Apocalypse: I Raised the Ultimate Antagonist from Scratch
Chapter 171: The Command HubThe polished steel floor of the upper corridor reflected the rhythmic, blood-red flicker of emergency strobes, casting long, dramatic shadows against the reinforced bulkheads. Unlike the chaotic, alarm-blaring madness of the lower detention block, this sector was ominously, deathly quiet.
At the far end of the hall, guards stood posted outside the heavy armored doors of the central broadcast hub. Heavy, ballistic armor encased their bodies from neck to boots, and high-frequency shock-batons hung securely from their utility belts alongside sidearms equipped with lethal, power-dampening rounds.
They never even had the chance to unholster them.
Han Zheng and Lin Qing moved in absolute, dead silence, stepping out from the deep shadows of the service shaft like two striking phantoms. Before the guard on the left could react or raise his weapon, Han Zheng closed the distance instantly, his palm striking the soldier’s chest plate with pinpoint precision. A localized, low-frequency kinetic pulse detonated directly through the armor, shattering the guard’s sternum and dropping him instantly into unconsciousness without making a single loud sound against the floor.
Simultaneously, Lin Qing swept smoothly behind the second guard, her left arm wrapping around his windpipe in a precise, ruthless sleeper hold while her boot kicked his knee out from behind. The soldier thrashed once in desperate panic, then went completely limp in her iron grip. She lowered his body silently to the polished floorboards, snatching his keycard off his vest before his boots even settled.
"Clear," Lin Qing whispered, pressing the stolen keycard into the glowing interface panel.
The door hissed open with a release of pneumatic pressure, revealing the cavernous, high-tech Command Hub. Rows of black glass computer banks, satellite control arrays, and holographic mapping terminals lined the perimeter, flickering softly as they ran on auxiliary battery reserves.
Lin Qing strode directly to the main broadcast console. Her fingers flew across the touch-screen controls with effortless speed, rapidly bypassing the system’s rebooting diagnostics.
"The Research Center search units are already actively patrolling the nearby border sectors," Lin Qing said, her sharp eyes tracking the signal bars rising rapidly on the monitor screen. "Because they’re actively sweeping the atmospheric channels for anomalous energy signatures, our transmission will lock onto their high-frequency radio array instantly."
She slammed her palm down firmly on the broad, illuminated transmit key.
*BEEP—!*
A high-gain, encrypted emergency signal flared out through the heavy antenna arrays atop the mountain peak, slicing cleanly through the regional atmospheric interference. Miles away, Ah Hua and the soilders would receive the exact, unencrypted coordinates of this subterranean facility.
"Signal sent," Lin Qing confirmed, turning back to face the group. "Now we move before—"
THUD. THUD. THUD.
Heavy, unhurried boot-steps echoed down the main access corridor, ringing with chilling clarity off the steel bulkheads.
The team snapped their weapons up instantly, taking up tight formation. Old Wang backed toward the doorway, angling the optic scope of his sniper rifle through the threshold, while Xiao Li raised his stone-armored arms in a heavy, defensive guard beside Han Zheng.
Three imposing figures stepped through the sliding doorway into the flickering light of the Command Hub.
In the lead was the greedy, arrogant Military Commander who had overseen their initial capture, a self-satisfied, cruel smirk playing on his lips. Beside him walked a tall, imposing man clad in a pristine grey officer’s coat, his hair silvered cleanly at the temples and his dark eyes cold with absolute, uncompromising authority.
It was the facility Director himself.
Flanking the Director’s left flank was a young soldier, barely in his early twenties. He wore a standard-issue tactical uniform, but his sharp facial structure, prominent jawline, and piercing gaze bore an undeniable, striking resemblance to the Director standing beside him.
"Look at this," the Commander sneered, his fingers caressing his sidearm holster. "The rats managed to scurry all the way up to the command deck. Did you really think a temporary blackout would give you an actual escape route out of this facility?"
"Be quiet," the Director said softly. His tone was remarkably calm, yet it carried a suffocating weight that instantly silenced the arrogant Commander. He looked directly at Han Zheng, his dark eyes narrowing slightly as he assessed the young man’s vibrating kinetic signature. "You possess remarkable raw power, child. But your little uprising ends right here."
Han Zheng didn’t waste a single breath on verbal banter. Knowing that dozens of heavy security squads would eventually converge on their position if they lingered, he surged forward in an explosive burst of sound, his fist enveloped in a blinding layer of compressed kinetic force.
BOOM!
Instead of dodging or retreating, the Director simply raised a single, calm hand.
Instantly, the ambient air around Han Zheng turned violently heavy. A dense, invisible gravitational field slammed down onto Han Zheng’s shoulders with the weight of a falling mountain, cracking the steel floorboards beneath his boots and arresting his forward momentum mid-stride!
"Gravity manipulation..." Lin Qing muttered through gritted teeth, her eyes narrowing as she raised her shotgun.
"And much more," the Director stated coldly. With his other hand, he made a sharp, crushing gesture toward the surrounding steel computer banks.
CREAAAK—!
The reinforced steel plating ripped clean off the concrete walls, liquefying under his ferrokinesis power into glowing, razor-sharp metallic spears that hovered in mid-air before launching straight at Han Zheng!
Han Zheng roared, channeling his vast kinetic reserves into an outward, spherical shockwave that shattered the incoming metal spears into harmless fragments. He pushed against the suffocating gravity field, his youthful agility and pure, unyielding energy reserves allowing him to break through the oppressive force bit by bit.
"Xiao Li, take the kid! I’ll handle the Commander!" Lin Qing ordered sharply, dashing forward through the crossfire.
The arrogant Commander drew his sidearm, but Lin Qing was vastly superior in close quarters. She sidestepped his first shot with fluid precision, closed the distance with terrifying speed, and drove the heavy butt of her shotgun directly into his jaw, shattering it instantly. Before his limp body could hit the ground, she grabbed his collar, threw him over her shoulder, and slammed him face-first into the glowing metal console, knocking him out cold in seconds.
Meanwhile, Xiao Li roared, his arms fully encased in dense slate-grey stone armor as he charged the young soldier. He swung a massive, wall-shattering stone punch straight toward the young man’s chest!
SWOOSH—!
The heavy strike passed straight through the young soldier’s torso as if he were made of sheer smoke!
The young soldier utilized spatial phasing, his body flickering intangibly as Xiao Li’s massive fist hit nothing but empty air. Yet, curiously, instead of phasing behind Xiao Li to land a devastating, lethal counter-strike against his unarmored neck, the young soldier intentionally overextended his own dodge, stumbling awkwardly backward into a concrete pillar and making himself look clumsy and thoroughly outmatched.
Xiao Li frowned slightly, sensing the strange inconsistency in his opponent’s rhythm, but pressed the assault anyway, throwing a relentless barrage of heavy stone strikes that kept the young soldier constantly on the defensive.
Over in the center of the room, the battle between Han Zheng and the Director reached a violent fever pitch. The Director’s gravity fields slammed Han Zheng down repeatedly, but Han Zheng’s vast, unyielding kinetic reserves kept shattering the Director’s iron constructs. The Director was powerful, but his energy output was clearly starting to wane against Han Zheng’s relentless, vigor and inexhaustible stamina.
Seeing the Director strain to maintain a massive gravitational crushing field over Han Zheng, Lin Qing saw her opening.
She unclipped a high-intensity flash-grenade from her stolen tactical vest, pulled the pin, and tossed it cleanly under the Director’s boots.
BANG-FLASH—!
A blinding burst of brilliant white light and thunderous sound detonated right in the Director’s face, instantly breaking his mental concentration. The heavy gravity field suppressing Han Zheng evaporated in a split second.
Seizing the golden opening, Han Zheng exploded forward, breaking the sound barrier in the narrow room. He closed the distance before the blinded Director could rebuild his ferrokinesis shield, driving a kinetic-charged fist straight into the elder officer’s sternum!
THUUUUM-BOOM—!
The kinetic blast detonated internally. The Director gasped violently for air, his eyes rolling back as the massive shockwave knocked him clean off his feet, sending him crashing violently into the central console before he slumped onto the floor in complete, motionless unconsciousness.
Absolute silence fell over the Command Hub, broken only by the crackle of burning electrical panels and the rhythmic blare of distant alarms.
Old Wang maintained his vigilant position at the door, his rifle leveled down the hallway, while Lin Qing and Han Zheng turned instantly toward the last remaining enemy standing in the room.
The young soldier stood near the cracked concrete pillar. He looked down calmly at the unconscious Commander, then at the fallen Director.
Xiao Li raised his heavy stone fists, preparing to finish the fight.
Instead of drawing a sidearm or activating his spatial phasing power, the young soldier abruptly stopped. He unclasped his sidearm holster, letting it drop to the floorboards with a thud, and slowly raised both hands high in the air in clear, undeniable surrender.
"Wait," the young soldier said quietly, his voice remarkably calm and completely devoid of hostility.
Han Zheng stepped forward slowly, his kinetic aura still humming dangerously around his knuckles. "Why are you stopping?"
The young soldier looked directly into Han Zheng’s dark eyes, glancing briefly toward the doorway before leaning in slightly.
"Because fighting you was just a show for them," the young soldier whispered softly. "If you want to get out of here alive before the heavy armor units seal the surface exits, stop hitting me and follow my lead. I’m getting you out."
