Silver lines mixed with purple lightning as the tribulation clouds rotated above City K.

Chu Miao watched them carefully.

She could already feel the surrounding space becoming unstable.

This stage would not be as simple as enduring stronger lightning. The heavenly dao had added spatial power because she possessed a space element.

It was clearly determined to make things difficult for her.

"Fine," she muttered. "Let’s see whose control is better."

The clouds responded with a deep rumble.

Inside the Soul Ring, Ye Xuan opened his eyes.

"Did she just challenge the heavenly dao?" the Black Tortoise asked.

"No."

The Black Tortoise glanced at him.

"You heard her."

"My wife was encouraging herself."

"Of course."

The Black Tortoise lowered its head again.

Arguing with a man defending his wife was a waste of time.

Outside, Chu Miao took out her fifth set of protection arrays.

She did not activate all of them immediately.

The earlier arrays had shattered quickly because she allowed them to bear the full force of the lightning.

This time, she arranged the flags in three separate layers.

If one layer failed, the next could take its place.

The first lightning bolt of the second stage formed.

Unlike the earlier bolts, it did not descend in a straight line.

It disappeared from the clouds.

Chu Miao’s expression changed.

A spatial fluctuation appeared behind her.

She turned and created a barrier just as the lightning emerged from a crack in space.

BOOM!

The bolt struck the barrier and pushed her several meters forward.

Her feet left deep marks in the damaged roof.

Before she could steady herself, the lightning disappeared again.

It reappeared above her head.

Chu Miao activated the first protective array.

The bolt struck it and finally dispersed.

A small amount entered her body through the barrier.

Her meridians burned, but she quickly circulated the energy.

"That is troublesome."

The lightning could travel through space.

Ordinary barriers would not stop it because it could simply change direction and attack from another place.

However, Chu Miao was not discouraged.

She closed her eyes and extended her divine sense.

The next bolt disappeared from the clouds.

This time, she sensed the spatial passage forming beneath her.

She moved away before the lightning emerged.

It struck the place where she had been sitting and destroyed another part of the hotel.

The building groaned.

Several floors collapsed.

Chu Miao remained standing on a spatial platform in the air.

At the rate the heavenly dao was destroying the hotel, there would be nothing left by the end of the tribulation.

It was fortunate that no one owned the building anymore.

Another bolt disappeared.

Chu Miao detected the fluctuation to her right.

Instead of avoiding it, she reached toward the forming spatial crack and changed its direction.

The lightning emerged several kilometers away.

It struck a group of intelligent zombies attacking the sealing array.

More than half turned to ash.

The others fell to the ground with charred bodies.

Chu Miao smiled.

This stage might not be entirely bad.

As long as she could control the spatial passages, she could redirect part of the lightning toward the remaining zombies.

The heavenly dao seemed to realize what she had done.

Three bolts formed at the same time.

They disappeared together.

One emerged above her.

Another appeared behind her.

The third came from beneath the spatial platform.

Chu Miao’s smile disappeared.

There was no need to be so petty.

She activated all three layers of protection arrays.

The first bolt shattered the outer layer.

The second destroyed the middle one.

The last passed through the final array and struck her back.

Chu Miao stumbled.

Blood flowed from the corner of her mouth.

The lightning entered her meridians violently, refusing to follow the path she had prepared.

She forced it under control and guided it into her bones and dantian.

The last solid part of her Nascent Soul cracked.

Silver energy poured from it.

A small transparent figure began forming within the light.

It still resembled her Nascent Soul, but it no longer had a completely solid body.

It was connected to her divine soul and could change between energy and form.

Her transformation was almost complete.

Chu Miao wiped the blood from her lips.

"That was not enough."

The clouds rumbled again.

This time, she kept her thoughts to herself.

There was no need to encourage the heavenly dao further.

Lightning continued falling.

Some bolts traveled through space.

Others struck the zombies in City K directly.

With each strike, Chu Miao’s understanding of spatial power increased.

At first, she could only sense where the lightning would emerge.

Later, she began interfering with the passages.

By the fiftieth bolt, she could redirect some of them.

By the sixtieth, she managed to close a passage before the lightning crossed through it.

The bolt was forced back into the clouds.

The sky became quiet for several seconds.

Chu Miao looked up.

"Did that count?"

No answer came.

She hoped it did.

She had no desire to endure an extra bolt simply because she returned one unopened.

Inside the Soul Ring, the corner of Ye Xuan’s lips lifted.

"My wife is capable."

The Vermilion Bird turned toward him.

"What did she do?"

"She sent the lightning back."

The white tiger feathers puffed up with excitement.

"As expected of my master!"

The black tortoise looked toward the sky.

"Will the heavenly dao become angry?"

Everyone fell silent.

That was possible.

Outside, the tribulation clouds stopped rotating.

Then, seven bolts formed together.

Chu Miao stared at them.

It seemed the heavenly dao was indeed angry.

The seven bolts disappeared.

Spatial fluctuations appeared all around her.

Chu Miao immediately released her space domain.

Within the domain, every movement became clear.

She could sense the seven passages forming at different points.

Instead of blocking all of them, she divided the space around her into layers.

The first bolt emerged and became trapped between two layers.

Chu Miao sent it toward the zombies below.

The second and third met after she changed their directions.

They collided and exploded in the air.

The fourth struck her protective barrier.

The fifth appeared too close for her to avoid and entered her left arm.

The last two attacked from above and below.

Chu Miao folded the space between them.

The two bolts passed through the fold and struck each other.

The explosion threw her backward.

Her space domain shook but remained intact.

The lightning trapped inside her left arm spread toward her shoulder.

Chu Miao quickly guided it through her body.

Her arm was badly burned, but the energy strengthened the bones and widened several smaller meridians.

She swallowed another healing pill.

The burns began closing slowly.

The second stage continued for almost another hour.

When the seventy-second bolt fell, most of City K had already been destroyed.

The buildings near the center had collapsed.

Fires burned across the streets, and thick smoke covered the lower half of the city.

The hordes that once filled every building were gone.

Only high-level zombies remained.
