Ascension of the last Celestial

Chapter 61: Born from the Same Soul

Valerian was falling, or maybe he was rising? He didn’t know; after using the new ability of his unique skill, he found himself here.

And it wasn’t an unfamiliar place, because this was where he met his mother and found himself after the physique creation. It was his soul space, the place that represents what and who Valerian is.

It was the beautiful cosmos. Back when he first appeared here, it was kind of dead, not many stars or galaxies. But now it felt alive, though there was still something missing. Valerian tried to identify the feeling, but the more he tried to understand it, the farther away the answer went.

So he gave up for now, because there had to be a reason he was here. The first time, he activated his cosmic dragon form for the first time and got to interact with his mother, who he presumed was the cosmic dragon side of him.

The second time, he combined his races into one full race, and acquired a physique that literally could make him immortal, and he also became a [God Candidate] shortly after.

So now that he found himself back here, it must mean something is happening, and he could already guess it had something to do with [Law Breaker].

"You’re right, that’s why you’re here."

A feminine voice called from the vastness of space. It sounded young, maybe his age, and nothing like his mother’s, which he remembered like it was burned into his mind.

"You’re right, I’m not your mother, hehe."

The female voice said with a small giggle, like she could read Valerian’s mind.

"Show yourself, now."

"Ohh, scary, hehe."

The fact that the female voice didn’t take him seriously one bit made an annoyed frown appear on Valerian’s handsome face.

"But I guess you’re right, haa."

With a sigh that sounded a bit annoyed, the voice disappeared for a second. Valerian waited nervously inside the void for the girl to appear.

From nothing, a bright white light appeared inside the endless void of space. It was so bright that Valerian couldn’t look inside it and had to protect his eyes with his arms.

The shine didn’t last too long, and Valerian moved his arms to take a look at the girl that was inside his soul space for some reason.

But when he saw her, he didn’t know what to say or think.

She was beautiful, like the goddess of beauty herself carved her out of the finest marble, but that wasn’t the thing that caused Valerian to lose his thoughts.

The reason he lost every thought he tried to form was because she looked exactly like him, like she was his long-lost identical twin sister.

She had long silver-white hair that reached past her hips. The same two onyx horns with a gentle purple light shining inside them that sat on Valerian’s head decorated her head. Her eyes were the same slitted cosmic purple with a miniature galaxy floating inside. She was around 15, no, Valerian knew she was 15, but even for her age, she had a mature body with full curves that only made her more eye-catching. Just from looking at her, Valerian knew that her charm stat was also SSS.

She wore a long, pure white dress that hugged her figure, and the fabric followed her every movement.

She had a mischievous grin while she looked at the stunned Valerian.

"I know I’m beautiful, but quit staring, it’s getting creepy, Val."

Valerian was taken out of his thoughts, and the nickname she used made him only more curious about who she was. And so he asked:

"Who are you?"

The second he said the question out loud, it came to him like the final puzzle piece he had been searching for for so long finally clicked, and he knew the answer.

The girl’s grin grew wider and her purple eyes began to shine.

"Say it."

"You are..."

"[Law Breaker]."

The girl’s mischievous grin turned into a wide and bright smile that could sway anyone who looked at her, man or woman.

"Correct!"

It was a weird feeling to talk to the unique skill Valerian didn’t think of as more than a tool for the longest time.

"But how is that possible? Does that mean that all unique skills have a personality? And why do you look like me?"

Valerian had a lot of questions, and [Law Breaker] seemed more than happy to answer them.

A white garden table and two chairs appeared from nothing; Valerian recognized them as furniture that Freya had in her garden.

[Law Breaker] gestured for Valerian to sit as she took her own seat. Valerian complied without hesitation. When he sat down, a glass with a straw and a brownish liquid appeared before him and the girl.

When Valerian looked at the drink, he knew instantly what it was, it was his favorite drink.

"Chocolate milk! You really have taste!"

Valerian sucked on the straw of the chocolate milk with a dreamy expression; [Law Breaker] followed closely behind him and had the same dreamy expression on her face.

"Chocolate milk really is the best~"

Both of them didn’t talk and just drank their drink until both glasses were empty, when a whirlpool appeared in the glass and the chocolate milk refilled itself.

This time, taking a slower approach to his drink, Valerian finally began to ask the question he had been dying to know the answer to since he first saw her:

"Do you mind explaining everything?"

[Law Breaker] smiled and, with a nod, began.

"Like you already know, I am your unique skill [Law Breaker], and I know the question you want to know the answer to the most is why I look like you, right?"

Valerian nodded.

"Well, to explain that, let me ask you first: what is a unique skill?"

Valerian fell into thought. Normally, he would have said it’s just a unique ability that can only exist once, but after meeting her, he wasn’t so sure anymore. Since he had no answer that would satisfy himself, he chose the most basic:

"It’s a unique ability to a single person."

[Law Breaker] put a finger to her chin, like she was thinking about the answer.

"Yes and no, you are partially right. Ahem, so let me explain it from the very beginning. Long, long ago, all the unique skills that exist were created together with the creation of the universe. The reason is that only a God can create a unique skill, and that is what the God that created our universe did."

While it was information that was incredibly worthy, it wasn’t what interested him, but he did think twice when she mentioned "God", or rather "a God".

"After the creation of all unique skills, they each went into the cosmos to find a host. Some found one instantly, others searched for millions of years. But eventually, they all found their host. But after some time, they died, and what would happen to a unique skill when the host dies?"

"They would find another."

[Law Breaker] smiled brightly.

"Correct! All of them found their new host, and then eventually this new host died, and they found another. This is what a unique skill is, an ability that only exists for one person at a time."

"So why do you look like me?"

[Law Breaker] looked at Valerian with a pout at the interruption.

"I was about to get to that. Ahem, like I said, that is how a unique skill works, but I’m different. Or rather, you are different, because I wasn’t created at the beginning of the universe, I was created by you at your birth."

Now Valerian was completely confused.

"Didn’t you say only a God can create a unique skill? So how did baby me do it?"

[Law Breaker] scratched the back of her head nervously.

"Eehm, I dunno."

"..."

Valerian looked at the girl that could be his twin with a blank face; all this information, and she didn’t know the most important part.

"Hey, that’s mean! At least let me tell you why I look like you!"

Valerian’s interest was taken from the missing piece of information.

"We unique skills, those that were created at the beginning of time and an outlier like me, we all take a form that resembles our first holder. And since you somehow created me when you were a baby, I also was born at the same time as you, like a twin. But we are more than just siblings; I am part of you, you are part of me. We both share the same soul anchor. So for me, that means that I can feel what you feel, see what you see. And you can access my ability on a scale that a normal unique skill wouldn’t be able to deliver."

Knowing that there was someone that was like him made a warm feeling spread through Valerian, and [Law Breaker] seemed to feel it too, as she smiled gently.

"But what was that ability I activated at the end of the fight with Goran?"

The girl seemed to be excited to talk about her abilities, as she began proudly:

"That was a domain. A domain is a space that is isolated from the rest of the dimension, and inside that space, the person can use an even stronger version of their unique skill. You see, you only get a domain if you resonate with your unique skill and bring its very nature into reality. And the domain you used against the bearman was the domain accessible through me. It creates a small area around you in which you can erase, manipulate, or create laws. Though at your current rank, the range is only a few centimeters around your body, and the mana cost would drain you in about one minute."

It was an insane ability: to create, erase, and manipulate any law he can think of. Just how big would the range be in the future? A city? A county? Maybe the whole planet. Or if he gets strong enough, the whole universe?

"But you shouldn’t use it recklessly. With it, you are, after all, influencing the laws of the universe, and if you do it too much before you become stronger, the universe might crush you for trying to mess with it."

Like a cold bucket of water was splashed over his head, the excitement of using his domain died down.

"You really had to ruin it, [Law Breaker]."

The girl in front of him suddenly looked like she was uncomfortable, or maybe nervous.

"Hmm, what is it?"

Valerian tilted his head in confusion.

"Eehm, it’s just... before, I was okay with you just seeing me as a skill, because you couldn’t know better. But now that you know, I..."

"You want a name."

Valerian finished her sentence for her, causing her face to fill up red. In a small voice, she whispered:

"Yes, I want a name."

Valerian laughed lightly and smiled at her. The girl that was acting so shy in front of him was a skill. But she was also the closest he had to a real family.

’A real sister, huh.’

"Don’t laugh at m-"

"Valerie. Valerie von Astrea, that’s your name."
