As A Maid, I Can Fix Her!

Chapter 66: Chapter 65 - Enjoying Complicated Magic Book

In a situation that demanded survival, I immediately agreed to Doctor Julia’s request who wanted to use my drawing talent.

With this additional task, I immediately went to my room and put away the books related to my work. I left a small note telling my mother not to throw them away.

A shabby old magic book and a small book filled with complicated words for children to read; they should have been safe from my mother’s unique stupidity. Just in case, I put it on an empty dressing table, and it was easily visible when she entered the room.

My footsteps immediately made their way to the side of the Mansion and met the senior maid who was teaching me the most basic maid duties. Liliana’s memories, already intermingled with mine, somehow made me feel uneasy as I tried to go through this maid training, and I pretended to faint again.

I arrived at the side of the mansion, which contained dry ground for sword training and a large courtyard lined with wooden clothes-drying poles. Several maids were busy drying bed sheets and other people’s clothes. Besides serving Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s family, we maids also served the other people living in the same mansion.

Butlers who serve other butlers and maids who serve other maids are separated by these work-hour divisions. So there’s no worry about the maids’ underwear being "played" with by the butlers who do the laundry. Our job descriptions are the same, but that doesn’t mean they can overstep the boundaries and do strange things under the guise of work.

From a distance, I saw the Head Maid, who was with the senior maid, supervising the performance of the laundry maid in drying clothes.

Tap...

Tap...

These slow footsteps somehow made my little brain think of a little prank in the form of a whisper in the Head Maid’s ear.

Coming uninvited, appearing suddenly, and disappearing appearance without being told, like a ghost.

I think it would be a fun little prank to pull.

However, before I could do that, the Head Maid heard my footsteps crunching against the dry ground. It was so loud that the senior maid, who was supervising the other maids, also sensed my presence.

"Have you woken up from your adorable swoon, Liliana?" the Head Maid asked as she waited for me to approach.

The question sounded thoughtful, but with a faint smile on her face. It seemed less like a compliment than sarcasm about my weakness.

"I was unconscious for quite some time until noon, huh?" I replied as I continued to walk beside the Head Maid.

From my vantage point, overlooking the entire laundry area, there were no laundry baskets left. The only ones left were the butlers. They worked with lazy expressions and movements that seemed... reluctant to dry their coworkers’ clothes.

"Is there no work left for me?" I asked the Head Maid.

"Hmm? It seems there isn’t any. The only job left at the moment is to accompany Young Miss Reina, who is being punished after losing in a sword training against Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld."

"Lost... again?" I muttered with a stiff smile.

"Have you actually won against Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld?"

"Uh, nope. Not a win... just a draw, hahaha!!" I replied in an arrogant tone.

This wasn’t baseless arrogance; I had proven myself capable of withstanding the Duchess’s rigorous sword training. Fighting to a draw without losing was a greater achievement than losing to her.

"Say that after you win against Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld."

"I don’t know when that happened, Head Maid," I replied weakly.

"If you wish to accompany Young Miss Reina, who is being punished, you can go to her room or..." The Head Maid’s words stopped midway; she smiled gently and leaned forward.

"Or what?" I leaned forward to hear the Head Maid’s whisper.

"Or you could accompany Young Miss Amagi, who is alone and feeling bored in the library. She doesn’t want to be accompanied by any other maid than you, Liliana," whispered the Head Maid, which made me feel guilty.

After what happened and knowing Master Amagi’s personality of having difficulty remembering other people’s faces, I can imagine that she would be sitting on the sofa feeling uncomfortable because of other people’s stares.

"Much better than accompanying a grumpy mother who is scolding her daughter in the bedroom, right?" the Head Maid continued to whisper, with a valid reason.

The Head Maid seemed to be... helping me escape from any potential trouble.

Accompanying Master Amagi, who is reading a magic book in the library, huh?

For some reason, it felt better than accompanying Master Reina, who was in trouble because of her own attitude and behavior.

Occasionally escape from problems...

That’s okay, right?

"O-Okay, I’m going to the library now."

Following the Head Maid’s advice, I quickly made my way to Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s library, located next to the main flower garden. The journey didn’t take long. My body felt lighter after fainting from lack of mana.

Walking along the edge of the Main Mansion, I saw the old butler who was putting up no trespassing signs around the dry land and sounded like he was scolding three men; they were sitting next to the drain.

I could guess what happened, but I’d leave that to the angry old butler, who was seething with rage.

He seemed fine after getting kicked in the groin by my foot.

That was good news, and I was relieved.

Without making a sound of footsteps, I managed to pass the old butler and saw the magnificent library building belonging to Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld.

Before I entered, several maids were cleaning the front of the library. Without greeting them, I went inside.

Srreeehh...

The cool, crisp air of the library enveloped my body. The midday heat vanished. From the library entrance, I could see Master Amagi staring at the magic bookshelf. Her petite frame and neat, long hair entered my view. She held a magic book, clutched tightly in her small hands.

Her long pastel purple hair matched her casual outfit. The ribbon clip matched her hair color, being subtle but helping to keep it neatly styled.

Master Amagi seemed to be having trouble choosing which magic book to read; she furrowed her brows and grumbled softly.

"Uh, the title is too complicated to understand."

"Mom said that I need to understand the magic book in my own way because people’s imaginations are undefinable."

"But... this is too complicated to do."

Just as Master Amagi was starting to get flustered, she accidentally glanced at me. Her calm expression met mine before she smiled and ran towards me.

"Liliana!!" she greeted with a smile on her face, running to hug me.

Buugghh...

"Cough!!" My chest ached as Master Amagi hugged me, her thick book hitting my chest mercilessly.

Holding back the cough that burst out of my mouth, I tried to stay calm and greeted her.

"G-Good afternoon, Master Amagi."

"Looking for a new magic book after the previous one was too complicated?" I asked as small talk after greeting her.

Master Amagi immediately pulled my arm to the reading couch, forced me to sit beside her, and opened the magic book she hadn’t finished reading.

"There are a few things I’d like to ask you, Liliana!" Master Amagi shouted enthusiastically.

She took out a piece of paper filled with complicated vocabulary, related to figures of speech and hyperbolic metaphors.

I think I’m starting to understand the predicament Master Amagi is facing.

"Those complicated words in the magic book again?" I asked to make sure.

"Yes, Liliana. Some mages always write magic books in complicated language. I really hate that!" Master Amagi grumbled in complaint.

"Aahh... a complicated magic book, huh? I can understand the difficulty. Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg gave me a difficult assignment related to magic books. Should I write a magic book with complicated vocabulary too?" I said jokingly.

"Liliana, magic books written by adults are already complicated. If they were written by children like us, what kind of complicated vocabulary would they have?"

"Oh, good question, Master Amagi!"

Honestly, it was too good a question from Master Amagi, and it made it hard for me to answer it.

Imagination and talent for understanding magic will vary from person to person. Magic books written with creativity and complex grammar will be increasingly difficult for everyone to understand.

In other words, only the writer understands his or her own writing.

"Let’s try changing the vocabulary of the magic book to make it easier for children to understand, Master Amagi!" I said cheerfully, trying to cheer Master Amagi up after she complained about her magic book being difficult to understand.

"Uh-huh? Y-You’re so excited, Liliana? Changing complicated vocabulary to simple vocabulary will be very difficult, you know... but it’s a challenge to do!" said Master Amagi, seeing this as a challenge.

With a thick magic book in her hands, Master Amagi changed her sitting position to sit on my lap.

"Hmm??" The sudden change left me astonished.

"Master Amagi, what are you doing?" I asked Master Amagi after she changed her sitting position on my lap.

"Uhm? Understanding complicated vocabulary into simple vocabulary with Liliana?" she replied with a sweet smile on her face.

That sweet, sly smile. How could Master Amagi use such a cunning tactic? When she smiles sweetly like that, I lose all reason to refuse it.

"Is that okay, Master Amagi?"

"Why is that became a problem, Liliana?"

That quick answer; it seems Master Amagi acted without thinking about the consequences.

An apprentice maid who is holding a noble girl.

From any angle, this would seem odd, right?

"Umm... I-I’m not that heavy, right?"

"No, Master Amagi..." I answered honestly.
