Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 519 - 509: Saving Ariel 2Moira Lynch didn’t pay much attention to these people. Instead, she focused on carefully selecting the supplies she would take.
She had already taken a look. Besides the water she had just collected, there were also food, medicine, and even weapons.
At the same time, Moira Lynch also noticed something on the crates that looked like a signal.
Water had one bar, food had two, medicine had three, and weapons had four.
’Patience, what does this symbol mean?’
These were all relief supplies, so anything on the crates had to be important.
This is a danger marking. During transport, these supply crates emit a faint fluctuation that humans can’t hear. However, it can be detected by machines or certain sensitive creatures. Once discovered, those creatures will attack without hesitation to claim the supplies for themselves.
Research shows that the fluctuations emitted by the supply crates are extremely attractive to these creatures.
The more danger markings there are, the stronger the fluctuations and the more dangerous the crate is to transport.
I recommend you carry more medicine. Based on experience, medicine is crucial in situations like this, even more so than food and water. Plus, medicine is safer than weapons.
After hearing Patience’s explanation, Moira Lynch decided to take more medicine.
Just as she was about to make her move, a commotion suddenly broke out not far away.
A closer look revealed two players arguing over a crate.
It started when someone discovered a notice posted on the wall.
It couldn’t really be called a notice; it was more like a pay slip.
Transporting a water supply crate was ten Gold Coins each.
Transporting a food supply crate was one hundred Gold Coins each.
Transporting a medicine supply crate was one thousand Gold Coins each.
And transporting a weapon supply crate was ten thousand Gold Coins each.
For players who could typically only scrape together a few Gold Coins, or even just silver coins, per game, how could such prices not drive them into a frenzy?
Almost everyone wanted to carry more weapon resource crates.
As a result, there weren’t enough weapon resource crates to go around.
Seeing this, Moira Lynch didn’t go to watch the commotion like the others. Instead, she immediately averted her gaze and walked deeper into the warehouse.
No one had come to this area yet, so she could collect supplies without worry.
’It’s not that I haven’t thought about telling them about the danger markings.’
’But it’s uncertain if they would believe me. They probably wouldn’t. They might even suspect I have ulterior motives, especially since I’ve taken quite a few crates myself.’
’I can’t just tell them I’m not afraid because I have extra storage space, can I?’
’So, it’s better to just forget it.’
’These players who have survived this long are no weaklings. Everyone has their own rules for survival. I should just look out for myself.’
However, she had Patience inform Shane Rhodes, Kai York, and Hugh Finch about the matter.
In the end, while no one was paying attention, Moira Lynch took one hundred crates of medical supplies, fifty crates each of water and food, and thirty crates of weapons from the deepest part of the warehouse.
With so many supplies gone in an instant, a corner of the warehouse was completely empty.
However, the other supply crates concealed the empty space, so no one noticed.
The players were still fighting endlessly over the weapon crates. Some, realizing they couldn’t win, shifted their focus to the medical crates, sparking another fierce scramble.
Under these circumstances, Moira Lynch quietly prepared to leave.
To avoid arousing suspicion, Moira even carried a resource crate as she prepared to leave.
She tied the resource crate with a rope and slung it onto her back.
Anyone who saw this would assume her Space Button was full and that, not wanting to leave empty-handed, she was carrying an extra crate on her back.
When the players saw that Moira Lynch was carrying a water resource crate, they paid her no mind.
And so, Moira Lynch left without any trouble.
Before leaving, Moira Lynch also discovered another notice posted inside the warehouse.
[Attention: Escorts must not open or use the contents of the resource crates before completing the mission, nor can they claim them as their own. Violators will face severe punishment and imprisonment. Do not try your luck.]
’So that’s how it is. No wonder they told us to prepare our own supplies. No wonder the system gave us a heads-up.’
’Considering the current situation on Ariel Planet, without that advance warning, probably only the well-stocked players would have brought food. Few of the others would have been able to last until the end of the game.’
’After all, everyone enters the game just to make a living.’
’It’s a once-a-month opportunity. It would feel like a waste not to bring something back.’
After Moira Lynch left the warehouse, a black, spherical Flying Cabin appeared before her.
The cockpit door opened automatically, revealing space for exactly one person inside.
Looking at the resource crate on her back, Moira Lynch put it into her Space Button, then squeezed herself into the cockpit.
Just as Moira Lynch was worrying about how to pilot it, she discovered that the Flying Cabin was fully automated. It had already locked onto Ariel Planet; she just needed to sit inside and wait.
With a shudder, the machine started up.
Immediately after, an electronic voice sounded.
[Flying Cabin activated. Target locked: Ariel Planet. As the cities on Ariel Planet have been overrun, this machine will automatically lock onto a landing site to prevent the escort from being surrounded.]
Following that, Moira Lynch felt a wave of dizziness.
’Am I... motion sick?’
After a long hour, Moira Lynch finally felt the Flying Device slowly landing.
As the cabin door opened, a foul stench assaulted her from all directions.
Stepping out, Moira Lynch looked around, a speechless expression on her face. ’If I’m not mistaken, this must be a junkyard. This Flying Device sure knows how to pick a landing spot.’
A closer look revealed quite a lot of stuff here, though most of it was broken and dilapidated. There were even animal carcasses, making it very different from the junkyards she had seen before.
Normally, Moira Lynch wouldn’t mind "treasure hunting" here, but right now, completing the mission was more important.
Before leaving, Moira Lynch put the Flying Device into her spatial storage.
’This thing is a one-time-use, disposable item. But mine is in perfect condition on the outside. It should sell for a good price if I take it back.’
After leaving the junkyard, Moira Lynch quickly encountered a new problem.
’Which way should I go now?’
Previous games had hints, like an arrow on the back of her hand pointing to the mission location. But this time, there was nothing.
Patience could copy a map, but the problem was she couldn’t quite understand it. Besides, in a situation like this, a map might not even be useful.
