Apocalypse Rebirth: Making Billions With My Fortune-Telling Skill
Chapter 261: You Don’t Even Know HimAs the group moved past the intersecting hallway leading toward the public VIP balconies, a small crowd of high-society guests and venue executives had already gathered. Whispers rippled through the onlookers like wildfire, their eyes wide as they took in the unbelievable sight.
"Who is that woman? Master Reed is holding her himself..."
"Look at the coat wrapped around her—isn’t that custom Italian silk? And it’s completely ruined with grease!"
"Why are all those big shots taking her side over the venue staff? Is she someone from the capital?"
"She must be incredibly important, that’s for sure..."
Emily kept close to Xavier’s side, casting defensive, sharp glances at the murmuring spectators.
She leaned toward April, her voice low and filled with protective indignation. "Pay them no mind, April. They don’t know anything about what happened. They’re just gossiping."
April rested her head against Xavier’s shoulder, her eyes half-lidded, completely unfazed by the staring eyes and hushed speculation. To think Emily was telling her this now. It almost made her smile but the slick, foul weight of the grease was still clinging to her skin and making her super uncomfortable.
Her expression remained as calm as still water.
"It doesn’t bother me," April replied, her voice smooth and devoid of any lingering heat. "Ignorance is bliss, after all. Let them talk."
Xavier didn’t even spare the onlookers a single glance, his icy aura cutting through the corridor so intensely that the crowd instinctively parted, shrinking back into the alcoves to clear a path.
"Sometimes," he finally spoke and April looked up at him. "Ignorance is what will get them killed."
"True," she whispered. "But that’s not our problem, right?"
"Right,"
Philippe halted in front of a dark mahogany double door at the end of the private wing, frantically tapping the master access sensor.
"H-Here it is. The private suite." he stammered, stepping aside and Samuel did the opening, using the key card he had on him.
The door clicked open to reveal a sprawling luxury rest suite, with a private marble bath chamber.
"Good work," Xavier said, stepping straight past the threshold. "You shall be rewarded for this,"
"Um, no, i-it’s fine," he stuttered. "I just did what anyone would do," he said but Xavier did not see it as such.
He cast a brief glance over his shoulder at Samuel. "Secure the floor. No one else steps foot in this place."
Samuel took one last look at April, closed his eyes and then bowed, "Yes, Mr. Reed."
Xavier carried her directly into the suite, setting her down gently on the edge of the leather sofa, not minding the fact that they would get grease all over.
The room was comfortable and clean, though not as magnificent as the ones in his estate or the ones in April’s fortress, it was far more functional than the opulent suites upstairs.
"I need to get you out of those ruined clothes," Emily said, pacing the room anxiously and even she realized something very important. April didn’t have anything to change into. "I’ll go down and buy a new dress for you." She immediately offered.
"You’re not going anywhere alone," April said firmly, wincing slightly as the sticky, cooling grease tugged at her skin.
Emily pursed her lips, her brows slightly furrowed. She knew April would be like this. Always looking out for her.
She glanced over at Philippe, who was hovering awkwardly near the doorway. "I won’t be alone! This man, Philippe was it? He can come with me. He knows the area, right?"
April narrowed her dark eyes, her brows knitting together instantly. "You don’t even know him. All of a sudden you want him to escort you? That is not an option."
Philippe swallowed hard, clearing his throat as he took a cautious step forward. "I... if it helps, there’s a boutique just a few blocks away. It’s not high luxury, but they have clean, high-quality clothes if you don’t mind wearing something standard..." He paused, his voice shrinking under April’s sharp gaze. "I can show her the fastest route, but... I understand if you don’t trust a stranger."
"It’s not the clothes," April countered, her tone cool and unyielding. "I don’t care about standard clothes as long as I can wear them. My problem is with you. I’m not letting my sister wander off with someone I barely know."
"I’ll be completely fine, April," Emily pleaded.
"No," April said flatly. She cast a brief glance toward the door where Samuel was guarding outside, but she knew he wouldn’t leave her side again today—not after what had just transpired.
"My personal bodyguard can accompany them," Xavier interjected smoothly, pulling out his phone. "He’s stationed at the lower entrance. He will ensure Emily’s safety."
April looked at Xavier, weighing his words before giving a curt nod. "As long as you trust him."
Xavier tapped his screen, making a brief, low command to his head guard before putting his phone away. "It’s handled. You can get out of those clothes now, April."
April watched as Emily rushed off with a man she had practically been giving googly eyes for the past six hours. She had practically called him kind, reliable and gave him all sorts of compliments all at face value.
She was worried for her sister. She may get tricked or worse... used. But Emily was not a child—not her child—she was an adult. So she basically had no right to make all her decisions for her.
She could only advise her.
And it was up to Emily to take that advice.
But April sure as hell wouldn’t let her be if she could clearly see her own flesh and blood walking down a path that would bring her pain. If it was to drag her off that path, she would do it in a heartbeat.
The apocalypse was coming. Someone unrelated was irrelevant.
Inside the attached bathroom, April let out a long, heavy exhale. The suite lacked a deep soaking tub, but the rain shower was hot and powerful.
She had stripped off the filthy, ruined coat and dress, stepping beneath the steaming water.
She washed her hair twice with the suite’s shampoo, scrubbing until whatever trace of the foul, heavy kitchen oil left was completely gone from her skin. The heat restored the color to her face, washing away the lingering chill of the murkiness and then she clicked her tongue on remembering that supervisor.
I definitely should’ve whipped her.
But Nat had taken care of it... Somehow. She was in worse hands all because she thought it was nice to bully someone who was already in a mess for her own relief.
April detested it so much her teeth ground together.
When she finished, she dried off and wrapped a large, white bath towel snugly around her chest, securing the tuck above her bust.
She could’ve just gotten clothes from her storage dimension. She didn’t forget that she had loads of clothes there but in that moment, her mind had been cut off entirely by Emily’s words.
Her sister had an effect on her, that’s for sure. She got paranoid and forgot the most important thing, as well as the last convenient excuse to stop her from leaving with that man.
April sighed, shoving her fingers through her wet hair as she clicked her tongue.
Now, she didn’t even feel like taking out the clothes from the storage and decided to wait for Emily.
She would wear those instead so her sister’s effort at least did not go to waste.
Stepping out into the main suite to dry her hair, she found Xavier standing near the desk.
The moment the bathroom door opened, Xavier turned—and froze.
