Southern Continent.
Eldorath Empire.
Tropus State.
The air was extremely humid here.
Tropus State was called Tropus State because of its tropical environment. Year-round, it was very chilly. Rain fell throughout the year. Also, unlike other states in the empire currently experiencing winter, Tropus State was evergreen. A perfect way to describe Tropus State was that it experienced spring year-round.
Currently, it was raining heavily. An aircraft glided through the clouds.
11 operatives from Sector 3 of the Eldorath Empire Military Frontlines were in it.
"We’ve been flying for more than 10 hours. When are we arriving?" one of the female captains said.
"Anytime soon," another replied. "However, we will need to park the aircraft at a military outpost outside the safe zone of Emrea City, and continue towards Zone Zero on foot."
Everyone nodded.
They could not take the aircraft to Zone Zero. The environment there would cause the aircraft to be destroyed. If that happened, how would they return to the Frontlines after completing the mission?
Leaving the aircraft at a safe military outpost was the best course of action at the moment.
The aircraft descended after a few hours.
Aiden looked through the windows.
Cities and forests stretched below.
Eventually, the aircraft descended towards one of the cities, Emrea City.
Aiden had never deactivated his enhanced hearing and sight.
He observed everything below.
People scurrying the streets of the city with umbrellas. Car horns blaring in the distance. Billboards displaying ads, among others.
Throughout the journey, he had been on the lookout for obvious assassinations. It was possible that some of the industries that wanted him dead had sent assassins after him.
However, he didn’t identify any one following the aircraft, or lurking across the horizon.
He theorised that because the mission was very important to Sector 3, DeepSea didn’t leak their route to the assassins.
"We are landing. I’ve already made contact with the outpost, operatives manned there await our arrival," the captain piloting the aircraft said.
Eventually, the aircraft descended towards the outpost before the danger zone of Emrea City.
***
Two operatives stood before a landing clearing of the outpost of Emrea City before the danger zone. They were legendary rank 2 warriors.
The duo held umbrellas on their heads. They didn’t want to get wet from the rain.
"Shit. When are they arriving?"
"I know, right? I was in the middle of some heated stuff when the call came."
"Good for you. I haven’t had any fun in a long time. By the way, who do you think these operatives are?"
"They are captains. Ten of them. According to the details I got from the one who called about the landing."
"Wow. Captains?"
"Yeah, ten advanced rank 3 warriors."
"What??? Are you sure we are the ones supposed to receive them? I mean, they are the real deal after all."
"Don’t worry. They are not here to stay. They are just here to park their aircraft and leave."
"Really. That’s a relief... I’m tired of arrogant captains lording it over us subordinates who are temporarily not stationed at the Frontlines whenever they get the chance."
"Yeah, whatever. But there’s a legendary rank 2 warrior with them."
"Heh. I wonder who the legendary rank 2 warrior is."
"Oh look, the aircraft is almost here."
"Hey, don’t you feel like the air feels a bit suffocating all of a sudden?"
"I don’t think so."
****
In the aircraft, Aiden was still on his guard.
Suddenly, his vision picked up on something unusual.
"What the hell is that?" he thought.
He narrowed his gaze towards the horizon.
That was when he saw it.
It was a palm print. A lightning palm print.
It was headed towards them. The person who had launched the attack floated on the clouds. A pair of wings formed from lightning was attached to his back.
He looked very domineering.
"That fellow should be at least an expert rank 3 warrior. I have to evacuate. But I should at least inform them about what I’ve seen. If they die, surviving Zone Zero will be very difficult."
"We need to evacuate now," Aiden said.
Before the others had the chance to respond, blobs of blood appeared before Aiden and turned into crimson wings. Some of the blobs of blood turned into crimson armor and completely graced his figure.
His hands crushed through the windows of the aircraft and flew out of the aircraft.
He flapped his crimson wings with preternatural speed and dove away from the aircraft completely.
His figure was like a streak of red light as he disappeared towards the danger zone of Emrea City. That was the most convenient safe location for him at the moment.
****
The two operatives standing in the outpost, waiting for the aircraft to descend, were shocked at the sight.
A fellow with crimson wings in a crimson battlesuit had suddenly shattered the glass of one of the windows of the aircraft. After that, he turned into a streak of crimson light and disappeared towards the danger zone. What the hell was going on?
Very soon, they couldn’t see the crimson-armored figure anymore. He was completely gone.
The next thing they saw left them shocked.
Three more operatives shot out of the aircraft with unimaginable speed and dashed towards the danger zone, too.
Before the other operatives in the aircraft could leave it, a domineering-looking azure lightning palm print appeared near the aircraft in the blink of an eye.
The azure lightning palmprint crashed into the aircraft and blew it up into smithereens.
Not even ashes of the aircraft were left. The remaining 7 operatives in the aircraft, advanced rank 3 warriors, had died. Just like that?
After that, the azure lightning palmprint flickered out of existence.
The two operatives in the outpost quickly entered the outpost, not daring to poke their noses into something beyond them. Whatever was happening was beyond them. The operatives who had fled from the aircraft definitely had some business with the person behind the lightning attack. It was none of their business. Their mission was to guard the outpost, not poke their noses into battles that had nothing to do with them.
****
Somewhere in the clouds, a man with azure wings formed from lightning sighed.
"Four of them managed to escape, huh? These Eldorath Empire bastards. To think they’d try to claim the ruins for themselves.
It’s a good thing we sent spies to Sector 3. If they are allowed to consolidate this newly discovered cultivation haven for themselves, their military manpower will increase," the man said.
According to spy intel, the location of the newly discovered cultivation haven was in a place formerly known a hundred years ago as Astro City.
He was aware that the ruins of Astro City were beyond the danger zones of Emrea City of the Eldorath Empire.
100 years ago, Astro City was a city located on the borders of Cyrenthia Empire and the Eldorath Empire. It meant that Astro City in a way didn’t fully belong to the Eldorath Empire, nor did it fully belong to the Cyrenthia Empire.
This meant that the discovered ruins had to be shared between the Cyrenthia Empire and the Eldorath Empire. But these Eldorath Empire fuckers had covertly decided to claim the ruins, full of extremely dense worldly energy, for themselves. As a major of the Cyrenthia Empire military, stationed at the Frontlines, there was no way he’d allow that to happen.
By hook or crook, Cyrenthia Empire had to secure the ruins of Astro City, full of dense worldly energy, for themselves.
If the Eldorath Empire secured these ruins for themselves, they could become more powerful than the Cyrenthia Empire and cause trouble for them.
"To think they’d act so fast and send operatives to consolidate the place. Even after arriving here quickly to get rid of them after getting the intel from our spies, I still lost four of them. But I don’t think they will survive. The environment will deal with them. I should return and inform the higher-ups at our Frontlines about this new development. We need to send our own team to Zone Zero. If they want to play, we will play with them," the man muttered to himself.
The man turned into a streak of azure lightning and disappeared towards the distance.
