Chapter 334: Chapter 334: Clinic
Lily Hart watched the drama unfold from the sidelines, curious to see who would end up with the five scratch-off tickets.
But in reality, the payout rate for a book of twenty scratch-off tickets was fixed. Once the good prizes were gone, all that was left were the dregs.
And who knew who had started the rumor that a book of tickets that had already produced a grand prize was more likely to cough up another one!
Lily Hart could only think, ’Don’t believe rumors, and don’t spread them!’
The final result was... the five tickets were divided among five people.
The customer who had first pointed out this book of scratch-offs was filled with regret. If only he hadn’t acted so fast.
’I should have just kept quiet and made a fortune!’
But... not a single one of the five scratch-off tickets was a winner. Not even for a measly prize.
Obviously, all the winning ones had already been picked.
Lily Hart felt like laughing. She took out a new, unopened book of scratch-off tickets, broke the seal, and placed it on the counter.
"Here, scratch this book." At least this way, they’d get something.
The moment the customers saw this, they grew excited. This was a book opened by Boss Hart herself!
’It must be imbued with her good luck.’
Buoyed by this thought, a customer started scratching, full of vim and vigor. The very first ticket was a winner.
Ten Crystal Cores.
’It’s not a lot, but at least I broke even, right?’
’Keep it up!’ the customer encouraged himself. When the other customers saw this, they swarmed in and bought out the entire book.
And what do you know, the win rate was actually pretty high.
Fifteen out of the twenty tickets yielded prizes, though none of them were first or second place.
But at least they were prizes! That kind of ratio was insane, all right!
Lily Hart recalled the usual probability being between twelve and fifteen winning tickets, but it was almost always around twelve or thirteen.
This book had practically hit the ceiling.
Lily Hart questioned the system. ’You tell me, why is that?’
The system replied meekly, ’Host, do you remember what I once told you? This is your shop. As long as your will is strong enough...’
The rest didn’t need to be said. Everyone involved was smart enough to understand: if your will was strong enough, nothing was impossible.
But Lily Hart really didn’t believe it... ’Could I really be that amazing?’
’Time for an experiment.’
She took out another book of scratch-off tickets, personally broke the seal, personally set it out, and even repeated a mantra in her mind countless times:
’First prize, first prize, first prize!’
Roman Rowe’s rambling voice came from behind her. "Lily Hart, what do you want for lunch?"
So it was almost noon. Lily Hart had been so out of it she thought it was still early.
She grabbed Roman Rowe by the wrist, feeling his scorching body heat even through his sleeve.
’Like grabbing a hand warmer,’ she thought. ’Pretty useful in the winter. If his wrist is this hot, then...’
"Come on, scratch one." Lily Hart shook off those distracting thoughts and casually pulled a ticket from the newly opened book, handing it to him.
’This guy’s luck is always pretty good,’ she thought. ’Last time he won that teddy bear. Could he hit a grand prize this time?’
Though confused, Roman Rowe obediently took the ticket, bent over, and started scratching next to her.
Lily Hart chanted silently, ’Grand prize, grand prize,’ as she leaned in to watch.
Their heads were extremely close. Roman Rowe’s unruly golden hair brushed against Lily Hart’s, their strands mingling.
Lily Hart didn’t pay it much mind, but Roman Rowe grew a little uncomfortable and shifted slightly away.
"What are you dodging for? Won’t you even let me watch?" Lily Hart said, exasperated. She scooted closer, only to see he had merely scratched off a tiny corner.
Roman Rowe froze, letting her lean her head in close. The hair from her forehead brushed against his face, tickling him.
His heart fluttered as well. Roman Rowe swallowed, his gaze shifting from the scratch-off ticket to her focused face.
’Such long, curled eyelashes... Such a straight, delicate nose... I wish I could shrink down and use it as a slide.’
In an instant, a jumble of wild thoughts flashed through Roman Rowe’s mind, and he couldn’t stop them.
"Roman Rowe! Hurry up and scratch it!" Lily Hart said through gritted teeth. She was focused on the ticket.
’What is he doing? Daydreaming? Is there no justice in this world!’
Roman Rowe was jolted back to his senses. "Scratching, I’m scratching," he said as his hands started to move.
Soon, the entire ticket was scratched off. It revealed a "+" symbol—a bold, red one at that.
This was the first time Lily Hart had seen such a symbol. She had no idea what the prize was, but she couldn’t help but be reminded of a hospital’s cross.
’Don’t tell me Roman Rowe actually won a hospital?’
With hearts pounding in excitement, the two of them fed the scratch-off ticket into the Lucky Cat’s mouth and waited.
A small white card was spat out.
Roman Rowe hurried to pick it up, but his heart sank. ’How can it be such a huge prize? Can I even handle it?’
One look at his expression and Lily Hart knew this was something big. "What is it? What is it?" she asked urgently.
Seeing him standing there dumbfounded, she snatched it from his hand. There, in huge letters, was a single word: "Hospital."
"!!!!" Lily Hart’s eyes widened. ’Do you really get whatever you think of?’
’But aren’t first prizes supposed to require the perfect convergence of time, place, and people? Why did this feel so random?’
The system silently prompted, ’But this *is* the perfect convergence of time, place, and people, Host~’
Come to think of it, that made sense. Roman Rowe had just arrived, ready to make lunch; she had just opened a new book of tickets; and she had just happened to hand him one to scratch.
If that wasn’t the perfect convergence, what was?
’Great, now I have to find a place to put a hospital,’ she thought. ’I wonder how big the starter version is.’
What about doctors and nurses? How was the hospital supposed to operate? Having come from a more civilized era, Lily Hart didn’t have a clue.
’I can’t just start recruiting on the spot, can I?’
’Whatever, I’ll redeem the prize first and figure out the rest later! One step at a time!’
Lily Hart had Roman Rowe carry the Lucky Cat as they both got out of the RV. They walked a wide loop, ending up behind the hot pot restaurant.
Roman Rowe wasn’t happy with the spot. "This is too far," he muttered. "And there are way too many buildings in the way."
"What did you say? Speak up," Lily Hart said impatiently. ’A grown man with a voice as quiet as a mosquito’s buzz,’ she thought.
With the Lucky Cat cradled in one arm, Roman Rowe put his other hand on his hip. "I said it’s too far from you! I want to be closer to you!"
After shouting, he grew embarrassed, turning his head to the side with a pout.
Lily Hart laughed. She actually agreed it was too remote back here, but there was no space left out front.
If all else failed, their only choice was to place it in front of the hotel.
"All right, all right. Let’s go to the front," Lily Hart said. Roman Rowe’s mood instantly brightened.
He had only been pretending to be upset, so her words immediately brought a smile to his face, and he trotted happily after her.
"Where are we going, Boss Hart?" Roman Rowe asked with a grin as he hurried to catch up.
"In front of the hotel? What do you think?" Lily Hart suggested.
"That’s perfect! It’s even further front than the others!" ’And it’s closer to you,’ he thought. ’I’ll be able to see the lottery shop as soon as I step outside.’
Roman Rowe didn’t say the last part out loud, merely repeating it to himself in his thoughts.
The hotel’s main entrance faced the lottery shop. The two of them walked over to the left side of the hotel.
"How about here? Right alongside the hotel." Lily Hart stood there, surveying the area. The view wasn’t half bad.
"I love it, hehe~" Roman Rowe was ecstatic. He agreed immediately, afraid she might change her mind if he hesitated for even a second.
Lily Hart smiled too, raising an eyebrow at the Lucky Cat. "Where’s the card? Let’s stick it in and redeem the prize."
Roman Rowe frantically searched his pockets. Finally, under Lily Hart’s murderous glare, he found it in the inner pocket of his jacket.
