Apocalypse: Transmigrated General's Daughter Uses Space to Survive
Chapter 680: Sending Ye Xuan AwayThe black clouds continued gathering above City K.
They spread faster than ordinary storm clouds, covering the sky until no sunlight could pass through.
The entire city became dark.
Only the flashes of lightning moving between the clouds provided brief moments of light.
Ye Xuan looked up and immediately noticed something was wrong.
The clouds had already begun spreading toward him.
He was standing within the range of Chu Miao’s tribulation.
If he remained on the hotel roof, the heavenly dao would not care that he was only there to protect his wife. It would consider him another participant and increase the strength of the tribulation.
He had already gone through seventy-two bolts of lightning.
He had no desire to repeat the experience so soon.
More importantly, his presence would make Chu Miao’s breakthrough harder.
Chu Miao opened her eyes.
"Ah Xuan, enter the Soul Ring."
Ye Xuan had already reached the same conclusion, but he still looked at the zombies climbing toward the roof.
The nearest one was only two floors below them.
"Wait until the first bolt falls."
"No."
"The zombies are still approaching."
"They won’t reach me."
As soon as the tribulation clouds formed, the heavenly dao had started locking onto the living beings within its range.
The zombies were not truly alive in the usual sense, but they could absorb energy and grow stronger. That was enough for the heavenly dao to recognize their existence.
The first lightning bolt had not fallen, but the zombies closest to the hotel were already marked.
They sensed it too.
The ones climbing the walls suddenly stopped.
Several lost their grip and fell, crashing into the zombies below.
The high-level zombies on nearby rooftops also froze.
Their instincts told them that approaching Chu Miao would only draw more attention from the terrifying presence in the sky.
Even the intelligent zombie that had spoken earlier no longer cared about attacking the barrier.
It turned and ran toward the edge of the sealed area.
Chu Miao looked at Ye Xuan.
"You see? I no longer need protection."
Ye Xuan did not appear convinced.
"The lightning hasn’t fallen yet."
"If you remain here when it does, I may have to face twice as many strikes."
"Not twice."
"Would you like to stay and find out?"
Ye Xuan fell silent.
It was impossible to argue with that.
He walked toward her and crouched beside the protective array.
"Call me if anything goes wrong."
"What can you do after I call you?"
"Come out."
"And allow the heavenly dao to strike both of us?"
"If you are in danger, I won’t care about the consequences."
Chu Miao knew he meant every word.
If her life was truly threatened, Ye Xuan would come out even if doing so multiplied the strength of the tribulation.
She reached through the array and held his hand.
"I will be fine."
Ye Xuan looked at her for a moment before tightening his fingers around hers.
He was not worried because he doubted her strength.
His wife was more experienced than he was when it came to cultivation and lightning tribulations.
But understanding that did not stop him from worrying.
"Don’t absorb more lightning than your body can withstand," he said.
"I know."
"And don’t provoke the heavenly dao."
"When have I ever done that?"
Ye Xuan raised an eyebrow.
Chu Miao decided not to wait for him to answer.
She opened the entrance to the Soul Ring beneath his feet.
"Go inside."
"Wait..."
Before Ye Xuan could finish, the spatial force pulled him into the Soul Ring.
The entrance closed immediately.
Chu Miao smiled.
If she continued listening to him, the first lightning bolt would arrive while he was still giving instructions.
Inside the Soul Ring, Ye Xuan appeared beside the mansion.
The four guardian beasts were waiting there.
The Vermilion Bird was perched on the roof, the Black Tortoise rested beside the spiritual spring, while the White Tiger and Azure Dragon stood in the courtyard.
They all turned toward Ye Xuan.
"Master sent you in?" the Vermilion Bird asked.
Ye Xuan looked at it.
"No. I decided to enter."
The Black Tortoise slowly raised its head.
"Of course."
Its tone made it clear that it did not believe him.
Ye Xuan ignored it and closed his eyes.
Through his connection with Chu Miao, he could sense what was happening outside.
He could not see everything as clearly as she could, but he could feel her condition and the changes in her spiritual energy.
The Vermilion Bird flew down from the roof.
"Has the tribulation started?"
"Not yet."
"Then why did you enter so early?"
Ye Xuan opened his eyes.
"Do you want to go outside and check?"
The Vermilion Bird immediately flew back to the roof.
It was only asking out of curiosity. There was no need to risk getting struck by heavenly lightning.
Outside, Chu Miao focused on her breakthrough.
Without Ye Xuan nearby, the tribulation clouds that had started spreading toward him returned to their original position.
Most gathered directly above the hotel.
The rest continued expanding across central City K, locking onto the zombies trapped inside the sealing array.
Chu Miao could feel countless invisible marks forming.
Some were weak.
Others were strong enough to attract separate bolts of lightning.
The high-level zombies finally understood their situation.
Their earlier discipline disappeared.
Those closest to the barrier attacked it with all their strength.
Fire, metal spikes, wind blades, and other abilities struck the transparent surface.
The array shook continuously.
But it held.
Chu Miao had used thousands of spirit stones to power it.
The intelligent zombies would need time to break through.
Unfortunately for them, the tribulation would not give them that time.
The speaking zombie stood before the barrier and struck it again.
A large crack appeared.
It stepped back and prepared another attack.
Before it could release it, lightning flashed within the clouds.
The zombie looked up.
For the first time, fear appeared clearly on its face.
"Open!"
It turned toward Chu Miao.
"Open city!"
Chu Miao closed her eyes again.
She was busy.
The zombie attacked the barrier.
"Open!"
Its voice echoed across the sealed area, but it received no answer.
The lightning above became brighter.
The zombie looked around desperately.
Millions of its kind were trapped with it.
It had prepared City K as a trap for the two cultivators, but now the situation had reversed.
The human woman had used the entire city as the site of her breakthrough.
The zombie released a roar, commanding the lower-level zombies to gather near the hotel.
