It had been a month since they claimed the buried spaceship.

The vessel was almost fully repaired. Daily system checks ran smoothly, resources were loaded into the storage holds, and the Qi stones from the cave had been completely cleared out. The ship hummed with quiet power, its engines tested and ready, its systems stable and responsive. The robots worked tirelessly in the background, their sleek black frames moving with mechanical precision as they performed final maintenance.

Their routine had become almost ritualistic.

They woke early each day, ate together in the spacious dining hall, studied cultivation records and ship schematics, and then trained. Elara had not yet faced live opponents in the training room. She preferred to practice her footwork and blade forms in private, moving with graceful precision through the open spaces. She hadn’t explained why she avoided sparring, and neither Lian nor Lirien pressed the issue. Lirien had provided her with a training construct — a holographic partner that mimicked real combat without the risk of death. It was a gentle compromise, allowing Elara to build confidence at her own pace.

Lian, on the other hand, had been dying and coming back to life almost every day.

He couldn’t count how many times he had faced death in the training room. Each time, the pain was fresh, the fear raw. He still screamed when the killing blows landed. He still woke gasping, body shaking, mind fractured from the repeated trauma. The representative — even at lowered levels — was a nightmare he couldn’t escape.

Today was the same.

Lian came back to life once more, the pain of his bones being broken and his body torn apart still echoing through his nerves. He lay on the white floor of the training room, chest heaving, sweat dripping from his skin. His mind was a haze of agony and exhaustion. The representative stood motionless a short distance away, waiting for the next round.

Lirien walked over to him, her small footsteps soft on the floor. She stopped right in front of him.

“Master, I am going to lower the cultivation on him to your level,” she said calmly. “Because you can’t keep up.”

Lian stared at her, then breathed a sigh of relief. The tension in his shoulders eased slightly. But the relief quickly turned to confusion and frustration.

“Why are you doing this now?” he asked, his voice low and strained.

“Because you can’t keep up, or fight back,” Lirien replied simply. “You just shake and die quickly. When I was at your level, I could kill enemies at Nebula Dominion Realm easily.”

Lian’s face showed clear surprise. He swallowed hard.

Lirien waved her hand, and the system voice echoed through the training room.

“Stellar Circuit Star 1. Level lowered.”

The oppressive aura of the representative suddenly cleared. The suffocating pressure that had filled the room vanished. The representative no longer looked like an untouchable god. He stood there, still dangerous, but now within reach.

“At least Master won’t go dying again,” Lirien said softly.

Lian’s eyebrows lowered. Shame flickered across his face, though he tried to hide it. He quickly got ready, dropping into a fighting stance. The tension in the room was thick, electric.

Lirien had moved to a corner, watching quietly.

Lian launched forward.

In his mind, he thought he had a fighting chance now that the level was matched. But he was wrong.

The representative blurred, appearing right in front of him with terrifying speed. Even at the lowered level, the difference in foundation and technique was overwhelming. A punch came so fast that Lian barely blocked it by reflex. The force pushed him back hard, his feet sliding across the floor. What is this? he thought, mind racing. Why is he so much stronger than me? Even at the same level, everything about him is superior.

His mind struggled to process it as the fight continued. Lirien watched from the side, her small figure calm.

“I know what you are thinking right now,” Lirien said, walking to him. “Why is it stronger than me?”

“Your foundation is weak,” she continued. “You are at Star 1 but a Core Condensation can kill you. Your cultivation is rushed. I am thinking you used the method of removing people body parts and consuming them.”

“It pushed your cultivation but it didn’t help your foundation. This is where you stand,” she said, walking away. The representative moved immediately. Lian had no time to defend himself.

More screams continued, this time worse, because he wasn’t dying instantly.
