actually very cheap.]
’When she was researching this earlier, she’d learned that most planet owners who couldn’t develop a planet themselves would outsource it. The profit share was typically 60-40, or even 70-30, in the owner’s favor. And for a Veridia, a true golden goose, the split could even reach 80-20.’
That was why Moira had said her rates were very cheap.
[Redlight: Done. No problem.]
[Redlight: We will let the life on that planet know that we’re coming to join the family, not to break it up.]
Moira was speechless. ’That sounds a little weird...’
’Whatever, let it be weird.’
Moira had Patience download the interstellar code from the web, compile it into a file, and send it over.
’All of Cathaya was learning the interstellar language now, so they shouldn’t have any trouble understanding it.’
[Redlight: Um, Mr. Lynch, you mentioned this planet won’t be in the auction. May I ask how many planets will be up for auction in total?]
[SoySauceDrunkard: Three.]
