Asmodeus System: Stealing My Bully's Mother
Chapter 88: ⁸⁸Terror At The Southern BorderThe night in Valen Village felt increasingly dense. Light snow fell in silence, blanketing the wooden roofs that still held the soot from the recent fires.
Inside the Valen family’s study, silence pressed heavily against the air.
Asrof’s report regarding the loss of the southern fields still hung in the room. The fireplace in the corner began to dim, leaving behind red embers that crackled softly.
Behind the old mahogany desk, Ethan Valen sat as still as stone.
His black shirt was slightly messy, the top two buttons undone. His dark brown hair fell, partially obscuring his forehead. The quill in his right hand remained motionless. His eyes stared straight at the dying candle stub—radiating absolute coldness.
Creeaak...
The door hinges creaked softly. The wooden door opened, then closed again without a knock.
Lilith stepped inside.
The Rank S Succubus was still wearing the frayed black-and-white maid dress, but her condition was far from tidy. Her pink hair was half-wet, clinging to her neck.
Her black nails had now shortened.
However, something was different tonight.
Lilith’s golden-red eyes were no longer dim. A wild spark of life ignited within them. The monster’s true nature began to creep up, overcoming the lingering trauma of her subjugation from that morning.
Lilith approached the desk with a lethally graceful sway. Her hips swayed softly, radiating the pure charm of a seductive demon. She stopped right next to Ethan, tracing the edge of the mahogany wood with her fingertips.
"Hah... human chores really are torturous, My Lord," Lilith teased. Her voice was husky and coquettish, flowing to break the silence. "Mopping, washing dishes... my precious skin might get ruined if I keep working like a lowly slave."
Lilith leaned in. "Don’t you have any other tasks that are... a bit more interesting for me?"
Ethan didn’t respond immediately. His eyes didn’t shift a single inch from the stack of parchment in front of him.
"You are a slave," Ethan replied flatly. Cold and piercing.
Lilith chuckled softly. A melodious laugh that was both intoxicating and venomous. She brought her face closer.
"A slave who could slaughter a small town if you allowed it. It’s such a waste if you only use a weapon like me to sweep dust, isn’t it?"
Ethan set down his quill. Tap.
The movement was slow, yet it carried a bone-chilling finality. He rose from his leather chair.
Without warning, Ethan’s right hand shot out. He gripped Lilith’s jaw tightly, forcing the Succubus’s face up to look at him. His grip was dominant, rejecting any form of negotiation.
"You don’t have the right to choose your chores, Demon," Ethan hissed, his face merely inches from Lilith’s lips.
Instead of shrinking back, Lilith smiled. Her breath hitched softly, brushing against Ethan’s chin.
"I know. And honestly, I can’t stop trying to tempt you. It’s... addicting. Seeing just how long you can hold back."
Ethan didn’t bother replying with words.
He concentrated a sliver of Sin Mana into his fingertips. The dark energy pierced Lilith’s skin, resonating directly with the Lust Brand on the Succubus’s chest.
"Ghk—!"
Lilith gasped violently. A long moan escaped her lips as a wave of obedience—mixed with pain and ecstasy—hammered her mana circuits.
The demon’s knees instantly went weak. Ethan slowly lowered his grip, guiding Lilith down until the woman knelt helplessly on the wooden floor, right beneath his boots.
"Listen closely," Ethan commanded, staring down at Lilith who was panting for oxygen. "Go to the southern border. Baron Drel has an outpost there."
Ethan’s eyes narrowed sharply. "Kill everyone in your way. Level that outpost, then make them terrified."
Lilith’s golden-red pupils instantly dilated. Her breathing, previously heavy from the pressure, now raced with murderous ecstasy.
"Bring terror to their doorstep," Ethan continued, his voice as cold as the north wind. "Let them know... whose land they are stepping on."
Hearing the permission to slaughter, a sadistic smile bloomed on Lilith’s lips. She bowed deeply, pressing her forehead against the tip of Ethan’s boot.
"With absolute pleasure, My Lord."
Lilith rose. She turned around and walked out of the study with steps as light as the wind. Ethan’s dark brown eyes watched her from behind, until the wooden door closed tightly.
The backyard of the Valen estate was pitch black and freezing. Thick mist rolled down from the forest, blending with the falling snow.
Lilith stood in the middle of the yard. She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, tasting her first breath of freedom tonight. She had played house long enough in this cheap rag.
It was time to remind humanity the true meaning of terror.
A massive dark energy erupted from her core.
RIIIIP!
The black-and-white maid dress was blown to shreds, torn and carried away by the wild night wind. In its place, a dense black aura spewed from her pores, wrapping her pale body like a breathing gown of mist.
Her pink hair lengthened drastically until it touched her heels, fluttering wildly against the storm.
Her black nails tore through her own flesh, elongating into curved claws as sharp as daggers. When she opened her eyes, those golden-red irises burned bright like hellfire embers.
Flapping her wings, she hoisted herself up. Lilith hovered a few meters above the snow.
With a single thrust, the Succubus’s body shot forward like a black comet, cleaving through the air and piercing the mist straight toward the south.
At the southern border, atop the frozen expanse of wheat fields, stood Baron Drel’s guard outpost.
The outpost was nothing more than a rickety wooden structure surrounded by a makeshift barbed fence. There was a single watchtower and a small horse stable in the back. Only an ice-coated dirt path connected this place to civilization.
That night, five soldiers were assigned to guard duty. One was up in the tower, while the other four huddled shivering near a fire barrel.
"Damn it, by the God of Light, what kind of rations are these?!" cursed a scarred-faced captain. He smacked his wheat bread against the edge of the barrel. Clang! It rang out like he was hitting a rock. "Biting into this is the same as knocking out your own teeth!"
"Just enjoy it, Captain," another soldier chimed in, rubbing his hands near the fire. "At least we don’t have to fight. This land is empty. The Baron is just too paranoid."
The soldier snorted dismissively. "The demons in the Valen forest must have been completely wiped out by that madman."
In another corner, a young soldier hugged his spear tightly. His face was pale, his eyes constantly darting wildly outside the fence.
"B-but... I heard the people of Valen are worshipping demons now. What if they attack us tonight?"
"Don’t be stupid, kid," the captain chuckled, tossing the rest of his bread into the fire. "The people of Valen are starving rats. If they dare come here, I’ll decapitate their leader myself."
Up in the tower, the fifth soldier pulled his fur coat tighter. His eyes narrowed, staring at the distant forest.
"The mist is rolling in really fast tonight..." he muttered uneasily, watching the white curtain creep in, devouring the dirt path.
NNEEEIGHH!
An incredibly hysterical horse whinny shattered the silence, followed by the sound of hooves violently kicking the wooden stable walls.
The four soldiers below instinctively went quiet. Their hands immediately went to their sword hilts.
The scarred captain stood up. "Bring your torch, kid. Check the back. It’s probably just a starving snow wolf."
The young soldier swallowed hard. With trembling hands, he grabbed a torch and crept toward the stable.
The atmosphere suddenly fell dead silent. Even the sound of the wind seemed to die.
"Everything clear up top?!" the captain yelled toward the tower.
"The mist is too thick! I can’t see anything!" the watchman replied in a panicked tone.
Behind the outpost, the young soldier held his torch up high. The horses were bucking wildly, their eyes wide in horror, staring at the outpost’s roof.
The soldier slowly looked up.
From the shadows of the roof, a figure descended without making a single sound.
Before the soldier’s vocal cords could even form a scream, a pale hand clamped over his mouth from behind. Simultaneously, five black claws pierced through his back, tearing through his ribs and crushing his heart directly.
The young soldier died before his brain could even process the pain.
In the front yard, the captain frowned. "Hey, kid! You alright over there?!"
Silence.
A bad premonition choked their throats. The captain and one other soldier drew their steel swords, walking slowly toward the corner of the building.
As soon as they turned the corner, the young soldier’s torch was lying in the snow. Its flame hissed as it died out. However, his body was gone.
"W-what happened..." whispered the soldier next to the captain, his knees starting to shake.
TAP.
A soft footstep landed on the ridge of the wooden roof.
They looked up. Up there, shrouded by the night mist, stood Lilith. A dense black aura flared savagely around her. Her golden-red eyes glowed, staring down at them with the smile of a grim reaper.
"DEMON!!"
The scream broke out, but it was too late. Lilith dove down as fast as black lightning.
The captain raised his sword, but Lilith’s claws cleaved through space much faster.
SLASH!
The captain’s neck was torn wide open. Blood sprayed heavily, dying the snow a deep crimson. His large body collapsed instantly.
The second soldier screamed hysterically. He thrust his sword toward Lilith’s stomach.
However, Lilith merely raised her bare hand. She caught the steel blade, squeezed it hard, and the sword shattered to pieces like thin glass.
Before the soldier could even draw a breath, Lilith’s claws plunged into his stomach. His life energy was sucked out frantically. The grown man shriveled up, drying into a living mummy in a matter of seconds, before being casually tossed to the ground.
Up in the tower, the watchman nearly lost his sanity. He threw his spear away, running down the wooden stairs for his life.
But the moment his feet touched the ground, a tendril of black aura wrapped around his neck from behind. The tendril jerked violently. CRACK! His neck snapped instantly.
Only one soldier was left in the courtyard.
The man sobbed uncontrollably. He dropped his sword, turned around, and ran as fast as his legs could carry him into the darkness of the dirt path. He screamed wildly for help.
Lilith hovered casually in the air. Her glowing eyes held not a single intention of chasing down that final prey.
One rat had to be left alive to deliver the message.
Nearly half an hour passed as the Succubus amused herself with her prey. Once satisfied, Lilith slowly released her victim’s body and lifted her face, as if suddenly recalling something much more interesting.
Her gaze now shifted to the hill in the distance. The torchlight from Baron Drel’s estate flickered amidst the darkness. Her sadistic smirk bloomed once again.
"OPEN THE GATES!! FOR GOD’S SAKE, OPEN THE GATES!!"
The escaped soldier slammed his fists against the giant wooden gates of Baron Hadrick Drel’s estate. His breaths came in ragged gasps. His face was as pale as cotton, drenched in tears and cold sweat.
Two guards on top of the wall hastily shone their torches down.
"Hey! You’re from the southern outpost! What happened?!"
"DEMON! A DEMON BUTCHERED ALL OF THEM! OPEN THE GATES!"
Panic immediately proved contagious. The lever was pulled, and the gates opened slightly. The soldier tumbled inside, fell to his knees, and vomited violently due to a mental shock that nearly shattered his brain.
An old adjutant ran out from the terrace. "Calm yourself, Soldier! What happened?!" he snapped, grabbing the man by the collar.
"D-destroyed... our outpost is destroyed, Sir!" he sobbed hysterically. "A demon woman... her eyes were glowing! She ripped out the captain’s throat and dried my friend’s body to dust!"
The old adjutant’s heart seemingly stopped beating. He let go of his grip, turned around, and ran madly up the stone stairs toward the Baron’s master bedroom.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
"Lord Baron! Wake up, Lord Baron! It’s an emergency!!"
Inside the lavish bedroom, Baron Hadrick Drel jolted awake. The plump man with a thin mustache snatched the decorative sword beside his bed with violently trembling hands.
Mirella, his wife, pulled the blanket up in a panic. "W-what’s going on, Hadrick?!"
Baron Drel threw the door open, staring at his panting adjutant. "What’s with all this yelling in the middle of the night?!"
"A demon, My Lord! The southern outpost was completely massacred by a demon! The creature is heading toward our estate!"
The sword in Drel’s hand nearly slipped. "I-impossible! Intelligence said the monsters there had been cleared out!"
From the next room, the sound of crying could be heard. Lucas, their ten-year-old son, ran out and hugged his mother’s waist in terror.
"This is all your fault, Hadrick!" Mirella screamed hysterically. "I told you not to touch Valen territory! You lured a curse upon this house!"
"SHUT YOUR MOUTH, BITCH!" Drel snapped shrilly, his fear mutating into cowardly anger. He turned to his adjutant. "Gather all the soldiers! Bring them to the front gates! Archers, spearmen, everyone!"
Drel shoved his wife roughly. "Take Lucas to the basement! Lock the door!"
Accompanied by sobs, Mirella dragged her son down the stairs.
Meanwhile, Baron Drel stumbled forward, his nightshirt drenched in cold sweat. He dragged his feet toward the balcony that directly overlooked the front gates.
The courtyard of the Drel estate had turned into a barricade of panic.
Dozens of soldiers lined up behind the gates and atop the stone walls. Torches were lit. Bows were drawn, spears raised. However, there was zero morale. Their hands shook, their eyes darted wildly in horror.
From up on the balcony, Baron Drel gripped the stone railing. His eyes bulged out, staring into the darkness beyond.
Suddenly, the mist from the forest moved unnaturally. Instead of being blown by the wind, it crept forward rapidly, swallowing the fields in front of the gates with a dense thickness. The temperature plummeted instantly, freezing the soldiers’ breaths.
Then, from the center of the rolling mist... a silhouette emerged.
Lilith did not tread on the earth. Her body hovered on graceful wings. A black aura wrapped around her like a dress. Her pink hair fluttered wildly. As the mist thinned, those golden-red eyes glowed, staring directly at the dozens of soldiers who were nearly wetting their pants.
Several archers on the wall instinctively stepped back. Their weapons clattered, nearly falling from their stiff grips.
From the air, Lilith tilted her head. Her black nails gleamed, reflecting the torchlight. She curled an enchanting smile... one that promised the most brutal of slaughters.
Up on the balcony, Baron Hadrick Drel’s legs gave out. He fell onto his backside. His sword slipped and clattered against the stone floor.
Tonight, no god would hear their prayers.
