Chapter 280: Chapter 280: Going Home

Hank Lowell chortled. "Let you go? Impossible! After all the trouble I went through to—" Before he could finish, Lily Hart shot out a leg, kicking his lackey square in the crotch.

"ARGH—" Both Hank Lowell and his lackey froze, their grips on their guns slackening.

In that instant, Lily Hart gave Hank Lowell a taste of the same, and an excruciating pain exploded through him.

Frost Shaw and Leo Colby rushed forward. One sent several Ice Blades flying, while the other unleashed a current of electricity that shot straight for Hank Lowell, instantly engulfing him.

Lily Hart ducked, dropped to the ground, and rolled into an open space to her left, giving the two room to unleash their abilities.

But Hank Lowell was no slouch. He was a Seventh-rank Superpower User, and his lackey was a Sixth-rank Superpower User. Against anyone else, they might have stood a chance.

But against Frost Shaw and Leo Colby, both Eighth-rank Superpower Users, they had absolutely no chance. They were taken down in a matter of moments.

Pinned to the ground by one of Frost Shaw’s ice pillars, Hank Lowell was still roaring defiantly. "You bitch! If you’ve got guts, fight me one-on-one!"

Lily Hart had already gotten up from the ground. She walked over—CLICK-CLACK-CLACK—and kicked him in the face. "You? Get lost!"

She kicked so hard she nearly lost her balance, and Frost Shaw instinctively reached out to steady her. Lily Hart planted her hands on her hips, pointed at Hank Lowell, and yelled, "Hurry up! One hundred thousand Crystal Cores to save your life!"

"Save my ass!" Hank Lowell cursed.

Lily Hart said, "Oh? Some backbone. Then you can pay with your life." She turned to leave without a shred of mercy and ordered, "Frost Shaw, off him."

Hank Lowell struggled. "Hey! Stop! Don’t go!"

Frost Shaw wasn’t about to let him off that easily. He mimicked Hank’s earlier attitude, like a butcher hawking his wares. "Sure. Trade supplies for your life. Ten thousand Crystal Cores for one arm. Let’s just see how many Crystal Cores you’ve got."

Nearby, Leo Colby was tormenting the lackey. "Your boss is getting pushed around. You got any supplies?"

The lackey nodded frantically. "Yes, yes, yes." He gestured with his eyes toward his pocket, indicating the loot he had just taken from Elder Shaw. Leo Colby fished it out.

It was a Space Ring.

Leo Colby ordered, "Break the bond." The lackey didn’t dare refuse and immediately severed his connection to the Space Ring.

He pocketed it, planning to give it to Lily Hart later.

Meanwhile, Frost Shaw had already extracted twenty thousand Crystal Cores from Hank Lowell’s space; it was all he could cough up.

"But I’m not a cruel man," Frost Shaw drawled. "How about a buy-one-get-one-free deal? Your head comes with your left arm, your body with your left leg. What do you say?"

Hank Lowell was scared stiff. The massive ice pillar pinning him down was bone-chillingly cold, and his mind seemed to have stopped working. He subconsciously nodded. "Okay..."

"No, no, no, that’s not right! I want my left leg! Wait, I want all of them! Please, I’m begging you, don’t chop me up!" Hank Lowell pleaded, tears and snot streaming down his face.

Frost Shaw acted as if he hadn’t heard a thing. "And how exactly did you threaten Lily Hart and Elder Shaw?" he asked instead.

Hank Lowell wailed, "I-I-I... I was forced into it! Someone else put me up to this! I didn’t want to! Why don’t you go get your revenge on them!"

"Oh? And who could possibly order you around?" Frost Shaw asked, feigning ignorance to draw him out.

Hank Lowell sniffled and wiped away his tears. "They said they were from the Rivers Family. They gave me one hundred Fifth-order Crystal Cores as a down payment and promised another five hundred once the job was done!"

That was a hefty sum. Fifth-order Crystal Cores weren’t easy to come by.

"What was the objective?" Frost Shaw demanded.

"To, uh, threaten Lily Hart for supplies. And, well, capturing her would have been even better..." Hank Lowell’s voice grew softer and softer under Frost Shaw’s terrifying glare.

Frost Shaw pressed his lips into a thin line. "Right. The left arm and right leg, was it?"

With that, he raised an Ice Blade high and brought it straight down on Hank Lowell’s right arm. PFFT—SQUELCH. Like a punctured water balloon, blood sprayed everywhere.

"AARGH—" Hank Lowell let out a bloodcurdling scream. His lackey couldn’t bear to watch and looked away. After a long moment, he roared, "Take my left leg!"

"How loyal. Yours it is, then." Frost Shaw casually wiped the blood from his Ice Blade and walked over, mercilessly hacking off the lackey’s left leg.

"AARGH—" Another scream rang out, this one from the lackey, echoing his boss’s.

Frost Shaw pretended not to hear, leaving the two men pinned beneath the large ice pillars. He turned and walked away. Whether they lived or died was now up to fate.

Stan Sterling and Seth went into the bungalow, where the Space Ability User, Jack Miller, was still inside. When everyone was gathered together, safe and sound, they all breathed a collective sigh of relief.

"Let’s go! Home!" Lily Hart shouted, raising her left fist high.

Elder Shaw was being supported by the much shorter Frederick Shaw. One side of the old man’s body was covered in scrapes from being dragged, with large patches of his skin rubbed raw.

Lily Hart pulled a jacket from her storage space for him to wear. The group headed toward Central Command, and halfway there, they ran into Elder Shaw’s security detail.

They were ridiculously late. Apparently, they’d noticed the time and that Elder Shaw hadn’t returned, so they’d used his locator to track him down.

The two groups parted ways at the gates of Central Command.

Lily Hart led her group back to the RV. On the table sat their half-eaten, now-cold dinner, an unappetizing sight.

But no one wanted it to go to waste, so without a word, everyone picked up a plate or two and carried them to the kitchen.

Roman Rowe and Seth fired up two burners at once to reheat the food faster.

Outside, the rest of the group was sprawled on the sofa, staring blankly at the ceiling.

Lily Hart sighed. "Saving people is exhausting..." Everyone silently agreed.

First, there was the rush to get there, then the battle of wits and strength against the bad guys, and finally, after the successful rescue, the rush to get back.

Frost Shaw suddenly remembered something and sat up straight. "Boss Hart," he admonished, "you can’t keep doing things like that."

"Huh?" Lily Hart asked, looking blank. ’Like what?’

Leo Colby chimed in, "You can’t put yourself in harm’s way like that." Frost Shaw nodded in agreement, his expression grave.

Lily Hart waved a dismissive hand. "It was to save someone," she said nonchalantly. "Besides, I’m fine. That guy was no match for me."

Frost Shaw remained serious. "That doesn’t matter. You’re responsible for all of our lives now!"

"Alright, alright. I’ll be more careful from now on." Seeing she couldn’t win the argument, Lily Hart relented.

Only then did Frost Shaw nod. "Good." He leaned back again, mimicking Lily Hart by staring up at the ceiling.

Soon, Roman Rowe’s shout came from the kitchen. "Come and get the food!"

Stan Sterling got up to help carry the dishes, and the kids trailed behind him like little ducklings.

With each person carrying a couple of plates, the table was quickly filled once more.

Even though the food was reheated, nobody minded. They all ate happily, cleaning their plates.

After eating her fill, Lily Hart’s mood brightened. She tilted her head to look at Frost Shaw.

’He’s so handsome,’ she thought. ’Even the way he eats is handsome. His hair is a bit long, falling past his eyebrows and nearly covering his eyes, but it just adds a hint of roguishness that blends perfectly with his youthful features.’

’Then she glanced at Roman Rowe. His flamboyant blond hair, his striking profile... he ate with wide, hearty motions that gave him a heroic sort of air.’
