Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 610 - 518: Is There Really Such a Good Thing?"Following Brother Wei, you must have confidence!"
"Let’s do it, Brother Wei, it’s up to you!"
"Fortune is found in danger; we survived the disaster, so we deserve the blessings to come."
A few combatants were instantly filled with zeal.
"Brother Wei, with so few of us, can we really manage this?"
While everyone was full of ambition, a tall and strong man hesitated and said.
"Da Ka, you’re a big guy, why are you so timid?"
Immediately, someone expressed their dissatisfaction, slapping Da Ka on the head. Da Ka hung his head, not daring to resist.
Ding Wei stood up and lit a cigarette, saying sinisterly, "You all saw what the zombies were like this afternoon. I don’t believe Liao Youzhi and his crew can handle it easily. They might be trapped in the north and unable to return, whether dead or alive, it’s hard to say. Breaking through the siege, now is Absolute Justice’s best chance to take over the north of Qin City!"
The ordinary members downstairs couldn’t hear Ding Wei’s bold words, otherwise they would surely roll their eyes. Is that breaking through the siege?
Clearly, it’s fleeing chaotically and not knowing where to go, like a dog that lost its home, using human lives to pave the way, or else everyone will die!
"Brother Wei, should we take a trip to Xinglong Hua Mansion first to check the situation? If the Little Eagle Association..."
"Shut up!"
Da Ka wanted to suggest going to the Little Eagle Association to verify the situation again. If the combatants of several factions went north, they could rest easy; otherwise, they could head to the car yard since it was already cleared out.
But as soon as he opened his mouth, Ding Wei abruptly interrupted him. Ding Wei didn’t like Da Ka at all. How could he dampen everyone’s morale during such an inspiring moment? If someone else had made the suggestion, he might have considered it, but at this moment, he didn’t want to hear the indecisive Da Ka speak at all.
"Let’s go, inform those downstairs that it’s time to move. Didn’t Zhang Xin say the Survivor Alliance has abundant resources? Let’s stash the resources we brought out and come back for them once things settle down!"
With cunning, Ding Wei made a decision.
"Brother Wei, in my opinion, there’s no need to bring along those useless guys downstairs; they’re just holding us back!"
"No way!" Ding Wei shook his head. "It’s several kilometers to the Lego Mall, and who knows what might happen on the way. There might be places where we can use them!"
It wasn’t out of kindness; with a wave of his hand, Ding Wei led people downstairs.
Following them were more than a dozen ordinary members, gathering in a luxurious room on the top floor of the entertainment center. There were men, women, young, and old, all with faces marked by lingering fear. Upon learning they had to set out again, their hearts filled with terror and apprehension.
Yet, they had no right to resist; it wasn’t as simple as being abandoned...
During the escape, many initially had a chance to survive but ended up being used as cannon fodder. If they provoked the combatants, the outcome was predictable — they would be used as human shields.
Even with immense fear, someone stood up to question.
"B-brothers, it’s so late, can’t we wait until daylight to set off?"
The speaker was a young man who should have become a combatant but was left with only one arm and one blind eye, completely losing the chance to wield a weapon, leaving him to do chores in the camp for a meager living.
"Useless thing, is it your turn to speak here?"
A man wearing a leather cap stepped forward, kicking the young man in the shoulder, knocking him to the ground, rolling half a circle.
"If you want to come with us, follow quietly. If not, stay here waiting to die, I have no objections!"
With cold indifference, Ding Wei said, squatting down to tighten his shoelaces, then looking up to see that the man on the ground was wearing a nearly new pair of work boots!
"Damn it, my shoes are worn-out, and you’re dressed so nicely, take them off for me!"
Ding Wei’s cotton shoes were indeed pathetic; probably torn by zombies during their escape. The right shoe’s tongue was gone, constantly needing tightening. Meanwhile, the other guy somehow had a pair of classic Caterpillar work boots, which seemed sturdy just by looking.
"I only have this pair..."
Smack!
Before he could finish, a slap landed on his face.
"Brother Wei taking a liking to your boots is your blessing. Hand them over quickly."
"Dare to whine? Damn it, who do you think you are!"
Two combatants hurried forward to teach the ungrateful Tian Fan a lesson, feeling a bit regretful themselves for not noticing earlier, blaming the blind guy for being too low-profile.
"I’ve been putting my life on the line up front, helping you all escape, and you can’t even spare a pair of shoes for me? Damn, I order you to take them off for me immediately!"
Enraged, Ding Wei threw his own shoe at the man’s body. There should be shoes among the supplies brought back from the car yard, but he was too lazy to search for them and didn’t really see these burdens as human.
"Please, Tian Fan is ignorant; this should be an offering to you, Boss Ding. Don’t hold a grudge against a child. They’ll come off right away..."
A somewhat elderly woman, sensing the situation was about to go bad, rushed forward, pouncing on Tian Fan’s feet to help remove the boots. If it had come to the combatants taking action, the results would have been worse.
"Bosses, where are we going? If there’s anything to carry, give it to us. You’ve worked so hard."
A man in his forties, smiling obsequiously, tried to divert attention.
The ordinary members were very conscious, knowing that trying to please the combatants was futile; it was better to foster internal camaraderie and warmth. When someone was under attack, they’d try to find ways to help each other.
"Here, Boss Ding, please put these on quickly, don’t catch a cold."
The old woman deftly took off the boots and handed them to Ding Wei, well aware of how to avoid risk.
Ding Wei looked at the work boots, admiring the workmanship and stitching, along with the decent material — definitely high-quality goods.
He gave the barefoot Tian Fan a displeased glare, angrily saying, "A blind guy like you dare to steal the camp’s supplies? Don’t worry, I’ll settle this with you once we’re settled, spit!"
Were the boots stolen?
Not really, they were taken off a dead man’s feet...
Sliding into the boots, Ding Wei felt warm and comfortable, chuckled with satisfaction, his anger dissipating mostly, he said, "Leave everything you brought out behind, no one can take anything with them. Hurry up, there’s no time to wait for you!"
Finishing, Ding Wei stomped the ground a few times, comfortably leading the combatants downstairs.
