Chapter 115: Chapter 114: Don’t Stop! Run
"If you can move, get down here and lead the zombies away! I haven’t even settled the score with you for luring them right into my face!"
Lin Fan backed away, luring the zombies toward Su Qing and the others, while shouting at Wang Yuanhua up in the tree.
One of the Giant-Armed Zombie’s arms had been blown off by Lin Fan. It had lost its balance and was unable to run, only able to stagger unsteadily in Lin Fan’s direction. But it was quickly overtaken by the numerous zombies behind it.
Seeing so many zombies closing in, Lin Fan tried to lead them toward Su Qing’s position, but he couldn’t separate the Giant-Armed Zombie from the rest of the horde.
When Wang Yuanhua heard Lin Fan’s shouts, he began to mull things over. ’I can’t quite remember how I got here,’ he thought, ’but looking at this situation, it’s obvious I’m the one who led this monster here.’
’And I’m still in a tree, so that "leader" must have thrown me up here to keep me from being eaten by zombies while I was unconscious...’
’What... a man of honor!’
Seizing the moment while the zombies hadn’t noticed him, Wang Yuanhua made his decision. He struggled to get up and pushed himself out of the tree!
He landed with a SPLAT on a zombie’s corpse and rolled to the side.
Ignoring the foul blood covering his body, he took a deep breath and scrambled back to his feet.
’One of my arms is definitely useless, and who knows how long it’ll take to recover. My foot is in excruciating pain, but a closer look shows the wound has already closed. The agony inside my body has eased a lot, too. My life isn’t in immediate danger, for now...’
"Lure the zombies over to their position! String out the horde, hand them off to my team, and tell them I ordered it!"
Lin Fan was a bit surprised to see Wang Yuanhua actually get down from the tree. ’He’s a tough bastard,’ he thought.
Although his health was even higher than Chu Zhaotian’s, that was just the constitution of an Awakened One. His body had clearly sustained severe injuries.
Despite his words, Lin Fan had no intention of actually blaming him for the pull. After all, he was the one who had ordered him to lure the zombies in the first place. Whatever Wang Yuanhua brought back, it was Lin Fan’s responsibility to deal with it.
He’d only said it to provoke him. But seeing as Wang Yuanhua was indeed preparing to lead the zombies away again, he was actually doing Lin Fan another favor.
Wang Yuanhua tucked his mangled right arm—dangling limply like a dead snake—inside his jacket and zipped it up. He took a deep breath and roared in Lin Fan’s direction, his voice a hoarse, blood-choked cry.
"Here!"
Seeing his chance, Lin Fan immediately coordinated with him. He activated his Stealth Crystal and leaped backward, clearing four meters in a single bound.
Wang Yuanhua steeled himself. ’I caused this mess,’ he thought. ’No matter what, I have to see it through!’
He had just shouted to attract the zombies when he saw the leader leap backward and vanish into thin air.
’...He ran away?’
Wang Yuanhua’s eyes widened, and for a moment, he was speechless. But then he remembered the man’s words. Gritting his teeth against the searing pain in his foot, he swerved to dodge a lunging zombie and, with the horde in tow, ran toward the building in the distance behind him!
’His teammates are over there. He can’t have just disappeared for good...’
Wang Yuanhua ran faster and faster. The wound on his foot, which had already begun to close, tore open again from the force of his steps, and blood began to seep out.
But he couldn’t spare a thought for the agonizing pain in his foot. The zombies behind him followed relentlessly, trampling his bloody footprints into the ground.
He had chosen his path. The only hope now was to keep moving forward!
The distant dumpster was caked in bloodstains, turning it a dingy, dark gray. One person was missing from within it, and the remaining three gripped their spears, staring nervously in his direction.
"Help... help me!"
The sight of them was like a beacon of hope. He immediately shouted, his throat raw and raspy.
"Sister Qing! I think that’s the big guy!"
Chu Zhaozhao was the first to notice the movement from that direction. She immediately spotted the man and the horde of zombies behind him.
"He’s hurt!"
Su Qing, of course, knew who Chu Zhaozhao was referring to. But as the man drew closer, she saw he was covered in blood, his arm was clearly broken, and he left a bloody footprint with every single step...
"What about Lin Fan?"
Su Qing yelled to the approaching man.
"...Your leader told me to lead the zombies over here! He’s fine!"
Wang Yuanhua explained hurriedly. ’If these people retreat into that metal shell, I’m a dead man!’
Su Qing breathed a sigh of relief to hear that Lin Fan was okay. Lin Fan had gone to find this man, so it made sense that he would have him lead the zombies over.
Su Qing was just about to tell Zhaozhao to raise a part of their "fort" just enough to let him in when her pupils suddenly constricted.
’There are a lot of zombies behind him...’
As he got closer, she saw the dark, crushing mass of several dozen zombies behind Wang Yuanhua. She only hesitated for a second before stamping out that thought.
’The only way to live... was also the cruelest.’
’To repeat the tactic Lin Fan had used earlier!’
In an instant, her expression turned cold and resolute. She suppressed every ounce of sympathy and pity she felt.
"You can’t come over here! Don’t stop! Keep running around us in a wide circle! Don’t stop! Run! Otherwise, we’ll all die!"
’I can’t let him get any closer!’
Even though Wang Yuanhua was covered in blood, practically a cripple, and spoke with a ragged wheeze, Su Qing hardened her heart and relayed the necessary plan to him.
’If dozens of zombies charge us, we can just hide in the dumpster as a last resort. But by then, this Awakened One will be dead for sure!’
’If he made it this far in his condition, he can hold on for a little longer!’
Although Wang Yuanhua felt his body growing heavier, his mind was still clear. He instantly remembered what the leader had been doing when he first kited the zombies away.
’String out the horde, letting them through in smaller groups.’
"...Alright!"
He frowned, realizing something the woman in front of him had said wasn’t quite right.
’We’ll *all* die? No...’
’The truth is, only *I* would die!’
’So I have to do this... if only for my own life!’
At this thought, he narrowed his eyes. Forcing down the pain and gasping for breath, he changed direction and veered to the right.
’Whether I live through this is in the hands of fate now!’
Most of the zombies behind him followed him as he ran off, but a few noticed Su Qing and the others and charged at them.
’Run! Don’t stop! Run!’
Watching his receding figure, Su Qing gritted her teeth and thrust her spear forward, plunging it into a zombie’s eye socket.
...
Lin Fan, with his Stealth Crystal active, was perched in a tree in the greenbelt. As soon as he had leaped out of the zombies’ perception range, he had scrambled up the tree to observe their movements below.
It was only when he saw Wang Yuanhua’s moment of utter confusion that he remembered the Stealth Crystal also made him invisible to other people. ’To him, I must have just vanished...’
’But after that, would he still do as I said...?’
Lin Fan hesitated, wondering if he should reveal himself. But if he did, the Giant-Armed Zombie would surely attack. The ensuing commotion would make it impossible to lead the rest of the horde away.
Just as he was hesitating, he saw Wang Yuanhua pause for only a moment before gritting his teeth and leading the horde toward Su Qing and the others.
*Phew...*
’Good, the plan is still in motion.’
’With thirty or forty zombies to deal with, all I can do is trust my team. I’m sure Su Qing and the others will be fine...’
With a thought, the spear reappeared in Lin Fan’s hand. He held his breath and focused his gaze, watching the Giant-Armed Zombie trail behind the horde from a short distance, staggering southward.
It wasn’t moving as fast as the sprinting zombies, so it was gradually falling behind the main horde, becoming isolated at the rear.
Lin Fan was like a panther coiled in the branches, waiting patiently. He was waiting for the perfect moment—the instant the creature passed the point closest to the base of his tree!
