I, holding back tears in my heart, now stared at the thick, empty book and the writing utensils of this novel world: a blank book, a pointed quill, and a bottle of black ink still sealed with its cap.
There was no other reason to refuse. It was because Marchioness Shinano VII Lichtberg had deemed me capable of understanding the techniques of spellcasting based on speech and imagination.
Magic in this novel's world is designed to first visualize the spell in your mind before casting it with the correct incantation. Other languages can be used, as long as the imagination is accurate. For simple magic spells like Fireball, there are several variations of the languages of the various races in the novel's world.
I wrote the principles of magic, so it's no surprise that my imagination was already moving before I spoke. The magic books I've read are a general guideline for considering magic as the art of communication and imagination. Yet, there are other ways to communicate and cast magic, such as hand gestures.
With such a heavy task, I felt like writing a thesis or dissertation related to the magic from Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg lectures.
Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld's training will focus on physical sword techniques, meaning I'll be exhausted during her rigorous training. Meanwhile, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg's training will focus on intellectual abilities, meaning I'll be stressed throughout.
This isn't normal training; it's like teaching a child the material for a college entrance exam with a high level of difficulty. If I remember correctly, the Royal Belfast Academy doesn't have a high level of difficulty. This is simply the ego of parents who want their daughters to shine at the Royal Belfast Academy.
The goal is good, but it will trigger the Villainess route, which considers that all the instructors at the Royal Belfast Academy do not have a decent standard in teaching, after Master Reina and Master Amagi understood all their learning materials at a young age.
People will think they are geniuses and arrogance.
Well, that won't be a problem for me, who will be in charge of being a maid in the future.
Everything that happens inside the Belfast Royal Academy will be a story exclusively for Master Reina and Master Amagi. There's no need to think too far about my future troubles to knowing theirs academy story.
Working as a maid with relaxed working hours has become Liliana's dream.
And I will grant it!
Don't worry Liliana, I got yours back!
"I'll give it a try. Don't laugh if the writing is weird," I said after going through various considerations in my head.
"Why should I laugh at a magic book written by a little girl? Just as Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld did, I also want to ascertain your ability to teach magic properly."
"Ugh, now I feel depressed and question about my own abilities."
"Don't underestimate your own abilities, Liliana. Sometimes, showing your true abilities can be a source of pride and honor. Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld also experienced the same thing in the past. She didn't want to marry at a young age and dared to enter the Royal Belfast Academy just to participate in the annual swordfighting tournament. In previous years, she participated in the free participant version of the swordfighting tournament and in the following year as a student at the Royal Belfast Academy."
"I know all that; I've seen her consecutive trophy wins."
"What I'm saying may sound pushy, but you won't regret it if you unleash your true potential."
"I-I will remember that well, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg."
On this warm morning, I heard a long lecture of advice from a nobleman who lived comfortably.
Unleashing the abilities and talents that I have, huh?
I don't think that's right thing to do...
But it's not bad either to unleashed my hidden abilities...
More precisely, I will use my abilities as an Author who has written this novel world.
All the secrets of sword techniques in the past and the techniques of the magic revolution that will occur in the future can become a weapons that I can use under the pretext of ability and natural talent.
"What are you talking about? I wasn't that reckless in the past!" said Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld, who had arrived before us after dragging the Duke by his feet.
The Duke did not suffer any fatal injuries, only minor wounds that could be healed after drinking a recovery potion from Doctor Julia.
"You were indeed that reckless in the past. Even I had a hard time chasing after you and trying to restrain you from doing anything strange. Don't you realize that your stubbornness has been passed down to Young Miss Reina?" Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg retorted, an accusation the Duchess couldn't deny.
"I don't look like that, do I?" the Duchess asked the Duke, his head resting on the ground.
"With my condition like this, is there anyone who doesn't believe that?" the Duke replied with a small smile on his face.
The Duchess let go of the Duke's leg after dragging him. She smiled wryly and immediately sat down on a chair that the Head Maid had prepared.
I ignored all that, stared at the old magic book, and pretended to read the second chapter. A complex mixture of language and pronunciation of words according to the consonants of the words; it was too complicated to adhere to the rules of magic spellcasting.
Didn't someone question why "Fireball" should be read as "Fireball" instead of "Fire ball" or something like that?
If the consonance of the words spoken as a condition for activating the magic based the Head Maid's previous words, then it can be considered a delayed activation of the magic.
That could be an interesting topic for my beginner's magic book, right?
With this little idea in my head, I immediately read the third chapter, the fourth chapter, the fifth chapter, until the eighth chapter as the final chapter.
Fllaapp...
Fllaapp...
My hand that opened the pages of the magic book had reached an important conclusion.
The characterization of mages in this novel's world is too rigid and follows old, proven guidelines without having the courage to do something new.
"You seem to be having a good time, Liliana?" the Duchess asked after taking a seat in her chair and enjoying a cup of warm tea prepared by the Head Maid.
"Y-Yes, Duchess. I just learned that magic can be temporarily stopped and continued by surprise," I replied while moving the quill the Marchioness had given me and writing something on a blank magic book page, after dipping the tip of the quill into a bottle of black ink.
"That seems interesting, may I hear more?"
"Of course, Duchess. Give me a few minutes to draw out the proofs of concept," I replied, writing in a blank magic book.
Writing in the language of this world would be complicated, so I'll describe the flow to make it easier to understand without words.
Srreett...
Srreeett...
Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg watched my hand movements as I sketched out a diagram block of a Fireball attack. The two images contrasted: one of a successful Fireball attack and another that was deemed unsuccessful, but it was merely a delayed magic attack.
"That won't work, Liliana. Magic incantations are supposed to be pronounced with the same consonant sounds. That theory has been tested before," Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg said, shaking her head.
"Fire..." I replied to that statement with a Fireball magic chant that stopped in the middle and continued drawing my hand.
Sreeett...
Srreeett...
The image of the delayed Fireball attack was still in my mind: a small fireball that would eventually fly and hit the steps that were supporting the body of the old butler, who was unconscious with his mouth wide open.
I made sure a few seconds had passed, and my hand had finished drawing the scheme of my magic attack.
My hand immediately pointed at the old butler and targeted his head position, slightly lower on the right side, and missed his vital area.
"Ball..." I said after feeling the right time to show the truth of this delayed magic spell.
Small sparks formed in the air, creating hot flames that formed a ball and floated in the air.
The delayed magic spell formed a ball of fire in the air and flew towards the old butler, hitting the right side of his head and shattering into hot droplets that woke the old butler from his stupor.
"WOOOAAHH!! H-HOT!! WHAT HAPPENED?!!" the old butler shouted after waking up from his faint.
This delayed Fireball magic attack worked—indeed, it would have worked, because it was a fundamental principle of magic in this novel's world. A blessing from a Goddess to every living creature who understood the concept of magic.
The Goddess in this novel's world will always open up new magical options for those who understand the concept of magic.
To be honest, I wrote the development of magic in this world with various possibilities so that I wouldn't have difficulty developing the main storyline.
Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg's eyes widened upon seeing my delayed magic incantation succeed.
"Oh, much weaker than I thought..."
"Let's try again, Fire..." This time, I cast the Fireball magic spell with even bigger flames, heating up like a campfire at night.
I took a sip of the sour lemon tea, enjoying the sour sensation running down my throat, and took a deep breath to finish the delayed magic chant.
"Ball..." with soft words, I felt my body getting heavier after the Fireball magic chant was finished.
A much larger fireball formed before my eyes, making my body feel heavy as if something had been released from my body.
The heavy feeling in my body felt increasingly like a feeling of drowsiness that tempted me to sleep.
"Ugh, so sleepy..." I muttered softly as I leaned my back on the chair and closed my eyes.
This strange feeling I'm having- could it be because my mana capacity is not enough to cast Fireball magic, or Liliana is overdoing it in casting such a large Fireball magic?
Whatever happened, I felt sleepy and closed my eyes.
Without saying a word, I fell asleep on the chair.
