Chapter 306: Chapter 306: Steadfast Base

[I’m going to check out a nearby base tomorrow, I’ll be back in a few days~]

After sending the message, Lily Hart searched for the nearest base.

Off she went!

Frost Shaw and the others also closed up the shop and stayed in their rooms for now, planning to go out once they reached their destination.

This base was called Steadfast Base.

It was only four or five hundred kilometers from Central Command, so its conditions were fairly decent. Being so close to the powerful Central Command had its perks.

They left at ten and arrived at twelve.

Lily Hart sent a message to the group chat: [No need to come out. Go wash up and get some sleep. Let’s greet our new customers with a fresh look!]

She also took a moment to read the replies from Elder Shaw and the others.

Elder Shaw: [Stay safe. I’ve got things covered at Central Command.]

Logan Holland: [Boss Hart, don’t go! What will we do without you! Boss Hart! We can’t live without you!]

Yael Lowell was even more dramatic. Perhaps feeling they had gotten familiar, he really let himself go, sending a series of wailing voice messages that made Lily Hart’s brows furrow.

Peter Sharp, who she didn’t know as well, also replied: [Stay safe, Boss Hart. Come back soon.]

She read through each message and replied to their concerns, then went into the bathroom to shower and welcome a brand new day!

...

「The next day.」

When the survivors outside Central Command woke up, they discovered... Hey, where’d my giant lottery shop go?! Where’d my amazing Boss Hart go?!

Where did they go!

In twos and threes, they walked back and forth around the lottery shop’s former location several times, still unwilling to accept reality.

The lottery shop was really gone! And with it, the convenience store, the bathhouse, the factory, the hotel, the night market! All of them were gone!

Where on earth did Boss Hart go?

Was she never coming back?

In that moment, sorrow washed over them. Many of the more empathetic people found their eyes silently turning red.

The thought of no more scratch-offs, no more buying bottled water, spicy gluten strips, and instant noodles at cheap prices, no more ready-made boxed meals...

So many things they could no longer do.

It was too sad.

Someone in the crowd cried out, "Boss Hart..."

It instantly set off everyone’s emotions, and they all fell into their own private sorrow.

The news spread like wildfire inside Central Command, sparking heated discussions.

Some people who had been about to head out for scratch-offs instinctively stopped in their tracks and checked their Light Brains, wanting to see if it was true or not!

The Mysterious Clan also got the news quickly. The Great Elder of the White Family threw his head back and roared triumphantly, so excited he forgot about the camera’s existence.

He ripped off his mask and bellowed, "That damn bitch is finally gone! We’re finally free!"

The Fifth Elder beside him patted his shoulder and pointed at the camera, whispering, "Big Brother, it’s still watching. Watch what you say."

The Great Elder shrugged his shoulders, shaking off the hand. "What’s there to be afraid of! That bitch is gone!" he said arrogantly.

The Fifth Elder really wanted to say, ’She’s gone, but the camera is still here! Everyone can still see us!’

But after so long, people’s enthusiasm for this variety show had waned a bit, though some still watched.

People specifically clipped their comedic moments, making them famous throughout the apocalypse in a way that left them with no mystery to speak of.

And The Mysterious Clan cared most about its reputation and honor; now, the good name they had maintained for years was all gone.

The other three families also expressed immense joy at the news of Lily Hart’s departure.

The stone that had been weighing on their heads was finally lifted!

Their feelings were the complete opposite of the survivors’; they hoped Lily Hart would never come back!

But that was impossible.

The Great Elder of the White Family began to let himself go completely, pointing at the camera and saying, "Hurry up and dismantle this piece of junk!"

The Fifth Elder stopped him. "You can’t, Big Brother! Have you forgotten this thing will explode?"

The Great Elder paused, but words spoken are like water splashed—they can’t be taken back.

He ordered, "Dismantle it! That damn bitch is gone, so it must be deactivated!"

BOOM— A massive explosion echoed throughout the entire White Family estate.

The Great Elder froze. The Fifth Elder snapped out of it. "What are you standing there for? Save him!"

The O’Malley Family hadn’t moved; instead, they had moved into their basement, which they had only remembered they had by chance one day.

’Oh, our house has an underground space.’ So they had all moved in.

The lighting wasn’t great, but it was better than being constantly monitored.

It wasn’t that they hadn’t thought about moving the whole family, but The Mysterious Clan had lived in their ancestral homes for generations.

Moving was not permitted.

...

「Outside Central Command.」

Again, someone in the crowd shouted, "I think Boss Hart went to Steadfast Base!"

"Really? Steadfast Base isn’t that far, right? Anyone want to group up and go?"

"It’s not far, but it’s still four or five hundred kilometers, isn’t it? What if we run into zombies on the way? Can you fight them off?"

"So you can stand life without Boss Hart? Because I can’t!"

"This is a tragedy! I didn’t stock up! I was just saying today that I was going to buy some braised eggplant!"

At these words, everyone grew sad again. They had all thought Boss Hart wouldn’t leave so soon.

So no one had stocked up. Who knew she would leave so suddenly and so quickly?

And now, they didn’t have a scrap of food on hand.

"Can’t you just buy from the online supermarket?"

"Easy for you to say! Like you have a Light Brain!"

They were all poor. Lately, whenever they got their hands on Crystal Cores, they would go splurge at the convenience store or enjoy the bathhouse.

No one had thought about buying a Light Brain.

But some people did have Light Brains, so they crowded around them to see the latest news about Boss Hart.

It turned out Boss Hart had posted photos on [Human Social Sphere].

There were three photos in total. The first was of the main gate of Steadfast Base.

The second was a selfie of Lily Hart, her hair down naturally, a brilliant smile on her face.

In the background, inside the RV, several men were sitting on the sofa, flashing peace signs at the camera.

The third was of neatly arranged scratch-offs on a table, with the caption: Come and play!

Having just posted the photos, Lily Hart put down her Light Brain, plopped down on a chair, and asked, "What’s for breakfast?"

Her voice had barely faded when cries of surprise came from outside. "Is this that awesome lottery shop? How come no one’s here?"

Lily Hart and the others looked over and saw several customers approaching, their faces full of amazement.

She walked out with a smile. To them, it was as if she had appeared out of thin air.

They muttered under their breaths, "Wow, it really is awesome. The people just drop in from the sky."

"Yeah, that must be Boss Hart, right? She looks exactly like her photo!"

Lily Hart raised a hand to greet them. "Hi?"

They snapped back to their senses, realizing they had been gossiping about Boss Hart right in front of her, and laughed awkwardly.

Lily Hart didn’t mind at all and asked, "Are you here for the scratch-offs? If not, there’s a convenience store in the back with instant noodles, bottled water—"

Before she could finish, she was cut off by their screams.

"It’s true! Everything they said online is true! There’s a convenience store, and it has instant noodles and bottled water!"

"Then what are you standing around for? Let’s go buy stuff! What if the convenience store has a limit?"

"What about the scratch-offs?"

"Come on, I heard online that the stuff in the convenience store is cheap. Let’s go raid the place first! It’s not too late to come back for scratch-offs after!"

"Good point, good point."
