Chapter 82: Chapter 81 - Day 2 Intensive Training
Far above the morning sky that still has the blanket of night.
I received special training from Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld. Today’s intensive training focused on building stamina and developing my danger instincts. The explanation was simple: I simply ran around Duke Adelheid Von Blutfeld’s Main Mansion, and avoiding surprise attacks.
According to the Duchess, the surprise attack was not particularly dangerous and was easily spotted.
Even the untrained eye would have spotted the dangerous spot, hidden with deadly traps.
Together with the Head Maid who was my training supervisor, I ran while looking around me.
"Calm yourself, Liliana."
"A professional maid will always be alert without looking panicked."
"You need to learn the technique of observing the situation in a calm manner."
Tap...
Tap...
My running footsteps ignored the Head Maid’s words. My mind was too preoccupied with searching for any signs of danger before my eyes. Before Master Reina and Master Amagi’s training began, I was their guinea pig to testing training traps.
The sky was still dark, visibility was limited by thin fog, and hidden threats were looming.
Somehow, that doesn’t excite me.
My footsteps continued to run along the streets around the Main Mansion, enjoying the cool air and the thin layer of sweat that beaded on my forehead.
As I ran, several underground traps became clearly visible. The fresh dug soil was still fresh, much darker than the surrounding soil. I passed through them without being caught in any of the traps.
Cttuunngg!!
On the second jump, after passing the obvious trap, I saw an arrow past my head. Liliana’s short posture was able to dodge the attack. If she were any taller than two centimeters, it would have pierced her head.
I stopped my steps at a safe point, staring at the Head Maid with a frightened expression.
"T-That..."
"That was... an arrow, right?" I asked the Head Maid, expecting a quick answer.
The Head Maid smiled at me. She turned her face to the arrow that flew freely and disappeared.
Swwaasshh!!
The shadow of her body, covered by the remains of the blanket of night and the moonlight in the morning, disappeared, then suddenly reappearing with an arrow in her hand.
"Surprised by the intensive training on this second day, Liliana?"
"Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld said... Liliana should run in the morning with full enjoyment. There was a clear line in her instructions not to make Liliana bored or sleepy during the intensive training. So, there will some... surprises like this, Liliana."
Bwwiinngg!!
Bwwwiinngg!!
The Head Maid’s fingertips touched the arrow and moved as if playing with it. There was no puncture wound or blood flowing from her fingertips.
"The tip of this arrow is made of a material that is not dangerous or deadly. But don’t take it lightly, it will still hurt when it hits the head."
"For the sake of interesting and fun intensive training, I set a deadly trap in a blind spot."
"So, good luck trying to run and stay alive, Liliana!"
I did write character development that involved some crazy and deadly training for main character, but not as crazy as the Head Maid and Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld.
Why I must do all this training?!!
"I see... You’re enjoying all this, aren’t you?" I asked as I searched for the arrow’s shooting point.
From behind the bushes, neatly concealed by a flower vase, I spotted a trap device that looked like a crossbow. The trigger was attached to a thin string that reflected the moonlight.
It’s not clearly visible, but there is a faint white line.
Following the white line, I looked down at my left foot which stepped on it and triggered the arrow trap.
"Oh, no wonder I trigger it."
I muttered to myself, and my own stupidity. The death trap on the ground was a distraction. The real death trap was just outside my awareness.
"What an interesting game, Head Maid!" I said to the Head Maid while holding back my irritation.
There was no point in being upset with the Head Maid who had gone to the trouble of setting up this deadly trap.
Instead... I was excited to see what other traps she had prepared.
Whatever traps ahead, I’m ready to face it!
My heavy footsteps resumed running. This time, I was cautious of the traps on the ground and the invisible ones. Based on my previous experience, the thin string was about two paces from the first trap.
Without getting caught a second time, I jumped further than before.
That made the Head Maid throw a knife from under her long skirt, which I happened to see after turning my head back, while still in the air.
Swwiingg!!
The swish sound coming from the throwing knife passed my cheek, almost scratching it and wounding me.
"Hey! What the hell is that!" I said after dodging an attack from behind and standing on the ground without a trap.
"Just another surprise attack," answered the Head Maid innocently.
"That’s no reason to throw a knife at me!"
"That’s what Liliana has to detect and evade it. You have to feel the danger signs of someone who can stab you in the back. As you know... the deadliest trap is being betrayed by someone you trust. So be careful, Liliana."
"..." I didn’t say anything about it.
What kind of nonsense did I just hear?
That contrived excuse almost made me angry, but I was already halfway there. Being annoyed at the Head Maid’s ridiculous actions wouldn’t satisfy me.
So, I took a breath to let this annoyance pass...
Or... that’s what I thought before.
Without further protest, I resumed running, avoiding other traps.
Occasionally, I glanced at the Head Maid chasing me from behind. There was no guarantee I could trust a Head Maid who would attack me with such ease.
My position was close to the maids’ quarters. My bedroom window was recognizable from a distance by the sunflowers shining brightly against the still-dark morning sky.
Without making eye contact or saying a word to the sunflower, I could see the sunflower seed attack coming towards me. By blocking the Head Maid’s line of sight, I attempted to do a surprise attack as my counterattack.
"Fire..." the first step of the delayed chant was uttered, the next step was to see the Head Maid’s response in avoiding the explosive sunflower seed attack.
Swwuussh!!
Swwuusshh!!
The tiny seeds flying toward me made a terrifying hissing sound, like a bomb with a countdown timer ready to explode once it reached zero. Their explosive power was small, only about the size of a firecracker, but it was enough to counterattack the Head Maid and by some time for bigger attack.
There’s no rule against attacking my training supervisor, right?
As long as there’s is not a rule about that, then serious violations can be forgiven.
Yup, I will enjoying this counterattack.
Bllaassttt!!
Ctttaasshh!!
Blaassstt!!
Cttaassshh!!
The sound of sunflower seeds exploding could be heard, and I immediately turned around to see the Head Maid covering her eyes. Trying to withstand the slight force of the explosion, she shielded her head with both hands.
What a great opportunity!
I will take this opportunity to make another surprise attack!
"Ball..." I said to complete the delayed magic chant.
The mana within my body was being sucked out. The red glow from the embers formed sparks before my eyes, incinerating the cold morning air into a ball of fiery heat.
Swoosh!!
The Fireball chant flew towards the Head Maid who continued to run towards me, without opening her eyes, and still protecting her head with both hands.
Blaaarrr!!
The explosion of the fireball was visible. It hit the Head Maid, giving me time to keep running and passing the remaining traps.
These increasingly heavy footsteps did not fade after seeing the Head Maid survive the Fireball magic attack.
"That’s was crazy..."
"How could anyone survive a fireball that big..."
"This Head Maid is too scary when she’s not serious. If she’s serious, what will happen to me?"
"In the worst scenario... I am not dead, right?"
A sense of dread and threat mingled together. It kept my footsteps running nonstop. As another round of this intense keep forcing me run, I also feel the terrifying training was nearing its end, I could see Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld and Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg awaiting my arrival.
I ran with all my might, while dodging Head Maid’s knife throws.
Swooossshh!!
Even though I didn’t look back, I could feel a sense of danger, aiming at my neck. Along with it, the tingling sensation of the fine hairs on the nape of my neck seemed to be feeling my surroundings, warning me of the danger around me.
Jumping with all my might and changing my body position in the air, I could see the tip of the knife gleaming from the hand of Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld.
Wait, she attacking too?!!
That’s not fair!!
Swooosshh!!
The knife throw was so powerful and fast, it even vibrated the air around it.
One slight mistake... and that knife will be stuck in my little neck.
Buugghh!!
As a result of running fast, jumping high, and changing my body rotation in the air, I had a bad superhero landing.
Buuggghh!!
Buummpp!!
Poooommm!!
I felt several physical impacts until my body fell in front of Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld.
"Oh my... what a nice landing, Liliana."
"Did you enjoy today’s intensive training session?" the Duchess asked innocently.
I gave a thumbs up, signaling that my body was fine with this horribly intense training.
"I don’t know. Do I look like I’m enjoying the constant surprises that come my way?" I asked back.
"You’re smiling. Surely that can be considered a sign of happiness, right?"
"Hahaha... yeah, I guess," there was no energy left after this intensive training was over.
I rested my body by lying on the ground and enjoying the cold soil in the morning.
"You can thank me after this. You can sense the danger signs, right?"
"That ability won’t trigger without sensing a real danger. Congratulations on gaining the ability to detect danger, Liliana!" the Duchess said, clapping her hands.
Cllaapp...
Cllaaapp...
Clllaaappp...
In my worst position, Duchess Adelheid Von Blutfeld really resembles the Villainess girl who became the Final Last Boss in my novel story.
