Apocalypse Regression: I Am the SSS-Rank Nightmare
Chapter 82: The Rising PlatformChapter 82: Chapter 82: The Rising Platform
The large platform finished rising with a final, resonant clang that traveled through the metal plain like a struck bell.
Leon stopped a short distance away and studied it. The structure was easily eighty meters across, a perfect circle of layered black alloy whose surface was covered in moving circuits of silver light. Concentric rings rotated slowly in opposite directions, aligning and realigning in complex patterns. At the center stood a raised dais supporting a single tall frame—taller and denser than the previous constructs, its plates etched with finer circuitry, its sensor band a continuous ring of cold white light.
Around the central frame, twelve more constructs unfolded from recessed bays along the platform’s edge. These were different from the earlier enforcement units. Their limbs were longer, their movements smoother, and each carried a pair of adaptive weapons that shifted configuration even as they took position. Barrier projectors along the platform’s rim ignited, forming a layered dome of silver light that enclosed the entire structure.
The floor had stopped sending patrols.
This was a dedicated response node.
Leon opened his status once, briefly.

Mana had dropped only slightly from the previous engagements. Everything else remained stable. He closed the panel and started forward again.
The barrier dome reacted the moment he came within thirty meters. Silver light intensified, and a focused beam lanced toward him from one of the rim projectors. Leon did not dodge. He let the Aura of the End-Game meet it head-on. The beam entered the domain, lost structure, and collapsed into fading sparks. A second and third beam followed from different angles. Each met the same end.
The constructs on the platform adjusted their stance. The central frame raised one arm, and a complex geometric sigil formed in the air above the dais—rings within rings of silver light rotating at high speed. The pressure in the area increased. Spatial density rose sharply, attempting to slow movement and disrupt skill activation.
Leon walked straight into it.
The Void Monarch Set and the nature of his class ignored the suppression. His pace did not change. When he reached the outer edge of the barrier dome he placed one palm against the silver light and pushed a controlled pulse of Finality into it. Cracks of gray ash spread outward from the point of contact. The dome held for less than two seconds before a section large enough for him to pass through simply disintegrated.
He stepped onto the platform.
The twelve adaptive constructs opened fire simultaneously. Their weapons cycled rapidly between focused beams, spreading arcs, and solid energy blades. The air filled with intersecting lines of silver light. Leon moved through the barrage with economy, the domain unraveling every projectile that came too close. When the first construct attempted to close into melee, he met it directly. The Abyssal Stinger slipped past a shifting energy blade and into the central chassis. Necrotic Injection shut the unit down before it could complete its next reconfiguration.
The others tried to adapt as a group, spreading out and attempting to overwhelm him with overlapping fields of fire. Leon did not let them establish control. He advanced in short, decisive bursts, never remaining in one firing lane long enough for the coordinated pattern to fully form. Each time a construct overextended, the dagger found a critical junction. Barrier nodes along the platform rim flared and died under the steady pressure of the domain.
The central frame finally moved.
It stepped down from the dais with surprising speed for its size, both arms unfolding into heavy multi-barreled arrays. At the same time the rotating sigil above the platform tightened, focusing the spatial pressure into a narrower, heavier field directly around Leon. The metal under his boots vibrated. The air thickened.
Leon answered by expanding the Aura of the End-Game to its full radius.
Absolute darkness rolled across the platform. Silver circuits dimmed. The focused spatial field collapsed under the weight of Finality. The central construct’s sensor band flickered as its targeting solutions degraded. Leon closed the remaining distance in three steps and drove the Abyssal Stinger toward the primary junction at the base of its neck.
The unit reacted faster than the previous models. One arm swept around in a heavy arc, energy blade forming mid-swing. Leon ducked under it, planted his free hand against the construct’s chest plate, and released a point-blank Calamity Tide. Violet fire punched inward. Internal systems overloaded in a cascade of failing lights. He followed immediately with Finality Eclipse, the concentrated concept of decay tearing through the core housing.
The tall frame locked in place, then began to break apart from the inside. Silver light fled its circuits. Plates separated and fell. Within moments the central unit was a collapsing heap of dark metal and fading embers.
The remaining constructs lasted less than twenty seconds after their command unit fell. Without the coordinating presence, their adaptive patterns lost coherence. Leon finished them methodically, one after another, until the platform was quiet.
Silence returned to the Iron Circuit, broken only by the soft settling of cooling metal and the distant, steady pulse of the spires.
Leon stood in the center of the platform and looked up.
High above, three of the silver rings had fully realigned. Their rotation had slowed, and the light running along their rims had shifted from pale silver to a colder, sharper white. The floor’s local authority was no longer reacting.
It was focusing.
A new section of the plain ahead began to change. Metal plates folded back in a long, straight line, revealing a recessed transit channel filled with stable violet light. At the far end of the channel, a much larger structure was becoming visible through the haze—an angular fortress of black alloy and moving circuitry that rose higher than any of the surrounding spires.
The true local authority node of this sector.
Leon checked the two relics in his inventory. The bone shard and the incomplete core remained quiet, but he could feel a faint, residual sensitivity to the denser mechanical energies of Floor 9. They were not reacting with recognition this time. Only with a low, watchful stillness.
He stepped off the ruined platform and began walking toward the transit channel.
The Aura of the End-Game spread ahead of him across the perfect metal surface, leaving a temporary trail of dulled circuits in his wake. Behind him the response platform powered down completely, its lights dying one by one.
Ahead, the angular fortress waited.
Floor 9 had finished testing him with enforcement units.
The next answer would come from something that actually held authority here.
