Lothe stared bewilderedly at the small mountain of glowing orbs, skill scrolls, and spirit gear scattered across the damp stone floor.

Right.

Something was missing.

His dark eyes narrowed. The Beast Core—the high-tier core of the Level 5, Tier 1 Beast King Crocodilian—should have dropped alongside the other orbs when its massive frame exploded.

So where was it?

His gaze swept across the dim cavern, searching between the radiant attribute orbs, beneath the glowing scrolls, and around the piles of beast materials.

Nothing.

Then—

A faint, deep-green pulse caught the outer corner of his vision.

Lothe turned immediately. As he stepped toward the shadows at the edge of the cavern, the ambient pressure in the air spiked violently. Even from ten yards away, a heavy, suffocating aura radiated from the dark stone.

There it was.

A fist-sized, deep-green Beast Core lay quietly against the cold rock, pulsing like a slow, dark heart.

Lothe crouched down. The moment his gaze locked onto the green crystal, an unbearable, maddening hunger erupted from the deepest depths of his soul.

It was the exact same sensation—the primal, animalistic instinct he had felt when encountering the core of the Twin-Tailed Dusk Panther. But this time, the urge to devour it was ten times more violent.

"What’s wrong?" Seana asked, noticing his sudden rigidity.

Lothe didn’t answer. His right hand moved involuntarily, drawn toward the glowing core like a moth to a flame.

"[Inspect]," he commanded mentally.

Red system text flashed warningly before his eyes:

[Inspect]

[BEAST KING CORE]

Level 5, Tier 1 Crocodilian Beast Core

Description: Contains the concentrated raw Qi and refined biological essence of a mutated Beast King.

[WARNING: The Host’s Qi Core is structurally incompatible with Beast Cores (Compatibility: 0.00%).

Attempting to directly refine this item will result in severe meridian damage, Qi Core collapse, or instant physical destruction.]

Lothe’s expression turned grave. The warning was absolute, identical to the one he had received before.

Yet as he stared at the pulsing green core, that maddening, primal hunger clawed at his mind, screaming at every cell in his body to swallow the power whole.

His fingers trembled. Why? Why does my soul demand this energy?

Seana hadn’t felt a single itch when examining the Dusk Panther’s core. Neither had any of the other awakened fighters. Only him.

Lothe gritted his teeth, his hand crossing the final inch to touch the cold crystal.

The moment his skin made contact—

BOOOOOOM!!

A violent wave of dark-green energy erupted from the core!

Instead of blasting outward into the cavern, the corrosive green Qi was violently pulled inward toward Lothe, as if the energy had recognized a supreme, ravenous vortex.

The green light spiraled up his arm like a strike snake before plunging directly into his forehead!

"LOTHE!" Seana cried out, her face draining of color.

The Beast Core dissolved into a roaring torrent of wild, unrefined energy, surging straight into his brain cavity and meridians!

PING!

[CRITICAL WARNING!]

[Unknown high-density energy infiltrating the Host’s body!]

[Beast Qi detected! Compatibility: 0.00%!]

[Host’s Qi Core cannot safely contain foreign Beast Qi!]

[Forced refinement will cause catastrophic internal failure! Immediate expulsion recommended!]

"ARGHHH!"

Lothe’s body violently convulsed. The pain hit him with the force of a falling mountain.

His blood felt as though it were boiling inside his veins.

Veins bulged black and purple beneath his skin as his circulation sped up to unnatural, lethal speeds. It felt as though liquid iron was being forced through his paper-thin meridians.

"Lothe!"

Seana sprinted to his side. She recognized this exact agony—the same terrifying, life-threatening backlash he had suffered when trying to absorb the Dusk Panther’s core. But this time, the energy density was vastly greater!

Lothe’s knees slammed hard into the stone floor, his fingernails tearing against the rock until they bled. "AHHHHH!"

BOOOOOOM!!

A kinetic shockwave of erratic spatial energy exploded from his frame. The cavern trembled violently, dust and stalactites raining down from the high ceiling as the space surrounding his body warped like distorted glass.

Even space itself was buckling under the violent conflict inside him!

"Lothe, stop!" Seana reached out, her [Blood Sense] instantly penetrating his frame.

Her heart froze. His internal condition was complete chaos. The wild green Beast Qi was tearing through his meridians like a rabid monster, clashing violently with his native Void Qi.

Every collision shattered internal capillaries and battered his vital organs. His Qi Core was vibrating on the edge of total collapse!

He’s going to blow himself apart!

Without a second thought, Seana slammed her palm flat against his back. "Hold on!"

She forced her refined Crimson Blood Qi directly into his meridians.

PING!

[Non-hostile foreign Qi detected.]

[Analyzing intent... No threat detected. Classification: Auxiliary Support.]

The notifications flashed in Lothe’s distorted vision, but his mind was already slipping into delirium.

Seana focused entirely on his internal map. With her [Blood Sense], every vein, vessel, and meridian in his body appeared before her mind like a glowing schematic. She didn’t try to suppress the Beast Qi directly—doing so would only crush his meridians between two massive forces.

Instead, she used her control over blood to regulate his heart rate, lower his internal vascular pressure, and reinforce his tearing blood vessels from the inside, giving him a microscopic cushion of time.

He isn’t stopping! Seana realized in horror.

Inside his body, Lothe refused to expel the energy. He pushed his Void Qi forward again and again, trying to force the green Beast Qi toward his Core!

Blood gushed from the corners of his mouth and nose. His skin turned scabs-red from the unbearable internal heat.

[WARNING: Qi Core instability at critical threshold!]

[Meridian Damage: 17%... 24%... 31%...]

[ABORT REFINEMENT IMMEDIATELY!]

Lothe ignored the red prompts, his teeth grinding so hard blood seeped through his gums.

I will not be ruled by this pain... If my body craves this energy, then I will make it submit!

He remembered the sensation from before—the instinct wasn’t to reject the Beast Qi, but to devour it.

Lothe closed his eyes to the agony. Instead of using his Void Qi as a wall to block the green energy, he fundamentally altered his circulation technique.

He stopped trying to suppress it.

His Void Qi shifted into a whirlpool, encircling the raging Beast Qi. One revolution. Two revolutions. Three revolutions.

The wild Beast Qi found itself trapped within a spinning, inescapable spatial vortex.

Don’t fight it... assimilate it!

Lothe’s Void Qi snapped shut like the jaws of a cosmic leviathan.

PING!

[Unregistered Qi Circulation Pattern detected!]

[Analyzing...]

[Host has successfully created a unique Cultivation Technique!]

[Technique Created: Void Devour]

The instant the system notification fired, a miraculous transformation occurred within Lothe’s meridians.

His Void Qi erupted with absolute spatial dominance. Instead of resisting the dark-green Beast Qi—it devoured it!

The violent green energy didn’t explode or dissolve; it was systematically broken down, stripped of its wild, animalistic properties, and assimilated directly into his spatial stream. The deep-green hue vanished, replaced by pure, shimmering violet Qi!

BOOOOOOOOOM!!

The ambient Spiritual Qi in the cave surged into Lothe’s body in a massive vortex. His Void Qi expanded, contracted, and settled into a deep, peaceful rhythm.

[+400 EXP Gained!]

[Void Devour activated successfully!]

[Refining foreign Beast King Qi...]

[Refinement Complete!]

[+500 EXP Gained!]

[All conflicting properties within the Beast Qi have been fully nullified.]

[Void Devour has neutralized the Beast Qi’s inherent backlash.]

Lothe collapsed backward onto the stone floor, his chest heaving violently.

"Huff... huff... huff..."

Cold sweat soaked his purple robes. For several long seconds, he lay motionless, staring up at the stone ceiling in dazed exhaustion.

He clenched his right fist, feeling the newly refined Void Qi humming effortlessly through his completely healed meridians.

I really need to figure out the root of this hunger... Lothe thought with a tired grimace. He hated the feeling of his instincts driving him before his conscious mind could make a logical choice. But at the very least, his gamble had paid off.

He pulled up the description of his newly forged technique:

[TECHNIQUE: VOID DEVOUR]

Description: A unique Qi Circulation Cultivation Technique forged through the Host’s spatial affinity and survival instincts.

Effect: Encircles and suppresses incompatible foreign energy, violently digesting and refining it into pure, neutral Void Qi.

Note: Does not directly expand the Qi Pool. Success depends on the Host’s Qi Control, physical foundation, and pain tolerance. Higher-tier foreign energy increases refinement risk exponentially.

Lothe smiled faintly. It wasn’t a magic cheat that let him consume everything without effort, but it gave him a structured, reliable method to digest foreign energy sources.

Beside him, Seana let out a long breath, slowly withdrawing her hand and her Crimson Qi.

Lothe blinked, realizing his head was resting on something soft and warm.

He was lying directly on Seana’s lap.

Seana looked down at him, her eyes holding a mix of exasperation and quiet relief. "Are you okay?"

Lothe stared up at her face, offering a weak, lazy smirk. "I’m alive."

Seana let out a soft, amused huff. "That wasn’t what I asked"

Lothe closed his eyes again, letting his head rest comfortably against her thigh. "I’m fine now."

Seana sighed, her slender fingers reaching down to gently run through his long, silky black hair. "Don’t ever give me a scare like that again," she murmured, her voice softer than it had ever been.

Lothe didn’t answer right away. But the corners of his lips rose slightly.

"Okay," he whispered softly.

A tiny smile touched Seana’s lips. "You really are a handful."

For some reason, he looked like a large fox being comforted after getting into trouble.

After a few quiet minutes, Seana tapped his shoulder gently. "Come on. We still need to find a way out of here."

Lothe opened his eyes, reluctantly sitting up and dusting off his purple silk robes.

They turned to face the small mountain of accumulated loot. With a flick of his wrist, Lothe split the pile into two portions, pushing the larger stack toward her.

"You take the bigger share," Lothe said.

Seana raised an eyebrow, a teasing smile gracing her lips. "Don’t come asking for any of it back later. Because I won’t give you a single coin."

Lothe chuckled. "Deal."

With a single wave of her hand, the massive pile of treasures vanished directly into her Soul Manor sanctuary, leaving the floor clean.

However, one major obstacle remained.

Both of them turned to face the narrow, pitch-black stone passage at the end of the cave.

Darkness swallowed every inch of space beyond the threshold. Even with their evolved Level 5 senses, neither Lothe’s [Spatial Perception] nor Seana’s [Blood Sense] could penetrate the gloom.

Drip.

Drip.

Drip.

The rhythmic sound of falling water echoed ominously from deep within the passage.

Lothe’s expression hardened into pure combat readiness as he stepped in front of Seana, his dark eyes fixing on the void.

"Stay close to me," Lothe instructed softly.

Seana drew her [Blood Moon Sword], her crimson Qi humming along the edge. "Always."

Together, they crossed the threshold into the dark passage.

Neither of them noticed the subtle, imperceptible ripple that passed through the shadows deep within the tunnel—as if an ancient, long-dormant presence had just opened its eyes.
