Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 289 - 279: Prophetic RobeAt that moment, the unconscious Summer slowly opened her eyes. Seeing her tear-streaked mother, she was instantly overcome with emotion.
Unfortunately, her body was too weak for her to move at all.
Although she couldn’t move, she could still speak.
"Mom, I just saw Fairyland. It was so beautiful."
Summer hadn’t been completely unconscious when Moira Lynch pulled her into the space.
Coupled with the excellent environment inside the space, she had groggily regained a sliver of consciousness, which was how she saw the scenery within.
But it didn’t last long, because Moira Lynch sent her out again very quickly.
As for the man’s body, Moira Lynch had of course taken it.
Moira Lynch didn’t let the man’s body linger in her space for long before tossing it outside the base.
Destroying the body, erasing all traces.
Before tossing the body, Moira Lynch found quite a few Space Buttons on it.
The contents of these Space Buttons were a chaotic mess, consisting mostly of food.
’Presumably, the man had stolen these Space Buttons from the people he’d killed.’
Besides food, there were also several items.
Among them, a purple robe caught her eye.
This robe could actually block her spiritual power.
She took the robe out of her space.
It was cool to the touch, like the finest silk. Despite being such a large garment, it felt utterly weightless in her hands.
She had to admit, the robe’s aesthetic was right up her alley.
"Patience, scan this robe," Moira Lynch said.
[Scanning...]
[Name: Prophetic Robe
Ability: A heaven-sent item created specifically for diviners. When worn, it enhances the user’s divination ability and even resists the backlash caused by divination.
It is an item all diviners covet.
However, note that the Prophetic Robe is a very discerning item. If the user’s talent does not meet its expectations or is too mediocre, the cost of performing divination will be doubled.]
’This item seems like it was made especially for Hugh Finch.’
It was useless in her hands anyway, so Moira Lynch decided to give it to Hugh Finch and put the robe to its best use.
But how to give it to him was the question.
’If I just give it to him directly, how do I explain the robe’s origin?’
’To avoid unnecessary trouble, I’d better use my SoySauceDrunkard identity.’
An idea quickly sprang to mind.
Moira Lynch immediately listed the Prophetic Robe in her shop, writing out its name and ability in detail.
Then, she set the price to "free."
She added a note in red text, stating that it was a gift for "the fated one." Only someone with sufficiently strong talent—specifically, Divination Talent—could take the item.
Of course, this was all just for show. After all, Moira Lynch was the one pulling the strings; only the person she chose would be able to take it.
Moira Lynch also added another condition to the deal: the recipient must never attempt to divine her identity without her express permission.
For most people, such a promise might be empty words, but for a diviner, it was as binding as a Mireeni swearing an oath to The Sea Mother.
Moira Lynch went into the shop’s backend and configured it so that only Hugh Finch could claim the item.
After finishing all this, Moira Lynch mentally patted herself on the back for her cleverness. Now all she had to do was wait for Hugh Finch to take the item.
’It shouldn’t take long.’
After all, who knew how many people were watching her shop, twenty-four hours a day.
Sure enough, the news that SoySauceDrunkard’s shop was giving away a free item quickly started trending.
And it wasn’t just any ordinary item—it was a growth-type item, one that could evolve.
The value of such an item was self-evident.
The higher-ups in other countries might have been aware of such things, but for ordinary people, this was the first time they had ever seen an item that could evolve.
Most of the items they possessed were single-use and would disappear after being activated once.
Even so, those items were considered extremely precious.
So, after hearing the news, countless people flocked to the already-packed "Don’t Miss It" shop.
Fortunately, Moira Lynch’s shop wasn’t a physical one and could accommodate any number of visitors. Otherwise, given the sheer volume of traffic, it would have crashed long ago.
Unfortunately, the Prophetic Robe could only be used by those who had awakened a Divination Talent.
Although the recipient had already been decided, Moira Lynch took out a Talent Testing Device to prevent any opportunists or spoilers—the kind of people who, if they couldn’t have it, would ensure no one else could either.
It was a machine she had acquired from the Rabbit-kin a while back and had only just rediscovered while organizing her space.
After the Prophetic Robe was claimed, this machine would also be put up for sale.
Moira Lynch placed the Prophetic Robe in a separate section of the shop, blocking access to anyone who didn’t have a Divination Talent.
This move immediately screened out ninety-nine point nine-nine percent of the visitors.
Of the remaining zero point zero-one percent, a large portion would still be barred for having insufficient talent.
All in all, very few people could actually get near the Prophetic Robe.
After dealing with the Prophetic Robe, Moira Lynch turned her attention to another matter.
The previous auction had left her with a stockpile of items. Moira Lynch planned to sell off all the single-use, escape-related ones, as well as the other marginal items that were useless to her but a shame to just throw away.
Moira Lynch had no shortage of escape methods, so these items weren’t of much use to her.
As for those marginal items, most had no practical application; like vases, they were purely ornamental.
While taking inventory of the items, Moira Lynch discovered something interesting—no, to be precise, she found eight identical triangles.
They caught her attention because all eight pieces were identical in material and shape, and they attracted one another like magnets.
Moira Lynch tried piecing them together and was surprised to find that the eight pieces combined to form a single item.
Once assembled, it formed a palm-sized, yellow, octagonal box.
It looked like a powder compact and even had a small mirror inside.
After having Patience scan it, she found that there were, surprisingly, no records of it.
After a bit of experimentation, Moira Lynch quickly figured out the item’s function.
’How to put it...’ Used correctly, the item was extremely powerful. Used incorrectly, it was no better than a mid-tier item.
The item was essentially a dispenser that would randomly generate eight Tokens each day.
Each Token had a different function, much like talismans from The Cultivation World.
It produced eight per day, resetting every twenty-four hours. Unused Tokens would disappear upon refresh; they couldn’t be stockpiled.
