Apocalypse Rebirth: Crazy from Day One

Chapter 464 - 475: Going Overboard with Loyalty

Chapter 464: Chapter 475: Going Overboard with Loyalty

He was the boss, after all. Sitting in that position, he had plenty of enemies. Many people wanted to take his life.

So every time he left, he did so in secret.

Other than the person who took him there, no one else would know about that particular safe house.

He also knew that Boss Saint definitely had more than one safe house. However, he was certain that for each one, only the person who escorted Boss Saint there would know its location. No one else. That’s why he was so sure.

After hearing this, Stella Sterling nodded, not doubting what he said.

She knew he wasn’t lying. The moment she’d stepped off the plane, she had carefully observed her surroundings.

There was no one else around besides the two of them. That was why she had been able to act so brazenly, knocking Zane Xavier unconscious and pulling the plane directly into her personal space.

She looked at him with a playful glint in her eyes. ’This guy’s mentality sure changes fast. Just a moment ago, he had the look of someone who had been unwillingly forced into submission.’

’In the blink of an eye, without me even saying anything, he’s proactively telling me all these secrets!’

’The speed of this mental shift... even I’m a little impressed!’

A moment later, she eyed him suspiciously. ’This kid betrayed his former master so easily. I wonder if he’d betray me just as readily when the time comes.’

’Good thing I gave him that Loyal Servant Pill. It seems I had the right idea.’

Noticing the odd look in Miss Sterling’s eyes, Zane Xavier thought for a moment and immediately understood why she was looking at him that way.

’After all, my behavior makes me look like a completely disloyal and unrighteous person. Even though I have a new master today, Sanctyr Base was my old employer.’

’Now I’m already spilling all my old employer’s secrets. It’s no wonder Miss Sterling is suspicious.’

Thinking of this, he immediately changed his expression and explained earnestly, "Miss Sterling, please don’t misunderstand. I’m a very righteous and loyal person."

Seemingly afraid she wouldn’t believe him, he continued, "My loyalty is only to my master! Before I acknowledged you as my new master, I was completely devoted to Sanctyr Base. I would never have done anything to betray it!"

"But now that I have a new master, I will be unfailingly loyal to my current one. As for the past, that’s all just water under the bridge!"

Stella Sterling leaned back, narrowing her eyes at him. "When you betray me in the future, will you act just like you are now?"

Hearing this, Zane Xavier shook his head without the slightest hesitation. "How could I? Miss Sterling, you give me so much good food. How could I possibly betray you?"

Thinking that wasn’t enough, he added, "As long as Miss Sterling doesn’t let me go hungry—I’m not saying I need to eat as well as I did today every day—as long as there’s food, even if you try to chase me away, I won’t leave."

Listening to his words, it was impossible to tell what Stella Sterling was thinking. She simply nodded and said nothing more.

’This man clearly wants something. People with desires are easy to handle.’

’As long as you satisfy their needs, people like this won’t betray you.’

Zane Xavier looked at the young woman’s unreadable expression, his heart filled with unease.

’I was too careless!’ he thought.

’I was in such a hurry to prove my loyalty, I accidentally went overboard.’

’What if she doubts my character now?’

But he quickly calmed himself. ’Time will prove everything. It doesn’t matter if I don’t have her complete trust right now.’

’I’ll use my actions to show her my loyalty in the future. In time, Miss Sterling will naturally see what kind of person Zane Xavier is.’

’And as for right now? More words are useless. There’s no opportunity to prove my loyalty, after all.’

’Anything more I say would just be empty talk!’

’Sometimes, saying too much just makes your words harder to believe.’

’Rather than do that, I’m better off saying less now and using my actions to prove my absolute loyalty later.’

So he looked at Stella Sterling and said earnestly, "Please believe me, Miss Sterling!"

After saying this, he said no more and stood quietly to the side.

Stella Sterling looked over at him and stood up. "Then prove your loyalty with your actions. Here with me, as long as you are loyal, I will never treat you unfairly!"

Zane Xavier’s eyes lit up, and he nodded eagerly. "Don’t worry, Miss Sterling! I will definitely prove myself!"

Stella Sterling laughed softly and didn’t reply to him.

’As for his loyalty, I’ll observe it for myself in time. For now, I’ll remain skeptical about everything he’s said.’

’Of course, I believe he’s already figured that out, which is why he stopped his endless stream of words.’

’He’s a smart one, it seems!’

’At least that Loyal Servant Pill wasn’t wasted on him.’

Stella Sterling wouldn’t give this thing to people lightly. After all, it was an item that forcibly controlled people.

Some people were repulsed by it.

However, Stella Sterling would always place great trust in and give important responsibilities to anyone who had taken one—people like Stephen Lawrence or Black Swan, for example.

Or Andrew Shaw.

She could trust these people completely, which meant she could use all her secrets and abilities in front of them without fear of being exposed.

This meant they would become her most trusted right-hand associates.

She entrusted them with far more than anyone else in the base.

"Miss Sterling, where are we going next?"

Zane Xavier asked Stella Sterling. They were currently in an abandoned house. He had just glanced out the window and saw a wide-open area outside, with stretches of forest in the distance.

It didn’t look like they were in a city, more like the countryside.

"I’m not sure," Stella Sterling shook her head. "This is probably some abandoned village. There’s no one left, and most of the houses have collapsed. It took me a long time just to find a place that was barely habitable."

She had thought that Miles Sanctus might have someone follow her, so she didn’t enter the city right away.

She didn’t head in the direction of Veridia, but went somewhere else instead.

After all, if she were alone, she could have entered her personal space and used it to move around, gradually slipping out of their line of sight.

But now it was different; she was with someone else.

She had no choice but to find a place to lay low first and shake anyone from Miles Sanctus who might be watching.

After that, she could figure out a way into Veridia. After all, she still needed to rendezvous with her new followers.
