Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 376 - 366: Playing a Game NPC 14The wind began to pick up, visibly strengthening. In just a moment, the once-azure sky was blanketed by wind and snow, and flakes began to fall.
’The blizzard is just starting. It’s not my turn to intervene yet.’
So, Moira Lynch used the Snow Sprite’s Melting Snow ability and began to wander casually through the Northlands.
Moira Lynch was like a little fish swimming freely through the water.
’Come to think of it, aside from testing it once on Glacius right after I got it, this is the first time I’ve really used this blessing.’
’I didn’t expect it to be so seamless on the first try.’
Moira Lynch felt as if she had become one with the snow around her. At the same time, she seemed to be seeing an entirely different world.
Seeing the world from the perspective of a single snowflake.
’This feeling... how should I put it? It’s a little terrifying.’
’Like one of the Dwarves entering the Land of Giants.’
’For the first time, I feel so small... physically.’
While Moira Lynch was lost in the joy of playing in the snow, the blizzard outside was growing ever stronger.
Just then, Moira Lynch suddenly received a system warning.
[Staff members are not permitted to abandon their posts. Please fulfill your duties. Multiple individuals are lost in the blizzard. Commence rescue operations immediately.]
Hearing the system’s voice, Moira Lynch snapped back to her senses and checked on the world above.
Only then did she realize that at some point, the blizzard had reached a terrifying intensity.
The frigid wind howled, carrying newly fallen snow that felt like sharp blades scraping against the skin.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch immediately switched into work mode.
As a Snow Maiden, Moira Lynch could clearly perceive everything happening within the ice and snow. With the aid of her spiritual power, she quickly located the trapped individuals.
...
A player with the appearance of an alligator trudged through the icy, snow-swept landscape as a bitter wind howled.
His tail, normally a weapon in combat, had become a liability, swinging stiffly in the frigid wind.
*Divine Soul* was an incredibly immersive game; even pain was fully simulated. While players could disable this feature, most chose not to for the sake of an optimal experience, instead just lowering the sensitivity.
After all, death was a part of any game. If you kept the pain simulation at 100%, dying a few times would be an unbearable experience for any normal person.
It wouldn’t take long to become traumatized.
Teenagers, in particular, were prohibited from adjusting the pain sensitivity at all. After all, kids that age were fearless daredevils who chased thrills and tended to act on impulse.
Even as the player’s tail was on the verge of freezing solid, he didn’t dare stop moving it. He was afraid that if he stopped, he might actually lose it.
The game’s item shop didn’t sell any clothing that could cover his tail, so his only option was to keep moving it to encourage blood flow.
But it wasn’t having much of an effect.
Just as he felt his body reach its limit and his vision went black, he lost control and started to fall forward. At that moment, a white figure suddenly appeared before him.
Moira Lynch looked down at the collapsed player. He had a frost debuff that was constantly draining his health.
Just as his health was about to hit zero, a brilliant white light emanated from Moira Lynch’s hands. A moment later, a white protective shield enveloped the player, sealing him off from the cold air.
’This should be enough, right?’
Moira Lynch watched as the player’s health stopped dropping. She figured that was good enough; she just had to wait for him to wake up.
However, her mission panel still read: Rescue in progress. It wasn’t complete.
’On second thought,’ she mused, ’the shield only stops him from losing more health while he’s unconscious. It doesn’t restore what he’s already lost, and the frost debuff is still active.’
’And once he wakes up, the shield will vanish, and he’ll just die anyway.’
’So he’ll just die a little later?’
’It’s kind of like one of those temporary invincibility buffs in games.’
’In that case, this definitely doesn’t count as a successful rescue.’
Moira Lynch thought for a moment, first reviewing all the Snow Maiden’s abilities. Then, with a wave of her hand, a snow house rose from the ground.
Next, she started a fire inside the snow house, then reached out and tapped the player, removing his debuff.
Freed from the biting frost, the player’s health began to gradually recover.
Finally, she placed her hand on the snow. A few seconds later, a bottle of Medicine that radiated a frosty aura appeared in her hand.
[Frost Medicine: A Medicine created by a Snow Maiden from the condensed essence of snow. Drinking it grants immunity to cold for a period of time.]
After placing the Frost Medicine beside the player, Moira Lynch’s status finally updated: Rescue Complete.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch breathed a sigh of relief. ’Finally...’
But Moira Lynch’s relief didn’t last long, as she sensed two more players in danger nearby.
She left the snow house and headed straight for the two players’ location.
What Moira Lynch didn’t know was that the player she had just saved was livestreaming the entire time, even while unconscious.
He was a game exploration streamer who had vowed to show his audience all the most beautiful sights in *Divine Soul*.
He had come to the Northlands this time because its aurora was ranked among the top three of *Divine Soul’s* ten most beautiful vistas.
Unfortunately, his quest was over before it even began. He had barely reached the Northlands when he was hit with this god-awful blizzard.
Just when both he and his viewers thought the trip was a bust, events took an unexpected turn.
"What was that? Was that an NPC?"
"White clothes, white skin, white hair... must be a Snow Maiden."
"But aren’t Snow Maidens supposed to be a bad omen? Why would one save somebody? And she appeared right when the streamer collapsed."
"Guys, I can tell you with 100% certainty, that was a Snow Maiden."
"Am I the only one who thinks that Snow Maiden is gorgeous?"
"Me! I do! Finally found someone in chat who gets it."
"With eyes that pretty, she must look beautiful when she cries."
"The user above is a pervert. Identification complete."
"Whoa, whoa, where’d she go? Come back! I haven’t gotten a good look yet."
"Heh heh, good thing I’m quick. I started screen recording the moment the Snow Maiden showed up. With looks like that, she’s definitely a top-ten contender for the ’Most Beautiful NPC in *Divine Soul*’."
"Am I the only one who’s curious about that bottle of Medicine the Snow Maiden left? Why hasn’t the streamer woken up yet?"
