"This..."
Standing nearby, Li Zongkai awkwardly held onto the keys.
"These old, broken locks take more than five seconds only when the cold makes my hands numb and clumsy!"
Pang Dakun triumphantly weighed the chain in his hand.
"Once the wound heals, the pain’s forgotten, don’t get cocky!"
As Zhang Su removed the horizontal bar, he scolded Pang Dakun, thinking he might have been traumatized by the explosion while unlocking at the Lego Mall before, but it seems he wasn’t.
Soon, the gates of the barracks opened, with two people assigned to guard the fire-breathing zombie while the rest of the group filed into the barracks.
Everyone snuck along the walls, peeking inside, with no one caring about the nearly decapitated corpses; this is basic operation for King Yama!
"Oh, brother, I-I’m Guan Senmiao, I’m really from the Survivor Alliance, stop hitting me!"
In the hall, after declaring his identity, Guan Senmiao quickly ran away from the people of Civilization Guardian, only to be grabbed by those from Bajiazi Village and receive another beating.
"Your comrades don’t believe you’re undercover; it seems you’re usually really loyal, at least you act very honest. Since you say you’re from the Survivor Alliance, say something to convince me!"
Brother Dog stomped on Guan Senmiao’s chest, looking down and asking.
"I... I volunteered for the night patrol to gather intel on everyone’s situation. The night before last, and the night before that, it was me, I overheard Chairman Li contacting the regular army and quickly reported it to Leader Liao..."
Facing life and death, Guan Senmiao dared not conceal anything, speaking rapidly, faster than a Type 95 automatic rifle, recounting the joining of the North City Four Tigers to campaign against Celestial Horse Island, among many other past events.
Each revelation darkened the faces of the Civilization Guardian members, not expecting such a traitor among them, and worse yet, a seemingly insignificant Little Karami, making them feel deeply humiliated.
"You son of a bitch!"
Dazhuang and others gritted their teeth, their hatred for Bajiazi Village people less than that for Guan Senmiao.
Guan Senmiao could naturally feel the "greetings" from Dazhuang and others, but he had no time to care now, just looking at Brother Dog, as if to say, my determined eyes vouch for the truth of what I’ve said.
"Then tell me..."
Clang, clang, clang...
Brother Dog was about to continue questioning Guan Senmiao when suddenly he heard the sound of metal hitting the floor.
The combatants from Bajiazi Village, huddled together, looked puzzled as the sound came from amongst them. What happened next was a chilling twist!
Boom!
A spinning grenade exploded in the most crowded area of the Bajiazi Village personnel...
The explosion rang out unexpectedly in the dimly lit hall, with bursts of fire lifting several folding chairs, followed by howls and roars of anger.
"Ah, there are still stragglers, enemy attack, enemy attack!"
"Where? Damn it, where?"
"My leg, ah, my leg..."
Da-da, da-da...
Right after, before the chaos in the hall ended, gunfire rang out, perfectly synced with the explosion.
Over a hundred people in the hall were utterly bewildered.
"Get down, stay down!"
The Civilization Guardian members, originally crowded around the stage, didn’t know if the ones throwing grenades and shooting randomly were enemies or allies, desperately huddling into corners.
Seventy or more people gathered in a heap, those on the outer edges squinting with distorted expressions, trying to cover their ears against the gunfire. With their hands tied, they could only bury their heads into the crowd, like ostriches terrified by the shock.
Buzz...
"Now’s the chance, brothers, kill them all, attack!"
An electric buzz echoed from the speakers in the hall, followed by a loud shout that overwhelmed the gunfire. Due to the rapid pace of speaking, the initial words weren’t clear, but the command "attack" struck their nerves, vibrating their eardrums.
The shout stunned the Civilization Guardian crowd huddling in the corner for a second. Though they couldn’t understand, the voice sounded very familiar...
No time to think, the relentless gunfire and flying bullets terrified them too much to ponder.
The Bajiazi Village people, adept with cold weapons, weren’t proficient with firearms; they seized guns from Civilization Guardian members but couldn’t use them properly, caught off guard and in chaos.
Many were taken down instantly; even those who reacted quickly and found cover couldn’t raise their heads. Wooden folding chairs shattered into splinters, bullets striking metal frames with sparks flying.
Don’t even think about fighting back; keeping your life would be like winning the lottery. The excellent rifle in hand felt like just a firewood stick!
"Whoever you are, we’re not from Civilization Guardian. Don’t kill innocents, we’re from Bajiazi Village!"
In the corner on the other side of the stage, Brother Dog curled up, holding the body of Guan Senmiao, who had already been fatally shot. His expression was complex, filled with anger, unwillingness, and fear.
When the grenade exploded, his first thought was that the people from Civilization Guardian had returned, but he was confident he could easily take a few hostages. However, the shouting from the loudspeaker made him feel as if he’d fallen into an ice hole!
The message was clear: these people were also coming for Civilization Guardian. Were they making wedding clothes for someone else?
There was no time to think too much. When the gunshot sounded, he deftly dropped to the ground, keeping Guan Senmiao, whose soul had scattered, in a swift move and then used him as a human shield, shrinking into the corner and barely saving himself.
Brother Dog’s shout seemed to have an effect; the gunfire gradually ceased. But when he moved Guan Senmiao aside and looked at his brothers, he felt dizzy with despair.
They were all dead, all of them wiped out... The sight of so many corpses was even more tragic than when they had escaped the village!
Were they really all dead?
In fact, not everyone was.
"I surrender, I surrender, don’t kill me. I’m not from Civilization Guardian!"
"I surrender too!"
"I surrender, I won’t be killed if I give up my gun!"
They actively proposed surrender, throwing out their weapons from behind the folding stools as if they were hot potatoes.
The scenario repeated about an hour ago when Bajiazi Village played the fool and ambushed Civilization Guardian, seizing control of the barracks, only to face an unknown attack an hour later, ending in disaster...
Bang!
The door of the hall was kicked open. Although the sky was gloomy, it was still brighter than inside the hall. Strewn beams of light painted a bleak picture for everyone to see.
Against the light, Brother Dog saw a figure appear at the door, seemingly holding a knife in the left hand and a rifle in the right.
"Who the hell are you?"
Brother Dog roared with rage. If anger could turn into flames, a Fire-breathing Zombie would have to call Brother Dog "Daddy" right now.
"Yama Corps, you may call me King Yama."
A voice with calm yet inexplicable authority spoke, an authority forged through grenade explosions and rifle shots!
Zhang Su didn’t feel there was anything wrong with Brother Dog’s anger. From Bajiazi Village’s perspective, they were entirely justified in their anger, but that didn’t prevent their annihilation!
"Hey, did you hear that? Brother Su said we’re Yama Corps, hehe."
Outside the hall, Liu Yao nudged Yang Xinqi with a strange smile on his face.
Yang Xinqi gave Liu Yao a speechless look, as if to say, "You have no shame!"
Yama Corps... King Yama?
If Brother Dog heard such an introduction at the negotiation table, he would have burst into laughter. What kind of nonsense is this!
But the smoke hadn’t cleared, the smell of blood still lingered in the hall, with bodies of comrades strewn all over. All of this instilled fear, as if he’d really seen the Grim Reaper seeking revenge.
The people from Civilization Guardian looked at each other, confused by this strange title, which sounded somewhat terrifying.
"Since you’re King Yama, give me back my brother’s life..."
When fear reaches its peak, it turns into anger. Such was the case with Brother Dog; fear broke through the barriers of reason in his heart. Suddenly, he pushed Guan Senmiao’s body aside, raised the rifle hanging from his shoulder, and aimed to shoot at the figure at the door!
Bang!
Thud.
Fire flashed from the hall window, and a bullet sliced through the smoke, piercing a cotton hat, entering through the temple, and instantly scrambling brain tissue. Don’t even talk about pulling the trigger for revenge; he didn’t even have the chance to become a zombie...
Brother Dog’s eyes were fixed on the figure at the door; he didn’t know where the bullet came from, but it didn’t matter anymore. His consciousness dissipated rapidly, and as much as he wanted to hold onto it, he couldn’t grasp it at all. The rifle slipped from his hands, and his body tilted to the side, dead on the ground.
"Target eliminated, secure!"
A female voice rang out, clear and full of valor.
"Anyone else? Who else will challenge the Yama Corps?"
The shadow at the door stepped into the hall, finally appearing in the light.
Those bold enough could see what the newcomer looked like, but alas, the figure wore a strangely shaped hat with the brim pressed so low that it almost completely obscured the face.
