Chapter 76: Chapter 75 - Relaxing Night
Cleaning a room at night would generally be difficult with minimal lighting.
However, this wasn’t the case in a room lit by a magic lantern, a holy magic book, and a cluster of sunflowers. Their bright light was enough to spot dirt on the floor and even dust floating in the air.
I cleaned my room at breakneck speed, trying to finish before my mom got back. Seeing the mess that was like a shipwreck, the reward was an absolute punishment.
Without getting into the matter of the holy magic book that insulted a bunch of sunflowers as disgusting magic, I continued cleaning my room until a bag of dirt looked full.
"Not so bad, right?" I muttered as I tied up the bag of dirt before throwing it into the small trash can in the corner of the room.
Pummm...
"One problem solved."
"Now, the second problem needs to be solved," I continued muttering, glancing towards my bedroom window to see the holy magic book talking to the sunflower.
I wanted to doubt my own eyes, but this was a magical novel. Seeing a holy magic book converse with a sunflower was common things. There was no need to panic and assume my mind was descending into madness.
The holy magic book that would eventually become the property of one of the heroines was before my eyes. Floating in the air with its foolish innocence, and tried to apologize for deeming other magic disgusting.
That could be considered magic discrimination, right?
Holy magic, who related to faith, belief, and honesty, holds a higher rank than other forms of magic. The higher levels of holy magic are always associated with the Great Goddess. Without the divinity of a Great Goddess, holy magic cast by non-believers would be mere low-level magic.
At least, that’s what I understood from the discussion of the holy magic book.
"I have to be a believer to cast holy magic?"
"What kind of nonsense is that?"
"The holy magic I wrote in my novel, is so simple."
"Honestly, it’s just plot armor magic that makes it easier for the main character to win against monsters."
"Now, how do I use holy magic without showing my faith?"
My little brain was racking its knowledge, conjuring up all the ways and excuses to use holy magic without demonstrating my faith. A magic that should be accessible to everyone had suddenly become a magic with holy things and complicated usage requirements.
What kind of person can use healing magic with faith?
The more I think about this, the more my little brain thinks of other nonsensical answers and ends up with a simple answer.
Cttiingg!!
"Using holy magic doesn’t require faith. Just being grateful is enough," I said after getting the answer.
"Be grateful for being able to use holy magic; at least that’s enough to believe in the Great Goddess in this novel world."
"Even though I’m the author, why should I believe in the figure of the Great Goddess I wrote about in the past?" With that answer, I reached a conclusion that could be considered religious heresy.
I am very sure everyone will make the same decision as I did.
An author trapped in a novel’s world, where fictional characters become real, and the plot becomes a mystery. Their sanity is challenged by morals and logic. They must follow the rules of the world they’ve created, or consider it merely fiction.
That’s what I’m feeling right now.
"This is really annoying. How could I have faith in a Great Goddess who only appears when the main character is in trouble?" I grumbled further while dusting the bed.
My heart feels upset about something that hasn’t happened yet.
The annoyance stems from the troublesome requirements for using holy magic. If there were a way to use holy magic without faith, it would improve my mood.
"It’s really annoying..." I continued to grumble.
Krraaakk...
As I was grumbling and tidying up the bed sheets, the bedroom door opened, and my mother came in carrying a wooden tray containing dinner.
"Liliana... I’m home with dinner!!" my mother said loudly and entered the room.
I immediately glanced at the holy magic book floating in the air, still chatting with the sunflower. There was no time left to be caught off guard.
My mother’s footsteps stopped after entering the room. The bright light from the sunflowers and the holy magic book blinded her, and she continued walking with her eyes closed. This made me panic and help hold her wooden tray.
"Huupp!!" With a quick movement, I got out of bed and jumped in front of my mother, holding a wooden tray containing dinner.
"Be careful, Mom!"
"You almost dropped our dinner!" I said as I held up the wooden tray.
My hands held the edge of the wooden tray and took over, placing the wooden tray on the small table that was not far from the entrance to the room.
"M-My eyes!! Why is our room so bright!!" my mother grumbled with her eyelids still closed.
I’ve experienced this several times; it does feel annoying at first, but she’ll soon get used to it once your pupils adjust to the intensity of light entering her eyes.
With such bright light in the room, the magic lantern we used became a decoration on the dressing table.
"S-Sorry, Mom. I was studying magic, and this is what happened..." I said while setting dinner on the small table.
This dinner seemed more sumptuous than usual. It was chicken soup with a variety of vegetables and warm rice. It was quite sumptuous, with its rich chicken broth and enticing aroma.
"M-Magic? Why are you studying magic in the bedroom?!" my mother continued to grumble.
She rubbed her eyes until they opened wide. With her lids lowered, she stared at me, her hands groping for seeking help.
"There is no other place that is quieter and more comfortable than in the bedroom."
"The bedroom is indeed the best choice for studying, but you have to warn me first!"
"Hahaha... next time, I’ll lock it first so that Mother can get ready," I replied while giving a small signal to the holy magic book to return to the dressing table.
"Don’t lock it. Just put a warning sign on the door."
"I-I’ll try," I replied as I walked towards the bedroom window and pushed the sunflower to face the moon in the sky.
"Please don’t shine too brightly in my bedroom," I whispered as I pushed some sunflowers away.
As if hearing my words, some of the sunflowers shifted their positions upwards, sending their seeds up, and some of them illuminated my room with just enough light. It wasn’t as bright as a car’s headlights, which would blind the eyes.
It seems... they are very obedient and follow my orders well.
"Yes, that’s it. You guys are really smart," I complimented, glancing at the holy magic book that was slowly moving towards my dressing table.
"Please help me with that one," I whispered again, this time with the specific aim of speeding up the holy magic book lying on the dresser.
Cttaasshh!!
Blaaarrr!!
Another shot from a sunflower seed exploded. It hit a holy magic book flying towards the dressing table like the grudge of a plant that grew from a magic chant, never vanished.
Somehow, it felt scary.
"No need to be so rough, but that’s okay..."
"That innocent holy magic book deserves such rough treatment."
As if considering it a natural action, I closed the window and waved my hand at the sunflower.
A living sunflower; it won’t cause another problem, right?
As long as I take good care of it, like watering it every day, it won’t treat me like a holy magic book that causes problem and aggressive, right?
I shook my head and turned back to my mother. Her eyes could see normally now that the light in the room had decreased. The only light entering the room was the moonlight, the sunflowers, and the magic lantern, which wasn’t too dazzling.
It was enough to see the sunflower seeds scattered on the floor of the room.
Then, I cleaning the exploded sunflower seeds.
Also, I made sure the holy magic book was okay.
"Y-You’re okay, right?" I whispered as I placed the cover on top.
Her yellow eyes glanced at me with tears in them, almost crying after being bullied by the sunflower.
"D-Do I look okay?" the holy magic book replied, feeling like deja vu.
I’ve been in her position, blinded by a bright light that pierces my eyes, and somehow... the situation turned against her.
What a fair law of karma.
Karma does respect each other, huh?
"Yeah, you look fine. It’s your own fault for finding other magic disgusting. Next time, don’t say things like that. Take this as a lesson for the future."
"This is so unfair. Why am I suffering like this?!!"
Without any sympathy for her plight, I stacked the holy magic book on top of the beginner’s magic book and my personal notebook. I arranged the dressing table to make room for some space.
I could have used a small table that was converted into a dining table, but that would be unethical to the magic books that held knowledge.
After clearing the floor of exploding sunflower seeds and tidying the dresser, I sat back down at the small dinner table. My mother was already enjoying the chicken soup and sipping the broth.
Sluuurp...
"Are you done cleaning up, Liliana?" my mother asked as she ate her dinner.
"Yes, Mother. Today’s work is too hard. Should I retire on my first day as Master Reina and Master Amagi’s personal maid in training?" I replied in a heavy, exhausted voice.
"That’s funny... I heard you kicked the Head Butler in the groin until he passed out."
"N-Not on purpose..."
"So... Accidentally, huh?" my mother replied skeptically.
