Chapter 462: Chapter 473: Secret
He was still inside Sanctyr Base, waiting for news from his people on the outside.
From what he’d gathered, Stella Sterling had been in Veridia for a while now.
Attorney Walsh, the brother of Mr. and Mrs. Jennings, had been dead for several days, which meant Stella Sterling must have been here for some time.
But she had yet to make an appearance.
And he hadn’t received any word either.
’What did she come here for, and where is she staying?’
’Did she come alone, or did she bring people with her?’
He knew nothing about any of this yet, but that was fine.
Once he found out where she was staying, he would be able to uncover the rest eventually.
But he waited for a long time and still heard nothing.
He couldn’t help but frown. ’So much time has passed. Stella Sterling should have deplaned by now.’
’The moment she entered Veridia’s limits, my people should have spotted her.’

’And the person who escorted her hasn’t returned yet. Did something unexpected happen?’
"Big Brother, what’s wrong?"
Selene Larkin saw Miles Sanctus’s brow furrow, and despite kneeling on the floor, she couldn’t help but ask with concern.
"It’s nothing. Have you remembered what I told you?"
Miles Sanctus shook his head, suppressing his unease, and looked at Selene Larkin.
Selene Larkin nodded gravely. "I remember. The next time I see Miss Sterling, I’ll be more courteous. I’ll tolerate it as best I can."
As she said this, a look of resentment crossed Selene Larkin’s face.
’That Stella Sterling is so arrogant. Sometimes, I just can’t hold myself back!’
’But Big Brother just explained his plan to me in detail, and it’s exactly as I suspected.’
’So, for his plan, I have to endure it. I can’t ruin things for him.’
Seeing how understanding Selene Larkin was, Miles Sanctus nodded in satisfaction. "Rest assured. You know women have never been important to me. Once my plans succeed, even if I have to marry Stella Sterling, I will give you a chance to get revenge for what happened today."
"You are my sworn sister. In this apocalypse, you’re the only person I can truly trust and rely on. I won’t treat you unfairly."
"As for what happened today, it was just to give everyone an explanation. I’m punishing you on the surface, but I won’t truly hold it against you. Just put on an act for the people at the base."
Miles Sanctus’s tone softened.
The resentment in Selene Larkin’s heart finally subsided a great deal. Hearing her big brother’s earlier words made her heart pound with excitement.
’I knew it. Big Brother would never let me suffer such a huge injustice without doing anything about it.’
She said, "Thank you, Big Brother. I will definitely restrain myself."
’As long as I can get my revenge!’
After they exchanged a few more words, Selene Larkin left.
Not long after she departed, someone entered noiselessly.
The man kept his head down. It was one of the men who had previously been with Selene and River Larkin.
Miles Sanctus looked at him, his tone ice-cold. "Tell me everything that happened after you met Stella Sterling. Don’t leave out a single detail. I want to know everything."
The man showed no surprise. With his head still bowed, he recounted everything he had seen and heard.
He even included the things Stella Sterling had said that might have seemed like complete nonsense to others, leaving nothing out.
Miles Sanctus listened in silence. It wasn’t that he distrusted Selene Larkin; his sworn sister had risked life and limb for him over the years, and he had faith in her loyalty.
He was simply accustomed to being cautious. So even though Selene Larkin had already told him what had happened, he still summoned someone else to hear it a second time.
The man’s account of the events was nearly identical to Selene Larkin’s.
Miles Sanctus’s brow furrowed deeply. ’If that’s truly how it was, then I’m quite displeased with Stella Sterling’s behavior.’
’From both of their accounts, I can tell Stella Sterling was being deliberately provocative.’
’Why would she do that? She probably wanted to use this as a chance to test the strength of my Sanctyr Base.’
’That seems highly likely. The powers behind us are both major bases. While there’s no major conflict now, it’s inevitable that we’ll one day compete for resources and influence.’
’It’s not surprising that she’d want to gauge my base’s strength.’
’Her attitude was much better when she saw me earlier, but that was probably just as I suspected—she wanted to use me to get out of the base.’

’I hope it’s the former.’
At this thought, a sense of urgency welled up inside him. ’It seems I need to accelerate Dr. Quinn’s experiments. As long as his research succeeds, my base will have a large contingent of powerful individuals completely under my control.’
’Then, even if superpower users truly exist in this world, I’ll have nothing to fear.’
