Chapter 277: Chapter 277: Kidnapped?

Lily Hart nodded. "I know them." Then she pointed to each of them in turn.

Pointing, she said, "Shaw Family, Shaw Family, the Rivers Family, the Rivers Family." That was the extent of her acquaintance.

The four of them were speechless.

Before they could say anything, a nearby customer got excited, pointing at them and stammering, "You... you!"

The four elders’ scalps tingled. They had a vague sense that something was wrong, but they couldn’t quite put their finger on it.

The customer’s voice drew the attention of others, and everyone began to size up the four men.

"Huh? Aren’t those the guys from that reality show?"

"Yeah! They’re actually real people? I thought they were fakes!"

"This is so surreal. I thought they were fake too. I can’t believe I’m seeing them in person."

The customers grew more and more astonished. They had all assumed the reality show was some old footage that someone had dug up and posted online.

Who would’ve thought... that the "actors" from the show would appear right before their eyes?

Lily Hart rested her chin on her hand and continued to watch the show. The four elders stood there awkwardly, completely at a loss.

They hadn’t seen strangers in a long time and felt an inexplicable social anxiety. What’s more, these were ordinary humans who might just keel over if they so much as lifted a finger.

So they didn’t dare make a single rash move... The four of them huddled closer and closer, stopping just short of clinging to each other.

The Shaw Family’s Fourth Elder explained, "No, that’s not us. We just look like them."

A customer said, "How is that possible? Even your clothes are identical. Do you guys have a script?"

Another customer asked, "So you guys live in the apocalypse too? Is the place you live in your own home?"

The questions, one after another, threatened to overwhelm the four men.

Finally, the Shaw Family’s Second Elder couldn’t take it anymore and discreetly used his superpower to completely shield the four of them.

The Shaw Family’s Fourth Elder also used his superpower, subtly tripping up the customers to keep them from getting any closer.

The four of them had been forced to retreat step by step by the customers and were now on the verge of backing out of the crowd entirely.

The Rivers Family’s Third Elder finally said, "Let’s just go back for today and regroup!"

Everyone unanimously agreed. They couldn’t face this crowd of ordinary humans!

They couldn’t fight them, they couldn’t win an argument with them; all they could do was flee...

’Compared to this, being watched at home doesn’t seem so bad...’

Lily Hart never expected that the elders of the Mysterious Clan would be such wimps.

It seemed the restriction against harming humans was already deeply ingrained in their minds, especially given the vast difference in their power levels.

They could crush an ordinary person with the slightest flick of a finger.

Lily Hart felt the Mysterious Clan was right to have this restriction. Otherwise, the world would truly belong to them.

But she didn’t expect them to be so thin-skinned. They were leaving already, and she hadn’t seen enough.

Lily Hart sighed. Outside, the customers were still chattering away.

"Hey? I checked the livestream replay, and I actually saw them going out."

"So they really do live under the same sky as us?"

"No kidding. I saw how smooth and silky the girls’ hair was on the show, I thought it had to be from the world before."

"I was suspicious yesterday. The food they eat isn’t even that great, not as lavish as what Boss Hart eats!"

The crowd’s enthusiasm for the reality show plummeted instantly.

If they were all under the same sky, living the same miserable lives, what was there to watch?

They’d be better off watching Boss Hart’s life—huh? Where did Boss Hart go? How did she disappear?

Boss Hart herself was currently slumped on the sofa, waiting for Roman Rowe to come make breakfast.

’I’m craving noodles with peanut sauce. The ones sold in the mall are no good; they always feel a bit clumpy and dry.’

’You have to eat them freshly mixed.’

She had just sent the message when, less than a minute later, Roman Rowe came bouncing up the stairs.

Seeing her slumped on the sofa, he laughed. "You’re not that hungry, are you?"

Lily Hart glared at him and said weakly, "Hurry up and cook. I want noodles with peanut sauce! Extra spicy!!"

"You got it!" Roman Rowe agreed readily, feeling a strange sense of joy at being put to use.

He skipped into the kitchen, looking to be in an excellent mood, and deftly brought out a steaming bowl of noodles with peanut sauce.

It was already mixed, every strand of noodle coated in peanut sauce.

There was also a bit of chili oil and fried peanuts, with a fried egg laid on top.

"Here, you must be starving. Go on, eat," Roman Rowe said, placing the bowl in front of her and setting out the chopsticks.

Lily Hart perked up in an instant, as if revived.

She picked up the bowl, took a deep whiff of the aroma, and praised, "This is it!" She picked up her chopsticks and dug in!

Roman Rowe sat next to her, resting his face in his hands, and watched her with his head tilted to the side.

She ate with such gusto that she got sauce on the corner of her mouth. Watching her made Roman Rowe a little hungry, even though he’d just eaten a piece of bread.

He got up and made a bowl for himself, a relatively plain version with no fried egg or fried peanuts.

The two of them sat side-by-side, happily eating their noodles.

After she finished, Lily Hart put her bowl on the table. ’What am I going to do? I always get so sleepy right after I’m full.’

As she was spacing out, her Light Brain vibrated. She opened it to see a message from Elder Shaw.

He said, "I’ve applied for a budget of another 20,000 Crystal Cores. I’ll be over in a bit to purchase supplies."

Lily Hart figured he was just using this as an excuse to come over for a free meal. ’Couldn’t they just discuss this over the Light Brain?’

Still, Lily Hart was all for it. This way, Frederick Shaw could see his grandfather more often.

Half an hour later, Elder Shaw boarded the RV, bringing along the Space Ability User who had been here before.

This time they weren’t buying weapons, but rather support items like gas masks and so on...

Some mutated plants were quite vicious; they would release poison gas as soon as you entered their territory.

A single release could mean the deaths of dozens or even hundreds of people, so precautions were a must.

For example, lightweight food with a long shelf life, and clothing resistant to heat and cold.

Elder Shaw didn’t take advantage of Boss Hart, still letting her make a small profit margin, though not a large one.

The two of them discussed things for a full two hours, only finishing up just before lunch.

Lily Hart felt hungry again, even though she had just had breakfast not long ago. ’My digestion must be too good,’ she thought.

After the meal, Elder Shaw cheerfully took Frederick Shaw to the bathhouse to have some fun.

He enjoyed the full spa treatment from head to toe, and when he came out, he looked as if he were ten years younger.

He had come to terms with things and learned to let go. Now that he had found his grandson, he didn’t care whether he kept his position as leader or not.

If he couldn’t keep the position, he would just get a room in the hotel and spend all day playing with Fred.

If he could keep it, he would, and he could still come visit Fred and chat with Boss Hart every few days.

Life was good.

That evening, Elder Shaw and the Space Ability User took their leave, but just as they were about to enter Central Command, they were kidnapped...

The Space Ability User wasn’t strong; his was a purely support-type superpower, and he had only accompanied Elder Shaw this time to carry supplies.

Elder Shaw had figured it was perfectly safe to visit Fred and Boss Hart, so he hadn’t even bothered bringing bodyguards...

In fact, aside from the first time when he brought them just for show, he hadn’t brought any on his subsequent visits.

Who knew he’d have such "good luck" as to get kidnapped this time!

Even with his hands and feet tightly bound, Elder Shaw could still manage to console himself by finding humor in his grim situation.
