Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 382 - 372: Playing a Game NPC 20By the time Moira Lynch got to the waste processing plant, she was just in time to see a garbage truck returning, fully loaded.
She found the robot in charge of the plant with practiced ease. After she stated her identity, the robot’s eyes instantly shot wide open.
"Are you sure you’re in the right place? I haven’t been notified that they’re sending a Recycler."
"I came on my own initiative. My family is rather poor, so I want to earn some extra money."
Hearing Moira Lynch’s explanation, the robot’s eyes widened even more. "Recyclers can be poor? But all your ratings are ten-star."
In this interstellar society, Recyclers were a high-income profession due to their irreplaceable nature.
"I may earn a lot, but I have a huge family to support. We suffered a calamity not long ago, and now a lot of people are at home, depending on me."
At her words, the robot’s expression immediately turned sympathetic.
"Oh, I see. Well, go on in, then. We happen to have a lot of good junk today."
After Moira Lynch entered the waste processing plant, she didn’t smell the stench she had expected. All around her were mountains of garbage—all things that other people had thrown away.
But to Moira Lynch, these things were treasures.
She stored all of it in her space.
"Master, should I sort all this?"
Patience suddenly asked.
Hearing this, Moira Lynch thought for a moment before replying, "No, just sell it all as is when the time comes."
"Sell it as is?"
Patience seemed shocked by Moira Lynch’s decision.
"But it’s all junk. How can we possibly sell it?"
"Who says this stuff is junk? It just hasn’t fallen into the hands of someone who appreciates it. Besides, even junk can be turned into treasure. Just package it all up into blind boxes."
Without even realizing it, Moira Lynch was slowly developing the instincts of a true scammer.
Just as Moira Lynch was continuously storing the mountain of junk in front of her into her space, she suddenly sensed that someone else had appeared nearby.
She couldn’t see them, however; they were likely hidden by the mountain of junk in front of her.
At first, Moira Lynch didn’t pay it much mind, but when she stored away the entire mountain of junk in one go, she saw the person on the other side, their eyes wide with shock.
After a thousandth of a second, Moira Lynch reacted, spinning around to run.
But a voice from behind her slid into her ears like a devil’s whisper.
"Before you run, shouldn’t you erase my memory first? SoySauceDrunkard."
The last word was practically spat out through gritted teeth.
’That’s a good idea.’
Realizing she’d been exposed, Moira Lynch turned to face Hugh Finch and asked resignedly, "When did you figure it out?"
Seeing Moira Lynch’s crestfallen expression, Hugh Finch calmly walked to her side and began to speak. "The boss, Kai York, and I—we came to that residential complex from the very beginning specifically for you."
Hearing this, Moira Lynch whipped her head around, her pretty eyes wide with astonishment. "Then does that mean... all of you know?"
’Doesn’t that make my whole act for the past however long look like a pathetic joke to them?!’
Moira Lynch’s eyes narrowed, a dangerous light glinting within them. ’It’s probably not too late to silence him permanently.’
As if sensing the danger, Hugh Finch quickly said, "No, it’s only ever been me who knew. You know my talent is Divination. The moment I awakened it, I performed a divination on the future of the three of us. It showed that our future would only be smooth sailing if we moved into your residential complex."
"Otherwise, we were likely to face all sorts of dangers."
"I didn’t suspect you were SoySauceDrunkard at first. It was only after my talent reached level three and I unlocked the Heavenly Eye that I started seeing things normal people can’t."
Hearing Hugh Finch’s words, Moira Lynch asked, "’Things normal people can’t see’... Don’t tell me you saw my game ID over my head or something."
Hugh Finch gave Moira Lynch an exasperated look. "This is the Heavenly Eye we’re talking about. You think it shows me something that mundane? It was a golden light. I saw a golden light. Your whole body was shimmering, like a little golden statue. That’s when I started connecting you with SoySauceDrunkard."
"Then, I found an item in the System Mall that could disguise one’s identity, so..."
"I can’t believe that’s how I got exposed."
’Then again, it’s not like I thought I could keep my identity a secret forever.’
"Honestly, besides all that, the clues you left in your daily life were pretty obvious too. It’s just that the boss and the others never thought to connect the dots."
Even Hugh Finch himself had only put all the pieces together after seeing that identity-disguising item.
’The items in the "Don’t Miss It" shop were always in high demand, yet they managed to get what they wanted every single time. Thinking back, Moira must have given them backdoor access. And his Prophetic Robe...’
"I just did it to avoid some trouble, that’s all."
Hugh Finch nodded in understanding. "You were right to do it."
’If it were him, he would have done the same.’
"By the way, besides you, Shane Rhodes and Kai York don’t know, do they?"
Hugh Finch shook his head. "They don’t. Before now, it was just a hunch, so I didn’t tell either of them. Are you going to keep it from them?"
Moira Lynch nodded. "Yeah, let’s. We’ll see how long it takes them to figure it out."
After saying that, she turned to Hugh Finch. "And you’re not allowed to give them any hints."
"Fair enough."
’You had to respect the person’s wishes in a situation like this.’
’As for the boss and Kai York, it was just a matter of time before they wised up.’
Seeing Moira Lynch collect a mountain of junk with a mere wave of her hand, Hugh Finch was absolutely certain this was something no Space Button could accomplish.
’Plenty of people had wondered how SoySauceDrunkard managed to bring so many supplies back from the game. Now, it seemed, he had the answer.’
"Moira, what exactly is your talent?" Hugh Finch asked curiously. "If you don’t want to talk about it, just pretend I never asked."
"My primary talent is a mutated psionic-spatial talent."
’Moira Lynch didn’t tell him everything about her space, only that it was her talent. In any case, the space was already one with her, so calling it a talent wasn’t exactly a lie.’
After she finished, Hugh Finch’s expression was one of sudden enlightenment. ’No wonder she could bring back so much stuff.’
Having gotten the answer he wanted, Hugh Finch started to help out.
"Oh, right. I saw a Tin Can Mountain over there earlier. It looked like pet food, but judging by the dates, it shouldn’t be expired."
Hugh Finch had arrived at the waste processing plant before her. When he’d seen the Tin Can Mountain, he couldn’t resist taking a good amount for himself, filling his Space Button to the brim before going to find Moira Lynch.
