’What is happening here?!’

Arthur couldn’t believe what he was seeing unfold in front of him. The dead forest with grey trees and a colorless sky that looked like it was pushed through a grey filter was regaining its colors.

The trees that had their very concept of vitality robbed from them for over 10 years were slowly turning green again. From the ground, new flowers bloomed, bringing back life to the area.

’What is Valerian doing there? He said this is "home," what the fuck does that mean?’

After he saw the seriousness in Valerian, he decided to stay back and let him do what he came here for. But he couldn’t have guessed that he would revive the entire area.

Arthur was flying high in the air and watching the green spread when he saw Valerian’s figure fly up to him.

When they were face-to-face with each other, Arthur could clearly see Valerian’s red and puffy eyes, but he chose to ignore it.

"So... are we finished here?"

Valerian obviously knew how he looked and was thankful that Arthur wasn’t trying to ask questions, even though it would be completely reasonable to ask after what had just happened.

"Yeah, I’m done with the Voidwoods. What about you? Is there something you still want to do?"

Now that Valerian was thinking about it, he never asked why Arthur would go into such a dangerous place alone. But since Arthur also didn’t ask, he didn’t beat himself up too much about it.

"Nah, I just want to go and have a nice long bath. This forest is not just dangerous, but also disgusting."

Valerian could only agree with Arthur; he hated not being able to shower.

"Perfect. I will call, and then they will open a portal and we can go."

Valerian turned around and took out the slab of stone he used to locate the orphanage, when he heard Arthur make a sound from behind.

"Ahem, so what I wanted to ask... well... you said you were rich, right? So I was wondering... if maybe I could stay with you for a bit?"

Valerian looked at Arthur with a blank face, while Arthur was getting red like he asked him out or something.

"Stop it, I’m getting goosebumps."

Valerian made a retching motion, disgusted by his friend’s behavior. The shy attitude disappeared from Arthur and was replaced by an annoyed face.

"Then don’t. And here I thought I made a friend."

"Just shut up, I never said I’m not letting you stay."

Arthur’s mood shifted instantly again, now looking at Valerian with big eyes like he saved him from sleeping on the streets.

"But I’m not exactly rich, it’s a bit... different."

Arthur raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?"

"You will see."

Left to guess, Arthur’s mind went into crazy theories about his friend’s social status. But Valerian just ignored him and channeled his mana into the slab.

Within a minute, a glowing purple portal appeared in front of them, gathering their attention.

Valerian looked at the portal for a second in deep thought.

"What’s wrong? Why are you not going?"

Valerian turned around to Arthur with a charming smile.

"Ah, it’s nothing, friend, but I think you should go first."

"Yeah, not suspicious at all."

Arthur didn’t buy it, but he was too tired to argue and just went ahead and entered the portal, disappearing from the forest.

"Haa."

Valerian let out a sigh and also entered the portal. The transition was seamless, without any disorientation or weird feeling.

When he exited on the other side, he was met with the exact sight he wanted to avoid.

After Arthur entered the portal and arrived in the castle, he was immediately met with a heavy force slamming into his stomach. The force behind it sent him flying backwards, almost entering the portal again.

’What the fuck?!’

His mind instantly went back into fight mode and he began to channel his mana, but as soon as his mana left his core, he felt an overwhelming weight crash into him. It wasn’t a physical weight, but the mana in the air began to crush him and a cold female voice entered his ears.

"What did you do to Valerian?"

He began to sweat hard as it became difficult to breathe. He forced his eyes open and was met with a sight he didn’t expect.

A small blond head was buried in his stomach, and when the person who hugged him heard the cold voice, she looked up. Arthur looked straight into the bewildered and confused crimson eyes of Elena Solaria, Valerian’s adoptive sister.

"Who are you?"

Before Arthur could say anything, to his luck, another person exited the portal and stepped into the teleportation chamber.

"Thank fuck you are here."

Arthur couldn’t be more thankful that Valerian was finally here, before the cold female voice could kill him.

"Val!"

The little girl immediately shot up from Arthur and dashed towards Valerian, who caught her as she hugged him.

"Hey El, I’m back."

"My sweet boy!"

The cold female voice transformed into the warm voice of Freya as she, too, embraced Valerian, squeezing Elena in between them.

"I can’t breathe, Mom!"

Hearing the choking words of her daughter, Freya pulled away.

"I’m sorry, honey."

When she saw that Elena was okay, she turned back to Valerian and took a good look at him with a skeptical face.

"You look different. And did you dye your hair? I swear it was whiter the last time."

Valerian chuckled lightly at her observation. Indeed, his hair did change slightly when he gained his physique. For some reason, it changed from snow-white to silver-white.

"A few things happened. And by the way, the guy you almost killed is my friend."

Freya was more than surprised at the mention of a friend, and her eyes snapped back to Arthur, who was still lying on the floor.

"Oh, I’m so sorry, I didn’t expect Valerian to make a friend... so soon."

She quickly added the last part, but Valerian clearly heard how she originally wanted to say that she didn’t expect him to make a friend at all. But to celebrate his homecoming, he chose to ignore it.

Arthur quickly gathered himself and stood up, performing a perfect bow with a charming smile.

"Oh, you don’t have to apologize, my lady. I wasn’t aware that Valerian had such a beautiful sister, haha."

Valerian looked at Arthur with a blank face, clearly seeing through his attempt to charm Freya.

"Dude, stop it, and that’s not my sister."

"Huh?"

Caught red-handed, Arthur quickly composed himself.

"Anyway... my name is Arthur von Pendragon, and it is a pleasure to meet you."

Freya smiled at him with a perfectly practiced smile.

"The pleasure is all mine, Arthur. My name is Freya Solaria, and for the past decade, we took little Valerian under our wing. So we are more than pleased that he finally made a friend."

"Solaria... where did I hear that again?" Arthur mumbled to himself.

Valerian ignored him and just dragged Arthur by the collar out of the chamber.

"I will catch up with the old man," Valerian said to Freya as he left with Arthur in tow, and Freya couldn’t help but smile at him.

’He finally has a friend...’

She felt overjoyed that Valerian finally wasn’t alone anymore. Freya turned her attention back to her daughter.

"Let’s go to your father too."

Valerian was walking side-by-side with Arthur through the hallways of the castle, while Arthur looked around at the high ceilings and expensive decorations.

"Dude, you must be loaded."

"I already told you it’s different."

"Yeah, yeah, and why didn’t you tell me that your mother is such a hottie? Is the husband still in the picture?"

Space folded around Arthur, and he suddenly found himself upside down at his previous spot.

"Huh?"

Gravity caught up to him, and he crashed down on the hard floor headfirst.

"Yes, he is, idiot."

The fall didn’t really do any damage and it didn’t even hurt that much, but Arthur’s pride was severely bruised after that, and they just continued their walk in silence.

After a few more minutes of awkward silence, they finally reached two double doors decorated with a golden sun and silver markings.

The two guards standing in front of the doors immediately opened them once Valerian was close enough, and the large throne room was revealed.

"Wait, isn’t this too big for just a noble?"

Valerian just ignored him and continued walking. At the end of the hall was a throne, and Helias sat upon it.

"Welcome back, son. I was told you brought back a friend."

"Yeah, he will be staying with us until the academy starts."

Helias just nodded, showing no problem with that. But Arthur had a whole different problem right next to Valerian.

’That’s a king. That’s a fucking king. Now it makes sense—the hot woman’s name was Solaria. This is the fucking King of Solaria.’

Valerian cleared his throat next to Arthur.

"Let me introduce you two. This is Arthur von Pendragon, my friend. And this is..."

Valerian gestured to Helias with his hand.

"...Helias Solaria, the King of the Solaria Kingdom."

’Fuck me.’

After the meeting, time flew by fast inside the castle. Valerian spent most of the time holding up the promise he made to Elena before leaving for the forest.

Arthur wholly enjoyed his time at the castle, sleeping late and eating like he was the king himself. And like that, the last month until the academy passed, and it was now the evening before the academy’s start.
