Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 222: Training, TrainingMoira Lynch split the two Garbage Stars into several sections to be auctioned off separately.
As for Mochina, she only auctioned off the ore mining rights.
After finishing all this, Moira Lynch closed her shop and paid it no more mind.
She walked out of her room and went downstairs, where Shane Rhodes and the others were working out.
One was casually tossing a one-hundred-kilogram dumbbell with a single hand, another was treating a punching bag like a game opponent, and the last one had the treadmill under his feet practically smoking.
"What... are you guys doing?" Moira Lynch asked from the stairs.
Kai York gave the dumbbell in his hand a toss and said casually, "Working out. Can’t you tell?"
’I really couldn’t tell. It looked more like they were playing with toys.’
"Why don’t you try something different? I feel like you’re about to break this gym equipment."
Moira Lynch pointed at the treadmill. "See? The treadmill’s about to start smoking."
Hearing this, the three of them stopped what they were doing.
"Our physical fitness has improved so fast that this old equipment can’t challenge us anymore," Kai York complained.
Compared to other players, the valuable items Moira Lynch’s group had consumed were innumerable.
Although Moira Lynch didn’t want to reveal her identity, she had given Shane Rhodes and the other two special access via her shop.
Whenever the three of them went to her shop, they could buy almost anything they wanted.
Just then, Moira Lynch suddenly remembered that she seemed to have acquired some exercise equipment from the Leonin.
Besides the weighted bracelets she was currently wearing, there was a lot of other fitness equipment.
Because it was all so bulky, she had never taken any of it out.
Moira Lynch sent her consciousness into her storage space and, in a warehouse filled with miscellaneous odds and ends, found the dust-covered fitness equipment.
’Good thing I haven’t sold it yet.’
’Then again, even if I did list this stuff for sale, no one would probably buy it anyway.’
"Clear out the living room. I’ve got some good stuff for you."
Hearing Moira Lynch say this, the three men were instantly intrigued.
They moved swiftly, clearing everything out of the living room.
"Moira, should we move the swimming pool, too?" Kai York asked.
"It’s full of insecticide water," Moira Lynch said. "Move it upstairs, and put a humidifier in its place."
"Okay."
Kai York went over to the supply storage, and in no time at all, he brought out a humidifier. He filled it with water, plugged it in, and soon, a white mist began to rise from it.
After Kai York moved the swimming pool, Shane Rhodes and Hugh Finch finished clearing everything else out of the living room.
"Everything’s all cleared out. So what’s this good stuff you were talking about?" Kai York asked, rubbing his hands together in excitement.
The other two didn’t say a word, but they watched her with eager eyes.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch took out all the fitness equipment she had gotten from the Leonin, which instantly took up a good two-thirds of the living room.
"What is all this?"
"Looks like fitness equipment," Shane Rhodes said.
He then looked at Moira Lynch. "How do we use this stuff?"
Moira Lynch looked blankly at him and shook her head. "I don’t know. But they all have instruction manuals on them."
The three men didn’t ask Moira Lynch where she got the equipment. After all, everyone has their secrets.
After a bit of research, they finally figured out how to use the machines.
The training equipment was divided into five categories: Speed, Jumping, Strength, Evasion, and Combat Simulation.
That Leonin was clearly not short on cash. Even though this was his obsolete equipment, its quality was still absolutely guaranteed.
All the equipment used virtual simulation technology. The combat mode, in particular, could even simulate the pain of being injured in a fight without causing any actual physical damage.
After a brief look-through, Shane Rhodes and the other two couldn’t wait to start trying it out.
Moira chose the Speed machine.
The moment the machine started, the scene in front of Moira changed in an instant.
Before her was a road with no end in sight.
’That’s it?’
Just as Moira was thinking that was all there was to it, a rumbling sound suddenly erupted from behind her. RUMBLE... RUMBLE...
She glanced back and saw a giant boulder rolling toward her at incredible speed.
Even though she knew it was all a simulation, Moira couldn’t stop herself from breaking into a sprint when faced with such a boulder.
Gradually, her speed increased, and the boulder behind her sped up to match, always maintaining a certain distance. It never caught up, but it gave her an unending sense of urgency and crisis.
After what felt like an eternity, Moira’s stamina began to run out. The scenery on both sides flashed past her in a blur.
Moira felt she had never run so fast in her life.
She felt like she wasn’t running anymore, but flying.
A little while later, Moira finally reached her limit, and the machine stopped automatically.
The scene before her vanished. Moira collapsed to the ground, panting. Her heart was hammering—THUMP, THUMP, THUMP—as if it would leap out of her chest at any second, and her clothes were soaked with sweat.
"I can’t believe I’m still alive," Moira sighed from the floor.
"Yeah, you’re alive. But I feel like I’m about to die."
Kai York’s voice drifted over from not far away, laced with an indescribable weakness.
She struggled to turn her head.
She saw Kai York, Shane Rhodes, and Hugh Finch all sprawled ungracefully on the floor. Kai York looked to be in the worst state of all.
He had chosen the Combat Simulation. Although he didn’t have a single scratch on him, one could guess from the way he was lying on the floor—limbs splayed out and twitching from time to time—that he had definitely gotten beaten up badly.
The four of them lay on the floor for a full hour before they had enough strength to get up.
During this time, Moira also figured out why they were all in such a miserable state.
They had forgotten to adjust the difficulty level.
The current setting was still at the Leonin’s difficulty, a level that was simply beyond what they could handle right now.
Moira Lynch took out a few recovery potions and drank one herself. The fatigue instantly vanished by more than half, and she could finally move her weak, aching limbs again.
"Want one?"
Moira Lynch’s "Don’t Miss It" shop sold recovery potions. They were a bit pricey, but still cheaper than the System’s price, so anyone with a bit of strength would buy some to have on hand for emergencies.
In this situation, the others couldn’t afford to be polite. They took the potions and downed them in one gulp.
A moment later, they were finally free from their state of being completely unable to move.
Looking at the sky outside, they saw it was already evening. It was unclear whose stomach it was, but one of them let out a loud "GROWL."
"Boss, isn’t it about time for dinner?"
The words had barely left Kai York’s mouth when a piece of bread was thrown right at him.
"It’s just bread today. If you want a real meal, make it yourself."
