Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 386 - 376: Getting SickMoira looked at the people, then at the price of the game pods.
Although she had brought back quite a few game pods from the game, they all had minor flaws.
These minor flaws didn’t affect their functionality, but... she shouldn’t have to settle, right?
’As the second-richest person on Caelus and the mysterious player, SoySauceDrunkard, don’t I deserve a brand-new game pod?’
But the moment Moira saw the price of the game pods, that thought vanished into thin air.
’Deserve one? Who cares. As long as the game pod works, it’s fine. No need to be picky.’
The [flrst] store had actually raised the price of the game pods by a full ten times.
’At this price, you might as well just rob someone.’
"Master, if you report this to the Federation now, this store will be shut down within three minutes."
Patience quietly suggested to Moira.
Moira refused. "No, let’s just leave it. Once my stock of game pods goes on sale tomorrow, the prices here will naturally drop."
The [flrst] store dared to set such a brazen price because they were banking on being the only game in town.
Aside from them, no one else could get their hands on game pods.
’They’ll probably learn their lesson after they’re put in their place tomorrow.’
After exiting the [flrst] store, Moira lay on her bed as a wave of sleepiness washed over her.
Without Moira noticing, a white fog began to form outside, growing thicker with time.
As the fog was about to encroach upon the house, it was held back by the Elf Tree House’s barrier.
The Treasure Chicken and Snow Duck hid in their shelters, shivering uncontrollably, as if something terrifying lurked within the white fog. The entire world fell exceptionally quiet.
Meanwhile, Moira was already fast asleep.
She slept until the following afternoon.
Moira woke up in a daze. The moment she sat up, her head felt heavy and groggy.
Losing her balance, she tumbled back onto the bed.
’Am I sick?’
’That can’t be right.’
’Theoretically, my constitution has been strengthened countless times over. How could I possibly get sick?’
’Besides, even if I were sick, there would have to be a reason. I didn’t get caught in a draft, and I didn’t take a cold shower.’
"Patience, run a diagnostic on my physical condition."
"Running diagnostic...
Diagnostic complete."
"What are the results?"
"You are in good health. Your vitals are elevated above their normal state. The fever is likely a result of overexertion. Recommending a suitable medicine now."
After taking the medicine Patience recommended, Moira instantly felt much better.
It was only then that she noticed her body and the sheets were clammy.
She must have sweated in her sleep.
After getting up to change the sheets, Moira stretched lazily and then went to the bathroom for a shower.
When she came downstairs, the breakfast and lunch that had been left for her were still on the table.
Seeing her, Kai York said, "If you hadn’t come down soon, we would’ve thought we needed to save dinner for you, too."
Shane Rhodes noticed Moira didn’t look well. "You look so pale," he asked. "Are you not feeling well?"
Even though the medicine had helped a lot, Moira still looked lethargic. She nodded and said, "I have a bit of a fever."
Hearing Moira say she had a fever, Kai York asked, "A fever? Did you take any medicine?"
"I just took some," Moira said, glancing at the breakfast and lunch on the table. She didn’t have much of an appetite.
"Is there anything spicy? I want to eat something spicy to sweat it out."
"Sure, I’ll make you some spicy pepper soup."
With that, Shane Rhodes turned and headed for the kitchen.
"And I’ll have two soft-boiled eggs, please," Moira added with a smile.
"We have exactly two eggs left from what we collected from the coop this morning. I’ll make them for you."
Moira sat down on the sofa, her eyes vacant and dull, like an exquisite porcelain doll.
Kai York brought a cup of warm water from the kitchen and placed it in front of Moira. He then opened up the game interface, staring at it with a hesitant and conflicted expression.
Noticing his expression, Moira asked curiously, "What are you looking at?"
"SoySauceDrunkard’s shop just listed new game wristbands, game helmets, and game pods. I’m trying to decide which one to buy. The wristband is one hundred Gold Coins, the helmet is one thousand, and the pod is ten thousand."
"If you’re going to get one, get the best. It’s not like you can’t afford it," Moira said, curled up on the sofa.
"But it says here they all have flaws." A conflicted look appeared on Kai York’s face. "But what if I don’t buy one now and can’t get one later?"
"Then compromise. Get the game helmet."
"By the way, Moira, you know the [flrst] store, right? Yesterday, right after the game maintenance ended, they rushed to list game pods and priced them at a cool ten million Gold Coins each."
"Ten million! The nerve of them to ask for that much. And they claimed their game pods were one-of-a-kind."
As he said this, a gloating expression spread across Kai York’s face.
He had gone to the [flrst] store yesterday and seen the game pods. All he did was mention the price was too high, and they’d looked down on him for it.
Now, seeing the [flrst] store get taken down a peg, he was absolutely delighted.
"Ten million Gold Coins... surely no one bought one, right?"
"Of course not. Who would want to be that much of a sucker? People aren’t stupid. Everyone was just there for the spectacle. In reality, they were all waiting for SoySauceDrunkard’s shop to open."
"The [flrst] store thought they were the only game in town, that SoySauceDrunkard wouldn’t be able to get any game pods. But in the end, not only did that shop get pods, they also got wristbands and helmets. They were so thoroughly embarrassed that they changed their prices overnight."
"Guess how much they changed it to?"
Moira thought for a moment. "It has to be over ten thousand, since the ones in [Don’t Miss It] are listed as flawed."
"Fifteen thousand Gold Coins. But not many people are buying. Besides, most of the game pods in the [Don’t Miss It] shop just have cosmetic flaws. I heard there are even a lot of custom models."
Just as the two were talking, Hugh Finch walked out of his room. A small white snake was coiled on his shoulder, its eyes closed as if in meditation.
Seeing Moira on the sofa with her hair down, still in her pajamas and barefoot, Hugh Finch stated, "You’re not well."
"A bit of a fever, but I’ve already taken some medicine. Is that your Spiritual Body on your shoulder?"
Moira looked at the small white snake on Hugh’s shoulder. Its body was like white jade, adorned with beautiful purple markings.
However, Moira had always preferred to admire creatures like snakes from a distance. It wasn’t that she disliked them—she wasn’t scared of them in videos—but seeing one in real life gave her the creeps.
