Somewhere in the Kahra Desert.

A heavy, metal-reinforced vehicle gleamed under the scorching sun, leaving trails of dust in its wake.

Inside the vehicle, the MadCity enforcers were seated at the front. The mysterious senior and his acquaintance were seated at the back. A couple of other warriors were also seated in the middle section of the vehicle. They were from different towns, but they had gathered enough money to go to MadCity.

Although the strong preyed on the weak regardless of where one went in the Kahra Desert, life in the cities was better than life in the towns.

"When are we arriving?" a lady in the back seat grumbled silently.

They had been traveling for almost three hours. When were they going to arrive? She was really tired and needed to get some rest. She was pregnant, after all. But the road that led to MadCity was known for having several raiders across it.

Everyone was vigilant. Even though the MadCity enforcers were strong, if things turned out for the worst, they would only save themselves and leave the others for dead.

Naturally, the enforcers didn’t mind the woman. Annoying passengers who thought the world revolved around them were not worth their time. If she was so desperate to get to MadCity, they would give her money back so she could trek on foot.

An advanced rank 2 warrior, on whose chest the lady was resting, furrowed his brows. "She asked you a question and she needs an answer. As passengers, we have paid for the fare. It’s only natural that you answer our questions. Do you not know anything about customer service?"

The other passengers were shocked at the arrogant behavior of the couple.

"Are these guys on drugs?" Dickinson couldn’t help but sigh.

Almost everyone in the vehicle, including the enforcers, laughed.

"Nice one there, sir."

"These two fuckers are definitely on something."

"Yeah, if you want to arrive in MadCity so badly and you think the vehicle is slow, you can get off and trek there. Don’t forget that these enforcers have been passing through this route for a long time. Naturally, they know places not lurking with too many chaotic beasts and raiders. Because of this, encountering danger is minimal. But can you say the same thing for yourselves?"

"You..."

The couple didn’t know what to say.

"Look, my fiancee is pregnant, okay? You guys should quit blaming us for being oversensitive," the man said.

Expressions of understanding flashed through several eyes.

"Sorry we were being too harsh earlier. But just because you are pregnant doesn’t mean you should be rude to others," one of the passengers said.

"We apologize," the couple said to the enforcers.

"It’s alright. How far along are you?" an enforcer asked.

"Seven months," the lady said.

"Almost due, huh?" Dickinson said. "That’s good."

The man stared at Dickinson with a hostile expression. This fellow was the one who had cracked stupid jokes about them. He had added to the stress of his fiance. For that, he needed to teach him a lesson when they arrived in MadCity.

What if the fellow was an advanced rank 2 warrior? He was an advanced rank 2 warrior, too!

As for the young man seated near the fellow, his eyes were currently closed. Heh. He didn’t understand how dangerous the desert was, did he? How could he be asleep right now? If something happens, won’t he die?

Dickinson shrugged. What’s this guy’s problem? he thought, and kept silent.

BOOMMMMM!!!

A sound echoed across the place as the vehicle shook.

"Shit, raiders!" the enforcers said.

One of them had launched a fireball outside the car to intercept the ice ball that shot toward them. Shockwaves spread across the area as the two attacks collided. The two attacks were equally matched; they destroyed each other and dissipated.

The car pulled to a stop. The enforcers stepped out of the vehicle.

Aiden’s eyes snapped open. His eyes were already crimson. During the journey, his enhanced hearing, sight, and smell had been active. He had been scanning the place for any unforeseen situations, like bandit attacks or chaotic beast attacks. There was no way he would trust someone else with his safety.

A group of people clad in rusty battlesuits appeared around the car. The leader had ice flickering across his figure. He was obviously the one who had launched the attack earlier.

"Step out of the car and hand over your storage bags, and we will let you off!" the leader of the entourage said.

An expression of terror appeared on the faces of the enforcers. The raiders numbered fifty, and there were only five of them. There was no way they could take on these people.

The passengers felt hopeless. Naturally, because they were from different towns, they didn’t know that a legendary rank 2 warrior was seated in the backseat. They had heard about the mysterious Lodgekeeper of Rustwater Town, but they didn’t know he was the one seated in the backseat.

The pregnant woman and her fiance put their hands on the woman’s belly. The man was trying to comfort the baby. As for the enforcers, they were so focused on how to deal with the bandits that they had forgotten that a powerhouse was seated calmly in the backseat.

Dickinson was also calm. He knew what the Lodgekeeper was capable of.

Suddenly, a tiny dot appeared on the foreheads of all the raiders. The affinity attacks they were preparing disappeared. Then, their vision started blanketing.

Who? How was this possible? There was a powerhouse in the car?

If they had known, they would have never attempted to raid this car. These were their last thoughts before their dead bodies fell onto the desert floor and kicked up clouds of dust. Expressions of puzzlement and terror were on their faces.

The fifty raiders, who had arrived in an overbearing manner, were dead before they could even throw their weight around.

Everyone, except Dickinson, was completely shocked.

Who? Someone had killed the raiders.

Thank goodness. But who could be powerful enough to kill them like that? No one saw anyone launch an attack.

Suddenly, the enforcers turned around and walked toward the backseat. They looked at the mysterious senior at the back.

Aiden had already absorbed the blood essence of the corpses. His crimson eyes were now back to their blue color. His eyes were closed again, as if what he had just pulled off meant nothing to him.

"Senior... thank you for saving our lives," the enforcers said.

This ordinary-looking senior was extremely powerful. He was the only legendary rank 2 warrior among the passengers. If he was not the one who had killed the group of raiders, who else could it be?

Aiden simply nodded with his eyes closed. He had only killed those raiders because if the enforcers died, getting to MadCity would be difficult for him. It wasn’t some heroic feat, but he didn’t owe anyone an explanation, so they were free to think what they wanted.

The couple and every passenger, apart from Dickinson, were shocked.

This unassuming person they had considered ordinary was the one who had saved them?
