By the time Perry Yates awoke, it was already noon the next day.

Pushing herself up from the soft, large bed, Perry Yates supported herself with one hand while clutching her head with the other.

"Ngh... What happened to me?"

Soon, the memories of what happened before she passed out flooded her mind.

Just then, the door creaked open, and a butler in a tailcoat entered, carrying a tray with a steaming hot meal.

"Master, you’re awake. Please, have something to eat. You’ve just awakened your Spiritual Body and need to replenish a great deal of energy."

At the mention of those two words, "Spiritual Body," Perry Yates’s consciousness finally cleared.

After taking the tray from the butler, Perry Yates didn’t eat right away. Instead, she asked, "What is my Spiritual Body?"

In response to Perry Yates’s question, the butler pointed up. There, against the stark white ceiling, a brilliant red butterfly shone dazzlingly.

"A butterfly?"

Perry Yates couldn’t help but feel a pang of disappointment. After all, in the novels she’d read, the type of Spiritual Body one had was a direct indicator of their combat strength.

For instance, those with Spiritual Bodies like lions, leopards, or tigers were usually the powerhouses of the story, the very ceiling of combat prowess.

Meanwhile, those with seemingly docile forms, like rabbits or koalas, tended to have average combat strength, their abilities leaning more toward support than fighting.

Judging by appearances alone, her butterfly Spiritual Body definitely seemed to fall into the latter category.

The butler noticed the disappointment in Perry Yates’s eyes. "You seem displeased with your Spiritual Body," he observed.

Hearing this, Perry Yates took a bite of food from her tray and waved a dismissive hand, her words muffled. "It’s not that I’m dissatisfied."

After all, as someone with a weakness for beautiful things, the butterfly Spiritual Body was a perfect match for her aesthetic tastes.

’It’s just a little surprising. I always thought my combat strength was pretty high, and my Card Level is decent, too. I figured even if I didn’t get a tiger or a lion, I’d at least awaken something like a Cannibal Flower.’

But instead, she got a butterfly.

After hearing Perry Yates’s explanation, the butler understood. He smiled and said, "Master, you may not be aware, but while a Spiritual Body is indeed influenced by your cards, that influence is mostly reflected in its attributes. The greatest factor in determining a Spiritual Body’s form is actually the owner’s personality."

"People who awaken fierce beasts as their Spiritual Bodies must, by their very nature, possess a warlike personality."

The implication being that Perry Yates’s personality wasn’t aggressive enough.

Perry Yates didn’t argue the point. Her personality certainly wasn’t what you would call aggressive.

"Well, in that case, I suppose I’m lucky I didn’t awaken a salted fish or a sloth."

The butler’s explanation instantly swept away Perry Yates’s earlier gloom.

’He has a point. It’s not like I enjoy fighting, so a fierce beast for a Spiritual Body would be useless anyway. When I think about it that way, a butterfly isn’t so bad. It’s beautiful, small, and nimble.’

’Besides, who’s to say butterflies are necessarily fragile?’

Perry Yates raised her hand, and the red butterfly obediently fluttered down from the ceiling to land in her palm.

After learning a bit more about Spiritual Bodies from the butler, Perry Yates dismissed her butterfly and made her way to the top floor.

After its Ascension to Level Five, the Holy Maiden Fruit Tree could only produce ten Holy Girl Fruits at a time, once every month.

In other words, Perry Yates could now get ten Holy Girl Fruits every time she finished a game.

She had already eaten one yesterday, so the Holy Girl Fruits were no longer effective on her. She could still eat them, but it would be just like eating ordinary cherry tomatoes—a bit juicier, at most.

Perry Yates plucked the remaining nine fruits and carefully placed them in a box.

Just as she was about to turn and leave, the phone in her pocket suddenly rang.

The caller ID didn’t show a name, just a string of numbers. But when Perry Yates saw that number, her expression shifted.

Staring at the vibrating phone, Perry Yates didn’t answer right away. She let it ring over a dozen times before finally tapping the screen to accept the call.

"What do you want?"

Perry Yates’s expression was cold, her tone laced with a hint of impatience.

The person on the other end of the line must have said something, because Perry Yates’s cold expression softened slightly. After a long pause, she finally said, "I understand. I’ll be there."

After hanging up, Perry Yates stepped through a Teleportation Gate to her own apartment.

She had been staying at The Card Tavern recently, so she hadn’t spent much time in this apartment since she bought it. A fine layer of dust now covered everything.

Perry Yates wanted to do a quick clean, but a search of the apartment revealed no cleaning supplies.

’Forget it. I’ll just hire a cleaner to take care of it later.’

「That evening.」

As the Alden Family was a well-known and prestigious local clan, Old Master Alden’s birthday banquet was, naturally, a grand affair.

Old Master Alden loved the sea, but in his old age, he had grown too frail to handle the rough waves. So, to please the patriarch, the Alden Family had specially arranged to hold the banquet on a luxurious cruise ship sailing on the river.

Aside from the slightly remote location, there were no other major issues with the arrangement.

Old Master Alden was already eighty, but he was still robust, keeping a firm grip on the reins of the Alden Group.

Ordinarily, Perry Yates wouldn’t have attended. As a homebody, she wasn’t comfortable in crowded places like this.

But the person on the phone had said it was an order from the Old Master—her presence was required.

Few people knew that Perry Yates’s mother was an Alden—Old Master Alden’s youngest daughter.

Like many wealthy patriarchs who try to break up star-crossed lovers, Old Master Alden had been furious that his daughter had fallen for a poor boy. He had tried every trick in the book to tear them apart.

And, just like in a cliché romance novel, the pressure only made Perry Yates’s parents cling to each other more fiercely, their love growing stronger and more inseparable.

Eventually, Old Master Alden threatened to disown Perry Yates’s mother, but even that didn’t work.

Because of this, Perry Yates had spent her childhood completely unaware she even had such relatives. It was only after her parents’ accident that the Alden Family came knocking.

However, after they found her, Perry Yates only stayed with the Alden Family for a short time before leaving.

The reason was simple: the Alden Family looked down on her. Their attitude—a nauseating "we’ve acknowledged you, so you should be eternally grateful"—was more than Perry Yates could stomach.

She might not have parents, but thanks to the inheritance they’d left her, she could live quite comfortably. ’Why should I stick around and let the Alden Family mistreat me?’

So, after leaving, she unilaterally cut off all contact with the Alden Family.
