Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person

Chapter 593 - 505: Regaining Confidence

"The Yama Corps’ big boss has led the zombies here!"

"Huh? Why bring them here..."

"You’ve been watching for half a day, what are you looking at? Bringing the zombies here is obviously to take them down, unless you want them cooked for you!"

A group of people standing by the second and third-floor windows discussed fervently, the sight of the zombies’ frenzied rush left them trembling, but whenever they thought of the solid fortress assembled by the Yama Corps downstairs, their hearts grew much calmer.

Some had previously felt resentful watching the fighters eat meat, drink alcohol, and enjoy themselves, but at this moment, all past grudges vanished into thin air. The fighters were risking their lives to guard the camp’s safety; without them in front, these ordinary members would be in a miserable situation.

"Get ready, everyone prepare, that guy sprouting black smoke is coming as well, damn it, all because of it being slow, wasting my damn time!"

Xiaoshuai rushed into the mall entrance, gasping and cursing.

It turned out, after he started attracting zombies, he suddenly realized a serious problem: the black gas zombie’s movement was unexpectedly slow, almost like regular zombies in cold weather before the snowfall, and in just a blink, they were left far behind by the big-headed zombies and current regular zombies!

Xiaoshuai tried to ignore it, thinking it should be able to follow along as he sprinted ahead, only to find the black gas zombie had actually lost track!

This drove him crazy; he wanted to ignore it but reconsidered since he agreed to lead the black gas zombie back, he must accomplish it.

In his frantic sprint plus the initial distance gap, he was leading the zombies by a couple hundred meters. Xiaoshuai quickly devised a plan and ducked into a shop beside the street. Once the pursuing big-headed zombies and regular zombies lost their target, he jumped from the second floor to the shop’s back, circled back to re-encounter the black gas zombie...

If he kept to the original route with the black gas zombie, it would clash directly with those big-headed and regular zombies confused due to losing their target, forcing him to take another path!

It was supposed to be settled in one go, but he made two detours, with the reroute delaying quite a bit, turning a three to five-minute task into a twenty-minute ordeal. Luckily, the mission was completed without any danger, though he ran so hard he almost lost his breath, his face turning pale, and sweat like beans flowed down his neck.

"Well done, Xiaoshuai, you’ve done well, rest easy and watch the battle, we’ll take it from here!"

Zhang Su watched as the regular zombies stepped madly out from beside the office building, and while speaking to Xiaoshuai.

"Everyone, bullets are limited; aim carefully and pick your targets, anyone who sprays recklessly will be cleaning toilets tomorrow!"

With the order given, no one hesitated; they began shooting right away.

Rattling sounds, popping sounds, and bursts...

A symphony of gunfire blended, the organized and disciplined defense battle felt more comfortable compared to a surprise encounter. This preparation involved not just fortifications and weapons but psychological aspects too—waiting for the enemy to take the bait and go for the kill is completely different from yelling upon encountering the enemy!

The fire sparked on the dim street side, the lighting wasn’t entirely inadequate, still clear enough to shoot accurately. The calm mind improved shooting precision; the fastest zombies only made it to the greenery of the Lego Mall before being shot down, while some were unlucky to get sniped right as they peeped out from the office building.

The number of regular zombies was much higher than Xiaoshuai reported, about fifty, likely attracted from shops beside the road on the way back, but it was trivial against the firepower. Especially with Tan Huajun leading the sharpshooters, the ratio between bullets spent and kill counts was beautiful, about three to five bullets needed per kill!

There was no gap; as the final few regular zombies hadn’t fallen, the big-headed ones came charging out with loud thuds. It was formidable like a small locomotive, so let alone biting or attacking—being hit alone would make one cough up blood.

"Eh?"

Lu Yubo asked curiously, "Is this big-headed zombie mute?"

"Seems like it, no sound, really damn strange..."

Immediately, several stationed at the Lego Mall noticed the anomaly; they were used to hearing the zombies’ disgusting roars from their throats, and suddenly being deprived of it felt strange.

"I think this counts as being strengthened; we should stay vigilant all the time!"

Zhang Su said earnestly.

Regular zombies foolishly shout upon seeing humans; even when there aren’t any, their throats still emit random noises, making it easy to track their movements, impossible to hide, which is really convenient for humans fighting zombies.

In contrast, the big-headed zombies open their mouths wide yet make no sound unless they start a mad dash forward. Despite calling it a mad dash, their fast movement style is more akin to giant strides, creating slight sounds only then—otherwise, they are silent!

Exaggeratedly speaking, there could be several big-headed zombies hiding behind a door and you’d feel nothing before opening it!

The big-headed zombies visibly consist of males and females, though why they become like this is unknown. Regardless of their gender when alive, it’s not important; they are quite similar in size after strengthening, likely with similar strengths.

Everyone quickly understood Zhang Su’s words, and those having first close-up encounters with big-headed zombies dropped their dismissal.

Rattling sounds...

Thud.

No matter the shooting skills, everyone wanted to join the battle, firing away. Unsurprisingly, a big-headed zombie’s head got blasted open, its body inertia rolling forward like a tumbleweed, flipping twice on the road, blocked by several regular zombie corpses.

Thud thud...

Quickly, two more big-headed zombies met their doom under the hot weapons.

"Blew your head off, hahaha! I hit it, Sister Pang didn’t even fire!"

"You’re lying ’cause it’s obviously my shot; don’t believe it, we’ll check the bullet later..."

Nobody argued previously because Tan Huajun was seriously shooting; catching her during a magazine change, others immediately boasted, feeling they scored a coup!

"So satisfying, finally avenged, damn it."

Having escaped a near zombie wipeout, the fighters were exhilarated, discovering that big-headed zombies were nothing too threatening, still being shot down with one bullet in the end!

Gun in hand, world in grasp!

The fighters with mediocre shooting skills vowed secretly to practice hard after this ordeal, not considering bullet supply issues...

Thud thud, thud!

Absent the regular zombies leading the charge, the lone big-headed ones were hard-pressed, ultimately wiped out in several concentrated shots. The luckiest one barely ran onto the road without crossing the double yellow lines before crashing!

"Brother Su, aren’t we impressive, hahaha."

"Gunpowder and firearms, truly great inventions!"

"Learn from Sister Pang; I want to be a sniper too..."

People yearned to have strength like Zhang Su, able to fight big-headed zombies solo. However, clearly using guns was simpler, and training marksmanship was much easier than achieving Zhang Su’s combat skills!

Hot weapons effectively narrowed the gap between ordinary folks and experts, restoring everyone’s confidence.

"Don’t get excited too soon, the real big guys haven’t been dealt with yet!"

Zhang Su gazed at the lifeless zombies sprawled on the road, feeling ease yet resisted showing it too obviously, especially since real foes hadn’t appeared, so why celebrate prematurely?

"Brother Su, we still have bullets in our guns, not afraid of mutated zombies, watch me blast their heads!"

Lu Yubo bragged, regardless of the method used to win the battle, it was ultimately a small victory with no casualties, worth the joy.

This term "mutated zombie" was sometimes used to classify zombies into levels. When regular zombies and big-headed ones are together, big-headed zombies are mutant zombies; but once even more unique black gas zombies emerge, big-headed zombies degrade to stronger regular zombies, being nothing special aside from size, and too many in numbers.
