He scaled the canyon wall with effortless agility, claws digging into stone. Below him, the dense tide of mutated beasts thundered past, charging deeper into the canyon in another direction.
Axel’s three eyes narrowed.
Let’s see what those bastards are really up to.
.....
Elsewhere, Isos and Valentino’s men were also on the run.
These teams specialized in wilderness reconnaissance; escape routes were second nature to them. Riding snow wolves known for their speed and endurance, they used the terrain masterfully, opening up a solid gap between themselves and the pursuing beasts.
But a Level Two mutated beast was still a Level Two.
As more Level Three and higher mutated beasts joined the chase, the distance began to close—slowly, inexorably.
“Boss! They’re gaining on us!” a subordinate shouted.
Harris glanced back sharply. “Are they still locked on us?”
“…No!”
After confirming again, Harris and Watson exchanged a look and abruptly reined in their wolves.
The mutated beasts continued their charge.
Then—
Harris’s pupils changed.
They became unnervingly narrow, vertical slits—almost identical to the eyes of the snow wolf beneath him.
The wolf suddenly raised its head and released a low, furious howl.
It wasn’t loud. Compared to the thunderous roars of the pursuing horde, it was insignificant.
And yet—
The mutated beasts froze.
Shock rippled through them. Even fear.
“Awooo…”
The snow wolf howled again.
This time, the entire herd—mixed with several Level Five mutated beasts—abruptly turned and charged off in a completely different direction, vanishing into the wilderness.
As the dust settled, Harris’s group finally relaxed, breathing heavily. No one looked surprised.
This was something they’d prepared long ago.
“What a waste…” Harris muttered, stroking the snow wolf’s head. “We’ve exposed our trump card. No choice but to abandon it now.”
Watson frowned. “So what’s next? Yehuda’s on one side, the others on the other. Who do we hit?”
Harris hesitated only a second before answering decisively.
“Kill Yehuda.”
“The commander said he’s the real leader—the one who secretly contacted Saka. The others are dangerous, but he’s the core of the Vicious Dog Hunters.”
Watson nodded slowly. “Then… let’s do it.”
They turned their wolves and sped back toward Moonlit Lake.
They rushed past the lake’s perimeter and veered into a canyon behind it. The concentration of Force in the air shifted sharply, dense and oppressive.
That was because many of the Level Five and Level Six mutated beasts from the Moonlit Lake region had gathered here.
“…Shit.”
At the end of the canyon lay a small pool of water.
Beside it, five massive wolf-like beasts slowly rose to their feet.
Their enormous bodies were jet black, streaked with snow-white patterns that shimmered faintly in the light. Their presence alone crushed the air.
Snow-Striped Gray Wolf Squad. Level Six mutated beasts.
Even among Level Six, they were monsters.
“Awooo…”
Harris’s expression tightened. His pupils shifted again.
As they changed, the snow wolf beneath him let out another low howl.
The five Snow-Striped Gray Wolves immediately rose and lunged forward!
Despite being prepared, Harris’s men still went pale as those titanic figures closed in. Harris himself looked worst of all—his Force was draining rapidly, and the Awakening Skill he was using was dangerously unstable.
Harris was a mental-type Awakener.
His Awakening Skill was called Eye of the Beast King.
Against humans, it only caused intimidation or mental shock—useful, but nothing extraordinary.
But against beasts?
He could directly seize control of one.
The snow wolf beneath him was his anchor.
“I’ll back you up!” Watson said, placing a hand on Harris’s shoulder.
Awakening Skill — Enhance!
Watson’s ability amplified the effect of another person’s Awakening Skill itself—a rare and powerful form of support, fundamentally different from Axel’s.
With Watson reinforcing him, Harris finally stabilized the connection.
“Awoo… awoo…”
The snow wolf lowered its head and howled softly.
The five Snow-Striped Gray Wolves froze, astonishment flashing across their feral faces.
Then—
“Awoo! Awoo!”
The snow wolf suddenly howled violently, emotion surging through its voice.
“ROOOAR!”
The five massive wolves threw back their heads and roared to the heavens in unison.
The sound rolled across the land like thunder.
Across the entire Moonlit Lake region, mutated beasts stirred—alerted, agitated, answering the call.
......
“What the hell is going on?!”
“These beasts—are they going berserk?!”
Sergio and his team, who had been maintaining a steady rhythm while kiting the horde, all felt a chill run straight down their spines as that piercing, unnatural howl tore through the air.
The mutated beasts behind them suddenly went feral.
Several high-level creatures surged forward in a frenzy, nearly slamming Terrence off his feet.
And then—something even stranger happened.
After a brief but violent outburst, the entire horde abruptly turned around and charged back toward Moonlit Lake, not sparing so much as a backward glance.
Sergio’s instincts kicked in instantly. He raised a hand.
A massive circular wind field exploded into existence, spiraling violently.
Awakening Skill — Storm Prison!
This was his signature control technique. The compressed storm divided the battlefield, trapping clusters of mutated beasts inside. Low-level creatures were shredded almost instantly, torn apart by the savage winds.
But it wasn’t enough.
Even more beasts surged past the storm barrier, racing toward Moonlit Lake.
Kenneth’s cloak snapped violently as countless mechanical constructs materialized around him, black muzzles tracking the retreating beasts. When it came to large-scale slaughter, no one here could match him.
“Wait!” Sergio barked. “Stop!”
Kenneth froze.
“Something’s wrong.”
Almost at the same time, everyone felt it.
A bone-deep chill—cold, cruel, absolute—washed over them.
“…The north?” someone whispered.
Every head snapped up.
“What the hell is happening?!”
“Is it him?!”
Outside the southern gate of the City of Sin, the commanders jolted upright, instincts screaming as they prepared to abandon their troops and retreat inside the city.
They knew that aura. Too well.
“How is this possible…” Caroline said, her face drained of color. “Before Lord Morris left, he said that being wouldn’t act anytime soon…”
Quinlan was visibly shaking. “Sh-should we go back?”
Penny swallowed hard and turned to Saka. “Darling…”
Saka placed a hand on her shoulder, his voice ice-cold.
“Go back? Go back and wait to die?”
“Without Lord Morris, do you really think we can stop that thing?” he continued flatly. “We move faster. Get everyone out. Now.”
The other commanders and Level Six Awakened hesitated—but only for a moment.
He was right.
“Move!” Adler urged hoarsely, his aged face pale as a corpse. “The faster, the better!”
Unnoticed by the others, Isos and Valentino exchanged a glance and leaned closer, voices barely above a whisper.
“Is that side reliable?”
“No problem,” Valentino muttered. “If that being were really making a move, we’d already be dead.”
“…Then let’s watch.” Isos’s lips curled slightly. “That Yehuda’s probably finished this time.”
Their gazes drifted south.
.....
Even though he’d expected something like this, the scene before him still made Watson’s scalp prickle.
Harris was drenched in sweat, his expression taut with concentration.
He had already dismounted, activating his Awakening Skill while slowly urging the snow wolf forward.
“Awooo… awooo…”
The wolf’s howls were low and mournful, tinged with grievance.
The five Snow-Patterned Gray Wolves responded immediately, their voices sharp with rage.
“Quick,” Watson whispered urgently. “Tell them where Yehuda is.”
Harris didn’t respond.
His eyes glowed faintly as he fully activated his Awakening Skill—Eye of the Beast King.
Through it, his consciousness flowed directly into the snow wolf. The wolf growled repeatedly, shaking its head before pointing toward a specific direction.
The Snow-Patterned Gray Wolves tensed, muscles coiling, ready to strike. And then—
“Awooo!”
A sharp cry split the air.
A massive shadow dropped from the canyon wall, slamming into the ground between the snow wolf and the Snow-Patterned Gray Wolves.
The impact shook the earth.
Harris and Watson recoiled in horror.
“A Terrorclaw Demon Wolf?!” Watson gasped.
“A Level Seven?!”
“Don’t panic!” Harris snapped, grabbing his arm. “Don’t move!”
“Even if it’s Level Seven, it’s still a wolf-type!” he hissed. “As long as we’ve got this little one, we can manage!”
