Apocalypse Rebirth: Making Billions With My Fortune-Telling Skill
Chapter 224: The blue one...One of the dresses was crafted from shimmering sapphire stones and deep, sky-blue silk that cascaded down like a starlit night sky. The other was woven from white gems and pristine, crystal-clear stones that glittered no less brilliantly than diamonds.
As the chandelier lights caught them, the stones reflected against each other in a blinding, harmonized display, making it instantly clear that these were twin dresses created for sisters.
Xavier had really gone out of his way to source and deliver these within a single day.
April stood frozen, a quiet swell of pride and genuine warmth washing through her chest.
These emotions creeping into her heart were so new, so completely foreign compared to the cold, survivalist instinct she had cultivated since her rebirth. Yet, standing here, it wasn’t uncomfortable. If anything... It made her feel human.
She only hoped this newly awakened human side wouldn’t eventually become her downfall.
Emily finally caught sight of her in the doorway and immediately let out a long breath of absolute relief. "Sister!"
Emily practically threw herself across the room, wrapping her arms tightly around her sister’s waist. "There are just so many clothes! Are these really all for me? Or are we sharing them?"
April let out a soft laugh, wrapping her arm around Emily’s shoulders. "They’re all for you, Emily."
Emily’s eyes instantly watered, her hands clutching at her chest. "But there are too many! I can’t possibly wear them all myself!"
"Well then..." April reached out, teasingly tapping the tip of her sister’s nose. "When the world ends, we’ll just have our own mini fashion parade around my house. And don’t worry, Rufus and Lily will be the judges."
Emily burst into a bright laugh. "No fair! Lily will certainly be biased toward me!"
"What a reputation you have here, Lily," April called out softly to the small kitten perched high up on her plush scratching tower.
Lily let out a sweet, approving purr, stretching her tiny paws.
Emily turned back toward the two mannequins, her eyes sparkling with pure awe. "But those dresses, April... they truly are extraordinary."
"Yes, they are," April agreed softly, her dark eyes reflecting the brilliant sapphire and diamond light. Then, her gaze hardened, a cold, sharp glint replacing her quiet warmth. "It’s the right fit for a cold revenge. Because tomorrow night, we make sure that those who once trampled on us see that we are no longer beneath their feet."
Emily stepped forward, her hand lightly hovering over the crystalline fabric of the white gown before turning her head back toward April.
"Which one are you wearing tomorrow night?" Emily asked, her eyes sparkling as she looked between the two exquisite masterpieces. "The blue one looks like an ocean of sapphire, but the white one... it literally looks like pure, woven starlight."
April walked over to the mannequins, her fingers gently brushing against the smooth, luxurious blue silk of the sapphire dress. The rich hue seemed to shift under the room’s warm chandelier light, radiating a cold, majestic elegance that fit her dark, sharp aura perfectly.
"I’ll take the sapphire," April murmured, a faint, confident smirk touching her lips. "And the white diamond gown belongs to you."
Emily’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief, her hands flying to her mouth. "M-Me?! April, no... I can’t wear something this grand! Everyone at the banquet will be staring at me!"
"That is precisely the point," April stated smoothly, turning to face her twin. Her dark eyes softened, yet held an unshakeable, fierce protectiveness. "For years, the world treated us like trash to be discarded. Tomorrow night, I want every single member of the upper crust, every elite family, and every greedy corporate vulture to see that my sister stands on absolute gold."
Emily pressed her lips together, tears of overwhelming gratitude welling at the corners of her eyes. She stepped into April’s embrace, burying her face into her shoulder. "Thank you, April... for everything."
April patted her sister’s back gently, resting her chin on Emily’s head as she looked over at the sparkling gowns.
The quiet warmth blossoming in her chest was undeniable, but as her gaze drifted toward the grand balcony window, her expression sharpened into a blade of icy resolve.
Tomorrow night wasn’t just a lavish party for the wealthy to parade their titles and riches before the impending collapse.
It was the final gathering of the city’s ruling elite before the world burned—and April intended to make every single one of her enemies bow.
Well, that was for tomorrow. As for today, they just needed to lay on their comfortable beds and sleep.
Since the event wasn’t till night, April had the whole day planned out. It was more like staying in bed for most of the time while giving orders about her stockpile online but apparently, someone had other plans.
"Sister! Please!"
April stared at her twin with a mixture of disbelief and utter exhaustion. "It’s barely ten in the morning, Emily. The banquet isn’t until seven tonight. I am fully capable of sitting on this couch doing absolutely nothing until it is time to put on the dress."
"You cannot go to a high-society elite banquet looking like you just rolled out of bed after a twelve-hour gaming marathon!" Emily pleaded, clasping her hands together in front of her chest.
Her eyes were wide, shining with an irresistible, pleading puppy-dog look that she knew April could never resist. "Dr. Oliver said the estate’s private wellness spa on the third floor is fully operational. The hair stylists and estheticians are already waiting!"
April groaned, sinking deeper into the velvet cushions of the lounge, clutching a plush throw pillow over her face.
She did just fine going to the auction the other time without wasting time at a spa. Ugh.
"I do not need hair treatment, Emily. I need to relax."
"Lily agrees with me," Emily added imperscriptibly, pointing at the white kitten sitting on the coffee table. Right on cue, Lily let out a tiny, high-pitched meow, tilting her head. "See? Grooming is everything."
April slowly dragged the pillow down from her face, looking back and forth between her sister and the kitten.
"...You’re both bullies," April muttered, though there was zero bite in her voice.
Ten minutes later, April found herself stretched out on a heated lounger inside the Reed estate’s state-of-the-art private spa suite.
