Apocalypse: the Most Ruthless Person
Chapter 613 - 521: I Will Never Let You Down!"Hehe, a bunch of fools..."
"Hmm?"
Zhang Su scratched his itchy eyebrow and was about to speak when he heard the man leading them let out a cold laugh, completely ignoring the insulting part.
"You seem dissatisfied, weren’t you just saying that we would be swallowed by the horde of zombies?"
Zhang Su walked up to the man and asked.
"Heh heh, don’t act all high and mighty with me. If you provide us with good food and drink, maybe I’ll plead for you. Otherwise, after one more meal, you’ll be feeding the zombies, hahaha!"
The man laughed defiantly, tilting his head to the side, as if he were the one in control despite being pinned to the ground.
"Trying to scare us, huh? I’ll send you to hell now!"
Yang Xinqi was infuriated and pulled out his weapon, ready to pierce the man’s head.
"Hold on, don’t be impulsive!"
Zhang Su raised his hand to stop Yang Xinqi. Although some ordinary members were shouting that they knew about Ding Wei’s situation, people would say anything for a chance at survival; not everything could be trusted.
He slowly crouched down, getting ready to interrogate the man in front, when someone shouted from the crowd behind him.
"Brother Zhang, just kill these beasts, we really know a lot of intel and will tell you all!"
Zhang Su’s ears perked up at the familiar voice. He looked up and quickly found the speaker, unable to see the face but sensing familiarity from the silhouette and tone.
"Useless! What nonsense are you saying? Hahaha, the one shouting is a disabled fool, a piece of trash in the camp, do you think he knows anything? Listen to him, you’ll die without a clue how!"
The man pretending to be Ding Wei heard the shouting behind him, panic surfaced in his heart, but he still maintained a tough attitude.
"Noble men, we really know everything, the Avengers of Justice are demons, we are merely their slaves, believe us."
A middle-aged woman spoke with a hoarse voice.
The Avengers of Justice’s actions were far from righteous from any perspective, playing contrasts was Ding Wei’s talent.
"We were forced, no choice..."
"Save us, we’ll expose their crimes to you."
"Ding Wei hid a truckload of supplies in the Development Zone, we know the way, I’ll lead you..."
"You know nothing, it’s pitch black, can you even see?"
With two people shouting, more people started to yell, launching another round of arguments.
This time Zhang Su didn’t stop the bickering; he exchanged a glance with Yuwen. This was the outcome of ruling through oppression and fear. When problems arose, they wouldn’t uphold the forces behind them, lacking cohesion and a sense of belonging. The first thing they’d do with a gun in hand was eliminate their former oppressors!
Swish, thud...
"Ah!"
"Aaah..."
Zhang Su didn’t bother shouting for quiet; he unsheathed his military knife and, without any words, slashed at the leader’s upper arm, severing it on the spot. Blood splattered five steps, and along with the arm, a walkie-talkie dropped!
No need for Ju Mumio to detect emotions, Zhang Su saw the intense killing intent in the eyes of several combat personnel. Since people claimed they knew intel, such individuals were of no value to keep alive, but they could be used for now.
The effect was excellent; after the clean cut, apart from the unlucky fellow who lost his arm, no one else spoke.
Zhang Su picked up the blood-stained walkie-talkie from the ground, then took out his own and spoke a couple of words to connect with Ding Wei. The man’s waist gave a response, so Zhang Su chuckled, saying, "Looks like this one is used to contact Ding Wei?"
"Don’t you dare expect me to utter a word!"
The man was as stubborn as Da Gen back then, resilient to the core, perhaps thinking that with an arm severed, he was indifferent to life and death.
"Alright, no problem, I’m not in a hurry."
Zhang Su put the walkie-talkie in his pocket. He wasn’t rushing to contact Ding Wei, nudging the severed arm aside with his foot, and addressed the crowd, "That young guy who called me Brother Zhang just now, raise your head so I can see you!"
"Good man, brother, he’s over there, he was the one calling!"
Pan Guoliang chimed in, releasing the grip from the back of the man’s neck.
"It’s me, Brother Zhang... I’m Tian Fan, I lived in the building in front of yours, do you remember me? We first met on the rooftop when you threw your phone to save Brother Qin!"
Given some freedom, Tian Fan raised his head to see the silhouette walking toward him in the darkness.
"Tian Fan..."
Zhang Su slightly lifted his head to look at the pitch-black ceiling; a familiar face flashed in his mind, accompanied by a surge of memories.
"Oh my..."
Zheng Xinyu gasped, covering her mouth in surprise; she hadn’t expected to encounter a neighbor from the early days of the disaster here.
"Old Pan, let him go."
Zhang Su gestured to Pan Guoliang to step back.
"Alright, let’s talk!"
Pan Guoliang swiftly stood up, pulling Tian Fan to his feet. However, he wasn’t being considerate, merely changing his method of restraining Tian Fan to prevent any trouble.
Tian Fan didn’t care about Pan Guoliang’s motives; in the backlight, he could only see Zhang Su’s shadow and spoke with tears and emotion, "Brother Zhang, I, I..."
"You’ve suffered quite a lot, haven’t you? Come, tell me what happened?"
Zhang Su noticed Tian Fan had lost sight in one eye and was missing an arm. He remembered when Duan Wuhu mentioned Tian Fan, he hadn’t become like this yet. These times must have been tough for him. However, after offering some comfort, Zhang Su went straight to the point; small talk could wait. He didn’t even know yet whether Tian Fan was a friend or foe.
