Armed Train in the Apocalypse

Chapter 776 - 446: I Am the Black Kite

Watching his daughter deep in thought, Mr. Shu’s lips lifted slightly.

If I can’t get a handle on Su Huan, I can’t get a handle on you either?

The old fox was secretly feeling pleased, when out of the corner of his eye he suddenly saw Shu Wei walking over. Her tall figure made him tilt his head up a little. "Have you made your decision?"

"Could you stand up for a moment?"

"Hmm?"

Mr. Shu rose with some suspicion, not sure what trick this girl was playing.

Then Shu Wei calmly sat down in Mr. Shu’s chair, resting both elbows on the desk, her fingers interlaced in front of her.

She said coolly, "Now you can go rest."

Looking at his daughter rudely claiming his seat, only then did Mr. Shu realize what was happening. He gave a helpless smile. "What’s the rush, Black Kite is still a mess..."

But Shu Wei had no intention of getting up. "Whoever bears the responsibility, holds the power. You’re the one who taught me that."

"What’s handed to you is a favor. What you take is power. You taught me that too."

"So from now on, I am Black Kite. The one and only Black Kite."

Those few sentences left Mr. Shu staring blankly, looking at his daughter’s cold, noble face. Every inch of it carried a domineering air that brooked no argument, overlapping with that defiant man who once stepped on the sofa.

Mr. Shu felt an indescribable sense of regret. His daughter used to resemble him the most.

Now she also carried another man’s shadow.

It didn’t sit well with him.

With a touch of wistful loss, he said, "Then next, what does Miss Hei Yuan want me to do?"

"I can handle all the integration work myself. As for you..." Shu Wei thought for a moment. "Go back and keep her company."

Of course Mr. Shu knew "her" meant Wang Yi. So she was dumping that mess from earlier in the day on him.

He gave a bitter smile. "You’re really that unwilling to see her?"

Shu Wei gave him a chilly glance. "Is there a chance I don’t even want to see you?"

Ten minutes later, Mr. Shu was standing dazed outside the command center.

He’d been stripped of power just like that?

When he was young, he’d imagined countless times that he would raise an outstanding heir, then semi-retire to the background, using his experience to slowly guide them in inheriting his family business.

Later the child let him down, and with the advent of the Evolution Era, he’d long given up on that idea.

He never expected Shu Wei to come out of nowhere, rising to a height he had to take seriously, even look up to.

Before he even had time to explain the contingencies he’d laid out over the years, in the light and in the shadows, he’d been kicked out like a useless old man.

"Wait a moment."

A deep male voice sounded behind him. He recognized it as the long-necked subordinate his daughter had brought back, the one with fierce combat power.

Was he calling him back?

Thinking of that possibility, Mr. Shu’s expression brightened quite a bit, and he lifted his hands to straighten his clothes.

Just as his hands were raised, the Giraffe shoved a tea tray and tea set into them, baring big teeth in a grin. "The Secretary-General said, you can take this with you. She doesn’t need it."

Then he turned and strode away, leaving Mr. Shu standing there, thoroughly disoriented.

...

"March 25th, 2037. Bursting with vitality."

"Is it because this jungle hatched the Fear Rule, or because the Fear Rule gave birth to this plant life?"

With No. 1 no longer sabotaging them from behind, construction of the safety passage was progressing rapidly. There were still fearless Evolution Beasts and mutants coming to court death, but with their Tier One Peak combat strength, they were nothing more than live targets for the new recruits.

Su Huan hadn’t been idle lately either. While collecting all the Flesh and Blood blasted off the Terror Slaughterer, he was also negotiating with the Traveler’s Tree in the Plant Zone.

Though some of the Traveler’s Tree were a bit resistant, once Su Huan showed them the vision of humans and nature living in harmony, they all cheerfully accepted. However, as the resistant batch, they’d have to trek a long distance to reach the planned route.

The armor and weapons stripped from the Terror Slaughterer were all fine goods, but the tier was too high. Not only could the train not extract and use them, just getting close would be cowed by Fear. Su Huan could only use a Tier One mutant banyan and a Tier Three locust tree to form one large and one small coffin, sealing the gear inside and stuffing them deep in the warehouse.

They’d also found that stone of the Fear Rule. Like the corpse, it was too sinister. Director Xu and the others couldn’t even approach it, so they simply tossed it into the coffin as well.

The second plant-zone outpost had already been completed. After all, this was a Tier Two Traveler’s Tree. If not for Su Huan muscling in, it was basically a local minor overlord; the train didn’t even need to worry about security there.

Right now the Cultivation Pod was set down beside the Traveler’s Tree, and the Crown Pear Tree looked like a giant potted plant.

Huang Sea and Li Han were up top, fully on guard, while Su Huan sat on one of the Traveler’s Tree’s branches, tapping the heel of his foot against it as the Traveler’s Tree stared in a daze at the Crown Pear Tree. "We’ve fed you plenty of good stuff lately. You don’t mind putting in a bit of work for me, right?"

The Traveler’s Tree shook its crown. "No problem. I’m just curious how you managed to grow a tree with so much Life Energy."

"Don’t worry about that. Just translate what it’s saying."

"It’s not talking."

"Not talking?"

Su Huan frowned, flew up, and looked down at the Crown Pear Tree, exerting a bit of his pressure.

"If you’ve got a brain, say something."

Under the pressure of a Tier Four Evolver, the Crown Pear Tree still caved and gave a little nod.

Its crown rustled loudly.

"It spoke!"

The Traveler’s Tree shouted to Su Huan.

Su Huan withdrew his pressure with satisfaction. "What did it say?"

"Food!"

Su Huan froze for a moment, then lowered his head to glance at the willow tree nearby that had grown much thicker. A few days ago, Uncle Xiaoya’s consciousness had also recovered. After a moment of silence, the latter nodded along. "What I heard was water."
