Apocalypse Descends: I Win Effortlessly by Turning Trash into Treasure
Chapter 133: Island Royale 2Just then, the players who had been forced to resurrect for a second time were glaring angrily at the group who had just struggled ashore.
One of them, a burly, bearded man with tattooed arms, stared at them furiously and demanded, "Spit it out! Who the hell just ambushed me!"
The instructions given to the non-Dealer Players were different from those given to the Dealer Players.
Just as Perry Yates had predicted, their mission was to hunt down the Croupiers.
If they could successfully kill a Croupier, the player who did so would inherit everything from their target and, after the game ended, would be granted an opportunity to have a wish fulfilled.
Under normal circumstances, with ten people against one hundred and ninety, their side held an absolute advantage. Not to mention, they also had two chances to resurrect.
However, what they hadn’t expected was for the plane to explode, taking all of them out in one fell swoop.
While it ultimately didn’t result in any true casualties, it did waste one of their resurrection chances.
But, everyone was in the same boat, so no one felt particularly aggrieved. At most, they just complained about their bad luck and how ruthless those Croupiers were, grumbling that they were clearly not good people.
But just now, they had been assassinated one after another. They were killed before they could even react.
Not only had they used up their final chance to resurrect, but their three Replication Cards were also gone.
The man being questioned by the burly tattooed man was a professional type in a suit.
The man had just crawled out of the sea and was utterly exhausted. He couldn’t be bothered to respond to the tattooed man’s interrogation.
However, seeing the tattooed man’s crazed expression, the professional knew the guy wouldn’t let it go if he didn’t say something.
He noticed it wasn’t just the tattooed man, either. The expressions on the faces of the other resurrected players were all grim.
He struggled to prop himself up and said to the tattooed man, "I don’t know who killed you, but it definitely wasn’t me."
"Even if it wasn’t you, the killer must be hiding among you."
As he spoke, his beady eyes swept over everyone, and his ferocious expression sent a shiver down their spines.
"I know you’re all anxious right now, but try to stay calm. After what just happened, I’m sure you all understand that we’re not dealing with ordinary people."
At that moment, the short-haired career woman who had been sitting next to Perry Yates spoke up calmly.
She was also one of the people Perry Yates had eliminated.
"Then what do you suggest we do now?" the tattooed man asked, his voice low.
"We unite, of course. Only by uniting do we have a chance of winning." As the woman spoke, her gaze swept over everyone, a sharp glint in her eyes. "First, let’s get a headcount."
No one objected.
After counting, there were only one hundred and ninety-five people present in total.
Seeing this number, the woman frowned. The five missing people could only be the Dealer Players the game system had mentioned. After all, all the normal players had Resurrection Cards.
"The Dealer Players don’t have Resurrection Cards. They probably died in the plane explosion," a girl with a jellyfish haircut whispered.
"Those Dealer Players caused the plane to explode. You think they’d die in it? They’re probably just hiding," the professional-looking man said with conviction.
"Also, there are one hundred and ninety-five of us here. That means five Dealer Players are mixed in with us."
As he spoke, the man scanned everyone’s faces, trying not to miss a single expression.
Unfortunately, he didn’t have a photographic memory or keen powers of observation. After staring for a long time, he came up with nothing.
"Actually, we can all work together. I’m talking to the five Dealer Players now. Our main mission is to survive on this island for thirty days. That’s what’s most important.
After all, we have no personal grudges against each other, and I’d rather not get blood on my hands, you know?
If you come forward now, I can guarantee that we absolutely will not harm you.
Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. My name is Eleanor. I’m a partner at a law firm. I never lie, so you can trust me."
As she spoke, a confident smile spread across Eleanor’s face.
’What’s she up to? Trying to win them over with her charm?’
Perry Yates looked at Eleanor’s confident smile and was involuntarily reminded of her internship at a company right after college graduation.
The bosses at that company wore the exact same expression when they were making empty promises to their employees.
They acted like they were so charismatic, but in reality, the employees’ faces were a sea of numb expressions, each one more vacant than the last.
But, despite her internal snark, Perry Yates’s expression remained just as blank as everyone else’s.
Not getting the response she wanted, Eleanor’s expression turned ugly, her eyes practically shooting fire.
"Fine. If you won’t come out, then so be it."
Her expression seemed to say, ’You don’t know what’s good for you.’
With five Dealer Players mixed into the crowd, everyone became much more cautious in their interactions with one another.
Everyone was harboring their own little schemes.
Because of the plane explosion, all their luggage was gone. Now, they had nothing but the clothes on their backs.
So, despite the mistrust among them, they had no choice but to work together.
Dealer Players, normal players—none of that mattered. Right now, their most pressing concerns were how to get through the day and what they were going to eat.
After swimming in the sea for so long, they were all starving and parched.
Perry Yates was assigned the task of gathering firewood.
The island’s forest was dense, and firewood was everywhere, so she didn’t have to search too hard.
While gathering firewood, Perry Yates contemplated the current game.
’Honestly, after the initial shock of the plane explosion and my own assassinations in the sea, I feel like I might have overestimated these people.’
’The Resurrection Cards existed, yes, but how long has it been? Not even the first day of the game is over, yet many have already used up their chance to resurrect for good. And I’ve even managed to acquire quite a few Resurrection Cards from them.’
’At this rate, I’m confident I can eliminate everyone by tonight.’
’Sleeping Cloud Mist, anyone?’
’The game favors the Croupiers.’
Perry Yates mulled over that sentence. ’It means the game system is on the Croupiers’ side. The ones we need to be wary of are the Executors.’
’Whatever, I’ll just wait and see. But I have to get my hands on those Replication Cards tonight.’
While Perry Yates was gathering firewood, she occasionally spotted mushrooms growing in the grass and subconsciously wanted to pick them, to stockpile supplies for the game ahead.
