Apocalypse Arrives: I Become a Powerhouse by Scavenging
Chapter 524 - 514: Saving Ariel 7Having witnessed their frantic work, Moira Lynch felt a deep sense of sympathy for the exhaustion in their eyes.
Since she didn’t know when rescue might arrive, Moira left them a considerable amount of food, water, and medicine. She also left behind some weapons so they could protect themselves.
This action consumed a significant portion of Moira’s supplies, bringing her ever closer to completing her mission objective.
Just as she was about to leave, an old, raspy voice suddenly called out to her.
"Young lady, please wait. I have something I’d like to ask for your help with."
Moira turned at the sound of the voice and saw a pale-faced old man. His cloudy eyes were fixed on her, filled with an expression she couldn’t quite decipher.
Moira stopped and walked over to the old man. "Is there something I can help you with?" she asked.
She recognized him. He was one of the patients she had just pulled back from the brink of death.
The old man looked at Moira, not answering her question directly. Instead, he asked, "Are you a Healing Mage?"
Moira shook her head. "Not yet."
’Not yet, but who knows about the future.’
The old man was slightly taken aback by Moira’s answer, but then, as if something had occurred to him, he murmured to himself, "That’s right. How could a Healing Mage possibly be an escort?"
"But, young lady, that healing you performed just now pulled us old folks back from death’s door. Your talent must be extraordinary. When you do become a Healing Mage, your rank won’t be low. Your future is limitless."
No one dislikes a good compliment, and Moira was no exception. However, she remained level-headed, not letting herself get carried away by his praise.
A faint smile touched her lips. "Why don’t you get straight to the point? I have a mission to complete, and I can’t stay here for long."
Seeing how direct Moira was, the old man stopped beating around the bush. "I want you to treat me again," he said, getting straight to the point. "And if possible, I want you to cure my illness completely."
Meeting his eyes, which were filled with a desperate craving for life, Moira paused. She subconsciously scanned him with her spiritual power.
She quickly got a general understanding of his condition.
’Well, he’s definitely sick, and seriously so. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been on the verge of death just now.’
’But most of his ailments are simply due to old age.’
’He didn’t take care of himself in his youth, and now that he’s old, all the problems that were brewing have erupted at once.’
’Could she cure something like this?’
’Honestly, yes, she could. But it would require her to reveal her true abilities.’
’Besides, a complete cure wouldn’t be simple. Moira estimated it would take at least three comprehensive treatments to heal him completely.’
’But this clearly wasn’t the right time or place for that kind of treatment.’
’And he hadn’t mentioned any payment. She wasn’t willing to do it for free.’
Seeing Moira’s impassive expression, the old man immediately realized the issue and quickly added, "If you can cure me, I am willing to give you half of my assets."
"How much are your assets worth?" Moira asked.
’If it’s enough, I might consider it. But if it’s a small amount, forget it. The feeling of overtaxing my abilities is terrible.’
Hearing Moira’s question, a look of delighted surprise flashed in the old man’s eyes.
’She didn’t say she couldn’t do it. She asked how much I’m worth! That can only mean one thing... this person in front of me really can cure me!!’
He was willing to pay any price, as long as she could cure him and let him live.
’It seems that person’s divination was correct. Coming here really was my only hope.’
As for that half of his assets, the old man was confident the amount would satisfy her.
"My assets are too extensive to list out loud; it would take ages. I have a document prepared with a detailed breakdown. You can take a look. Also, here is my contact information."
With that, the old man handed her a blue and gold business card.
"I know you escorts are on a mission, and this isn’t the place for treatment anyway. Besides, thanks to your earlier healing, this old man can hold on for a while longer. So, there’s no rush. You can take your time."
Moira merely glanced at the first page and was stunned by what she saw.
The first page of the document boldly declared: 800 planets!
’She couldn’t help but gulp. Planets! Not eight, not eighty, but a full eight hundred of them.’
’And that was just a fraction of his assets.’
She couldn’t help but glance at the old man. ’I can’t believe this old man is so wealthy.’
Of course, Moira didn’t assume all eight hundred planets were valuable, but the sheer number was staggering.
Moira struggled to keep the corners of her mouth from turning up into a grin, repeatedly telling herself to stay calm.
After a long moment, once Moira had composed herself, she said to the old man, "You’re very generous, sir. I’ll take the job. I just hope you won’t go back on your word."
As she spoke, a white feather appeared in her hand. "Consider this a token. I’ll contact you when my mission is over."
The feather was from one of Moira’s wings and contained a small portion of her spiritual power, allowing her to monitor the old man’s physical condition.
To prevent the old man from kicking the bucket before her mission was over, Moira gave him another dose of healing before she left.
As the ball of white flame entered his body, the old man felt a sense of ease he hadn’t experienced in a very long time.
This further solidified his conviction that he had found the right person.
With the deal struck, Moira looked expectantly at the other patients. But clearly, they lacked the old man’s boldness—or rather, his financial resources.
’Oh well. If that’s how it is, then forget it.’
As Moira left the hospital, her steps were noticeably lighter, a clear sign of her good mood. She never expected to reap such a harvest while just completing a game task.
’Looks like I can’t give up on this game. Where else would I run into such a lucky break?’
Afterward, even the fact that she didn’t find any more survivors couldn’t dampen Moira’s high spirits.
After all, she had used up a good deal of her supplies back at the hospital.
Feeling a pang of hunger, Moira decided to find something to eat before moving on.
