Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 367 - 357: Playing as a Game NPC 5The gleaming equipment on these people practically screamed two words: ’filthy rich’.
The chatter in the area died down instantly as players automatically cleared a path for the group.
It was as if a group of A-list celebrities were walking the red carpet.
The group caught Moira Lynch’s eye as well.
This gear didn’t just mean they were rich; it also spelled out two words: high Attributes. Their attack power had to be over ten thousand.
With a thought, the group’s information appeared before Moira Lynch.
She was blown away by what she saw.
’Over ten thousand? Not even close.’ The lowest attack power in the group was over twenty thousand, and the highest was a staggering eighty thousand.
Moira Lynch felt a twinge of regret. None of them had hit the one-hundred-thousand mark; otherwise, she could have finished her task in one go.
Still, even if none of them were at one hundred thousand, she could probably lower her standards a bit.
Moira Lynch glanced at the number of people in the group and decisively adjusted her target numbers.
’Thirty thousand combat power, five people.’
The group in front of her was a perfect fit, except for the member with the lowest combat power.
"Is there something we can help you with?" The one in the lead, a man with blue hair and golden armor, wore a mask.
"Honored heroes, I am indeed in need of your help."
Moira Lynch spoke for the first time.
The surrounding players saw this and their eyes widened. ’There really is a quest!’
After seeing so many others fail, they had started to think they were wrong and that there was no quest here at all.
It wouldn’t have been the first time, after all.
So, it really was just a matter of them not meeting the conditions to trigger it.
Seeing Moira Lynch speak, the group immediately realized they had an opening. The leader continued, "Please, tell us what you need. My companions and I will help."
"It’s like this... I am a humble Loose Cultivator who wishes for a peaceful life. Not long ago, someone coveted a treasure I possess and tried to kill me for it. I managed to turn the tables and defeat my pursuer, but I was gravely injured in the process. If you would be willing to gather some healing herbs for me, I would gladly give you that treasure in return."
As soon as Moira Lynch finished her lines, a quest prompt appeared for the five players facing her—all of whom had an attack power exceeding fifty thousand.
[Quest: Azure’s Plea
The Loose Cultivator, Azure, has been gravely injured while being pursued by her enemies. Help her heal her wounds.
Quest Reward: Isra’s Ring. Wearing this ring will double your attack power.]
The leader’s eyes widened when he saw the reward.
’This reward is insane!’
Their attack power was already high, especially the leader’s, which was at eighty thousand—almost ninety thousand.
If that were to be doubled, his attack power would surpass even the number one player on the combat power rankings!
’Accept! I have to accept this quest. And I have to complete it. I absolutely cannot let anyone else get it.’
After accepting the quest, the group left in a hurry. The list of items required to heal Azure was long, and the components were all quite rare. They needed to start gathering them as soon as possible.
Seeing them go, Moira Lynch smoothly completed her own task and departed as well.
Watching Moira Lynch disappear, the remaining players realized the quest reward must have been even more valuable than they had imagined.
Still, they didn’t feel too much regret. Even if they had known, it was all pointless if they couldn’t meet the conditions to trigger the quest in the first place.
Meanwhile, having completed her second role-playing assignment, Moira Lynch felt a wave of relief.
Now, all she had to do was wait for the players to finish their quest so she could return and finalize the turn-in.
Of course, that was assuming they completed the quest within three days.
Otherwise, once Moira Lynch left the role, another person would take over the NPC, and the players’ quest would automatically fail.
It was a sort of hidden rule.
A bit unethical, perhaps, but that wasn’t Moira Lynch’s problem.
To finish her overall game sooner and free up time for other things, Moira Lynch decided to go ahead and start her third character role-play.
Of the three remaining NPCs she needed to play, one only appeared at night. This meant Moira Lynch would have to work a night shift, though thankfully it was only for an hour.
She looked over the other two and discovered that neither seemed to be an ordinary NPC.
Besides the nighttime NPC, there was a BOSS and a hidden NPC: the Snow Maiden.
After a long hesitation, Moira Lynch finally made her decision: she was clocking out early.
The other two characters seemed like a lot of trouble, each requiring a full day to role-play properly.
Just as Moira Lynch was about to clock out, she got a notification that someone was at the village chief’s location to turn in a quest.
Hearing the alert, Moira Lynch had no choice but to postpone her break and wrap things up for her first NPC role.
The moment she arrived in the courtyard, a short, chubby old man came running toward her in tears. "My daughter! I finally get to see you again! I thought I’d never see you again!"
Moira Lynch played along, weeping dramatically with the village chief. Together, they put on a convincing performance of a touching father-daughter reunion for the player who had come to turn in the quest.
When she felt the act had gone on long enough, Moira Lynch stood up, wiped her tears, and said to the village chief, "Father, Mother is in the room. She was so worried while you were missing. You should go see her."
The village chief nodded.
After the village chief had gone, Moira Lynch approached Lord Fair-reign with a smile. "Honored hero, thank you for helping me find my father. This is the reward I promised you."
As she spoke, Moira Lynch took out the ring she had made earlier.
Lord Fair-reign accepted the ring, and its description immediately popped up in his view.
[Healing Ring: A ring with a healing function, casually crafted by the village chief’s daughter. This item possesses a Healing Ability, automatically healing the wielder when they take damage. No cooldown.
It can also cast a wide-area Healing Spell. If the wielder already possesses a Healing Spell, this item will enhance its effect.
Cooldown: Ten minutes
This is one of the Special Items. It can be materialized into the real world with three hundred Real Exchange Coupons.
P.S. Once materialized, this item will be permanently removed from the game.]
Lord Fair-reign was a little disappointed when he read the first sentence. A "casually crafted" ring couldn’t be that good, could it?
But the further he read, the more impressive the Healing Ring’s abilities became.
Most importantly, it was one of the Special Items that could be brought into the real world.
The abilities of such items were generally incredibly powerful, and any one of them could be sold for an astronomical price.
