Chapter 85: Chapter 84 - Teaching Delayed Magic
In the warm morning sun, Master Amagi arrived with her magic book. She wore casual clothes, ready to get dirty for intensive training. Not in her nightgown or her noble dress, which were too elegant to be ruined.
"Oh, Amagi came first?"
"Apparently, my daughter has to be splashed with water first to wake her up, huh?"
"But it’s okay. She’ll wake up to see a picture of me kissing Liliana’s nape. Sooner or later, she’ll learn that Liliana still mine!"
Right beside me, the Duchess was holding back her irritation after seeing the reality in front of her. The Head Maid had disappeared and was carrying out her duty to surprise Master Reina in the morning.
The surprise would trigger Master Reina’s heart attack and anger in the morning. A cunning tactic that carries the risk of destroying a mother’s relationship with her daughter.
This crazy noble family...
I don’t know whether I should praise her courage or her cunning tactics...
Master Amagi came to see me, sitting on Marchioness Shinano VII Lichtberg’s lap. She gazed at me with calm, pastel-purple eyes and puffed out her cheeks.
"Mom, what are you doing with Liliana?" Master Amagi asked as she sat down beside her mother.
"What am I doing? Isn’t that obvious? Reading a magic book written by Liliana," the Marchioness replied, tapping the cover of the book she gave me long time ago.
The thick book actually looks like a diary that happens to keep a record of my understanding of magic world. Taking it as my handwritten magic book would be too much. The Head Maid gave my handwritten magic book to the Marchioness before she left to carry out the Duchess’s duties.
"Interested in reading the first page, Amagi?" the Marchioness asked with a warm smile.
"C-Can I read other people’s magic books?"
"Of course you can; the magic book you read was also written by someone else. Isn’t that the same thing?"
"Uhh?? Yeah..." Master Amagi accepted my handwritten magic book while staring at me.
She looked like she was asking me a question, and I answered her with a nod.
There was no need to say anything; I already understood the discomfort that Master Amagi was experiencing.
She looked awkward and opened my magic book with trembling hands. I should be the one feeling that. The amateur magic book I’d written was entirely based on my experiences as an amateur witch.
"It feels embarrassing when my magic book is read by someone else," I muttered while watching Master Amagi smile as she read the first page.
Did the first page of my magic book contain a funny words that made Master Amagi smile like that?
The magic book I wrote wasn’t that funny, was it?
The cold morning breeze gripped my body. This discomfort was similar to selling my first novel at a cosplay event. While other booths were selling merchandise or photos of sexy cosplayers, I was enthusiastically selling my first novel batch.
There was no hope of selling it in one scoop, due to the poor quality of my writing. However, that’s what drove me to keep improving. That first, unsold, and critically acclaimed sale spurred me on. The first criticism came from an online novel readers, and my story underwent a major stylistic change. Full of non-standard vocabulary and various typos that can be interpreted as several words.
I have to admit, changing from Japanese to English was difficult. I also didn’t know the difference between British English and American English. Such a complex language had to contend with Japanese, which has so many implicit meanings.
No wonder my novels are so bad to read, because I simply don’t understand cultures outside my own country.
"Huumm~ Huumm~" Master Amagi mumbled in a happy-sounding tone; she even moved her legs to swing under the chair.
Her eyes kept moving, reading my handwriting.
"Ah! So it has to be like that?"
"Hmm~ now I understand why it didn’t work. My imagination was too complicated to burn candles with the flames that burned down the royal library."
"I understand now~."
Master Amagi muttered as if telling me something.
Sqquueesshh...
Sqquueesshh...
Caress...
Caress...
While Master Amagi was busy reading a book, I felt Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s hand pull at my cheek again.
This time, it was accompanied by a gentle pat on Master Amagi’s head.
"Do you like read it, Amagi?" the Marchioness asked in a gentle tone.
"Yeah, I like read it. It’s much easier to understand than magic books written by other people."
"You think the same as me. Liliana’s magic book would be too precious to read alone, right?"
"H-Huuh?" Master Amagi’s eyebrows shot up.
"Want to try printing your handwriting magic book using Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s name, Liliana?"
The sudden question took me by surprise. So did the Duchess, who was sitting next to me. She was so shocked that she almost choked on her tea.
"That’s too much, Shinano," said the Duchess, wiping her lips with a handkerchief.
"Why not? If it helps Amagi understand magic quickly, then Liliana’s teaching method is indeed effective, right? I’ve been teaching others using the method of reading magic books and understanding their meanings independently. I don’t provide any special lessons other than helping others imagine something in their heads. So, this is a great opportunities to learn magic in new perspective rather than in complexity language."
"Because the concept of noble magic is like that, right? I don’t understand magic as deeply as you do, who know a lot difficult magic book. But I mastered some of the magic I need when wielding a sword in easy language."
"Yes, it is precisely because of that! That people don’t understand the concept of magic with a different imagination or language, Duchess."
Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg suddenly took my magic book that was being read by Master Amagi.
"Just read this magic book written by Liliana. You will understand what I mean."
Master Amagi, who was smiling while reading my magic book, now puffed out her cheeks even bigger.
"Mom, I haven’t finished reading the delayed magic part yet!" grumbled the cute-looking Master Amagi.
Caress...
Caress...
With a cuteness that showed off her beautiful face, Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg stroked her hair quickly.
"No need to frown like that. There’s still Liliana who can explain it, right?"
"Ah! That’s right. Liliana!!" Master Amagi’s curious eyes were directed at me.
My body, which was sitting on Marchioness Shinano Vii Lichtberg’s lap, was shaken by Master Amagi’s strong hand.
"Please teach me about delayed magic!"
"I want to master it quickly!"
It seems, I teased Master Amagi’s curiosity too much. She, who was excited about new magic, pulled my arm down from her mother’s lap.
"Don’t force Liliana, Amagi. You don’t want Liliana to run away from you, do you?"
"Liliana won’t be able to escape from me, Mom!" Master Amagi replied quickly.
A sudden surge of cold air hit my body. Her voice wasn’t particularly loud, but it already frightened me with Master Amagi’s possessive nature. A strong pull of her hand ripped me from the Marchioness’s lap.
Master Amagi pulled me by the arm to a garden courtyard filled with practice target dummies. It was the practice target dummies the old butler had brought with him before.
So, they were placed in here?
"Please teach me about delayed magic incantations, Liliana!" Master Amagi asked in a loud voice.
Kirraa...
Kirraa...
Her eyes suddenly filled with dazzling light.
Was it caused by my handwriting magic book?
I don’t know, but she’s definitely excited to training right now.
"M-Magic casting delayed? You want to learn in, Master Amagi?" I said, asking her back.
"Yes! Teach me about delayed magic incantations, Liliana! It’s very important for something I’m about to do!"
"S-Something you’re going to do?"
Somehow, I could feel a bad feeling about this.
"You know... Reina is always cold and mean to me, right? I want to do something that will make us really close, like friends. This delayed magic spell is very necessary for that!"
"O-Ohh, you want to tease Master Reina? S-Sure, I’ll teach you, but don’t tease Master Reina too much."
"Don’t worry, I’ll make sure she’ll be close to me like a friend!" Master Amagi replied with a suspicious smile.
I knew her intentions were bad. Anyone else would have been fooled by Master Amagi’s pretense of wanting to be close to Master Reina. But to me, who understands Master Amagi’s character to the core, she simply wanted to tease Master Reina without being caught.
Well, that’s just how kids are.
It’s natural to be mischievous of each other.
"You’ve read most of it, right?" I asked, just to be sure.
"Yes, but I’m still confused. Teach me with a detailed explanation, Liliana!"
Kiirraa...
Kiiirraa...
The bright light in her eyes cut off any possibility of rejection. There was no other option but to accept Master Amagi’s offer.
I sighed and stretched my arms out in front of me.
My mind was filled with the warm flames of a fire on a cold night.
"Fire..." I said with a half-finished magic chant.
After chanting half of the Fireball magic chant, I looked at Master Amagi, who continued to watch me with shining eyes.
"That’s the initial incantation of Fireball magic, right?"
"Should it stop at the Fire pronunciation part?" asked Master Amagi, who had now grown dog ears and a dog tail, moving quickly and wagging her tail like a curious dog.
No, no, I just imagined Master Amagi as a dog-eared girl in my mind. She didn’t actually turn into a dog girl.
"Based on the pronunciation of the magic language, I think it would be fitting to cut it off at the Fire part... then continue with Ball," I replied while continuing my delayed magic chant.
Swooosssshh!!
Booossshh!!
Sparks lit the cold air before my eyes. They grew like a quietly burning tennis ball and shot toward the target dummy.
Baaammm!!
Explosions of fire reached my ears.
"Something that my mother thought was impossible, but Liliana was able to do it."
"Doesn’t that sound funny, Liliana?"
"Then, I will try it..."
"B-Before that... Uh, can you hug me from behind, Liliana?"
"Because I’m... A little bit feel cold now," Master Amagi asked with a sweet smile on her face.
